Can't believe how many healthy people on here... although most are a lot younger than me.
As you get older lots of the exercises are out due to physical limitations (bad knees etc).
I really need to lose weight but find it hard as I enjoy my (many) beers and the lifestyle I lead too much.
Why can't beer be slimming?
Good luck to the rest of you.

As I've said before in this thread.
Everything that is good for you is stuff we already know and has been drilled into us since we were born.

Keep drinking your beers and you'll get nowhere.
Being healthy takes discipline just like anything.
Discipline takes sacrifice.

You won't achieve your goals if you don't make sacrifice.

I refuse to put anything I know is knowingly bad for me in my body. I don't smoke ice...cos it's bad so why would I pollute my liver with alcohol.

Statements like this make me shake my head.
You enjoy a beer after a hard day's work eh?
Shaving the days off your life with every can or bottle you sink.

A funny/not so funny story.
There was a fellow who rode his bike every day in the Top End tropical heat to and from work, about 11 km each way.
One day a friend (and notable pisshead) gave me a lift home from work. We passed this guy on the way. My mate said, as we passed; "I'd rather die young".
Anyway the bike bloke died of a heart attack, on his bike, on the way home one afternoon.
Live your life the way you want to live it. Nobody gets out of here alive.

Wouldn’t have been many people fitter than Steve Folkes.

To be honest I’d rather keep drinking and die a few years earlier than be bored to death at a gym.
I just need to lose some weight.... don’t want to be a fitness freak.
According to doctors you take about 15 -30 minutes off your life with each drink.
If that was true I would have died in 1637.

You gotta make your workouts fun.
Then you won't be "bored to death".

Consistency is key.
Anyone can set a new years resolution or say "I wanna lose weight" it takes some guts like GNR has to get up off the couch and take the first step.

Drinking beers whilst u talk about how u wanna lose weight.... okayyyyyyy.

Anyway I'm looking to step things up in 2k20 and take my diet and training to new levels to reach some goals.
I really encourage everyone who reads this who's been wanting to become healthier like GNR said in his original post.
The time is now.

Put the beer down and pick up a bottle of water.
Put down the Xbox controller or whatever else you wasting your time with.
Get outside or get in the gym.

Most walking tracks have a workout station, dip bar, chin up bar, etc.
Make this your daily, weekly bar visit.

Hit the legs, hit the bag, hit the chin ups, hit the gym... just don't hit the snooze button and waste your time, days, life being weak. Look yourself in the mirror and ask yourself am I soft? Or am I man? And put the work in. For your kids, your partner, your family and most importantly yourself.

Swimming is best exercise imo..... easy to do... and if u do laps for about 50min u have can burn 500+ calories.....

Does excersing in the heat make a difference? Easier to work up a sweat obviously

Yeah ...but you have to put it back in the fluids ...in my job I can easily 2-2.5 kgs in 11-12 hours of work

But just remember we are all different ....for example I don't sweat out enough salts so my fluid intake gets up to around 4-5 litres a day

What a load of crap. This sounds like the old, kick the sand in your face, are you a man or a mouse rubbish. There are many, many other ways to get exercise than in a gym. Personally the thought of a sweat stenched exercise environment would be enough for me to run several miles.
Which in fact I used to do, run ultramarathon.
Now I choose to drink beer (in moderation of course).
Attending a Gym is the least imaginative way to get exercise. If that is all you can access then do that, but there are heaps of better options. Outdoors in the environment is best if you can do it.

You're correct.
I stated in the post there is walking tracks and outdoor workout stations.

What are u even disagreeing with actually haha...

Get outside and get the body moving.
Gym isn't for everyone but we all should put the work in and if it isn't lifting weights it's whatever works for you.

Your post upsets me mate.
It sounds like you have A LOT to live for.

Get your health together for the sake of your family and yourself.
Read the posts in this thread and apply them to your life. By the sound of it you'll save a lot of money by eating cleaner and healthier too.

There is healthy pizza recipes out there.
Moderation is the go.
Watch your portion sizings.

But without offending ya, throw some tuna in a bowl of salad. It'll save ya life.

So much good advice here people!!!!

My problem was I was trying to eat my anxiety away...I felt bad I ate and I found that I was eating way too much and blowing my weight out.
I've been to heaps of gyms because I can't train for the sake of it, I need a goal to really hit the targets. If I had to choose though I would choose boxing as it's such a good workout and there's a weird type of zen when you hit the focus pads. So I signed up for a boxing fight night called zero to hero. It was a 12 week thing and I absolutely belted myself with diet and exercise because the goal was to get in the boxing ring in front of what ended up being a thousand people and having a sanctioned amateur fight.
Give yourself a goal. Not a lose 15 kilos by easter type goal, but something you want to do like run a marathon or have an amateur fight, and get out of your comfort zone if you can. It will do wonders.

My goal has been to try and up the amount I run each day. To come home spent. No point doing it if you don’t get your heart rate going and work up a decent sweat.

Next year's City to Surf.... You got 10 months... Piece of piss

All sounds wonderful Demps but I would guess I’m at least 30 years older than you.
My kids are long grown up and I don’t have a regular partner.
Am I soft or a man?
Depends on your take.
I’ve brought up 4 kids and I still manage to have good looking women more than 20 years younger than me want to go out with me. I can still manage to put away more than 20 schooners in a session regularly while young blokes can’t keep up the pace.
I’m still the life of the party... just want to lose a few kgs, not change my entire life.
Good luck to you blokes who love exercise ... I love the nightlife.

Demps went hard on JD earlier I should have gone into bat earlier. Not everyone is cut from the same cloth brother, diabetes isn't a joke, I appreciate your tips & overall energy but you're dealing with people with a range of health issues; mature age, genetics, BMI, mental/vascular health, addicts etc. To each there own. Nobody is trying to die young

Yeah man i was just shocked with some statements from a grown man.
Health is no joke. We must take it serious or face the consequence.
No offense to that guy, he needed to hear the truth I think...

As I've said before I've always got an ear for anyone who needs a chat so I hope JD does what he needs to do. No disrespect to him.

Okay legend.

Don’t worry Demps ... you’ve still got time.
You’ll need a good personality and some charisma.
Here’s a tip, don’t take life too seriously.
Carrying on like the Jehovas Witness of exercise won’t get you there.
I don’t have a problem with anyone wanting to get/keep fit.... but if one of your joys is looking forward to doing a chin up every day it may lead to a healthy life , but a bloody boring one.

???
Okay legend.

Don’t worry Demps ... you’ve still got time.
You’ll need a good personality and some charisma.
Here’s a tip, don’t take life too seriously.
Carrying on like the Jehovas Witness of exercise won’t get you there.
I don’t have a problem with anyone wanting to get/keep fit.... but if one of your joys is looking forward to doing a chin up every day it may lead to a healthy life , but a bloody boring one.

All subjective really isn't it....

I could say the same about getting wasted at the pub imagining every lady there wants to sleep with me.

At the end of the day some people value their health and take fitness serious and then there's the other guys sitting on the stool with beer guts telling themselves they'll start making healthy choices the next day and the next day until it's too late.

Difference is I don’t ‘imagine’ things or think every woman wants to jump in the cot with me.
Or think that every woman (and man) thinks I’m a wonderful specimen and yearn to be like me because I’m a workout junkie.
All subjective really isn’t it...

I'll have what he's having 🤣🤣🤣

Are these women looking good before or after you've put away the 20 schooners?
