It was reported earlier that RA did not include any special conditions into Folou’s last contract that he signed, even after similar comments he had made. RA then had another contract with amendments given to him but his manager advised him not to sign it.

This alone tells me that RA thought that the signed contract wasn’t appropriate enough to sack him if he kept up his actions.

This thought that RA are fine because they would have done due diligence is a nonsense. Even their independent panel reviewing Folou’s contract and RA’s position in regards to further court action took weeks to come out in favour of RA. This tells me that it isn’t concrete in RA favour at all.

I always use the Lindy Chamberlain case in assessing court judgements. Both sides used experienced and well qualified experts to attest under oath that the evidence provided the cause of death - the dingo or Lindy. The court went with prosecution experts. How did that end up?

@Tigerdave help us understand please mate. Folau said he wasn’t told. It wasn’t in his new contract- signed after he was supposedly told.

Remind me- who told him?

@hsvjones when did Para’s membership numbers surge?
When they got done for cheating

When did Tiges membership surge?
When we were all through the press for Cleary dogging us

Which opening round of the season had the largest audience?
This year!

Any press is good press in Rugby League. We welcome wife beaters, fight over drug users and ex-felons.

Folau would be a PR victory. His first 3 games would pay his first year contract through extra ticket sales.

I found some alternate reporting / commentary on the Folau situation. I found it helpful. I note it is the opposite message run by our media elite.
....
“Israel Folau has today been accused of greed, playing the victim, and being in a conflict of his own making.

All three accusations are false.

(1) There is no "greed"

The money is being deposited straight into a trust account. It cannot be used for anything other than defraying his legal expenses.

Leftover funds will be distributed - likely to a philanthropic cause consistent with the intent of the orginal donors.

If he was in this for money, he would have taken the millions of $ he was offered to simply delete the post.

Regarding his accumulated assets, he may have to live off those for a long time.

(2) Izzy did not manufacture this situation on purpose.

There was never a contractual or verbal agreement around social media use, despite claims in the media.

The clause of the Code of Conduct invoked against him was the nebulous notion of "bringing the game into disrepute."

His social media content was consistent for some time. Christian, scriptural, themes of repentance etc. The post was business as usual (except the word "homosexual").

(3) Highlighting the injustice of the case, and its importance to basic freedoms, is not playing the victim.

It is unjust, and it threatens to set a precedent which could bring about the same injustice upon many employees, professionals, and others in the Australian community.

He did no wrong, but he is being punished as a wrongdoer.

That's not "playing the victim" - it's just explaining the situation as it is.”
.....
It’s makes you think... surely if it was about the money he would of just deleted the post... seems quite obvious, and yet the press didn’t mention it once, nor find a single person to quote arguing the case for him. So much for balanced reporting.

Where was this " alternate reporting " found. Knowing who put forward this view would be helpful in assessing its validity. As for the fund me - its greed pure and simple whether he keeps the money or not. Folau has means to fund his own legal challenge but wants others to pay for it so he isn't out of pocket.

Oh please! How is Folau's Go Fund Me page affecting anyone else's that is up there? The amounts on their pages would be the same regardless of if Folau had a page or not. And how is it his fault if people have chosen to give over 600k to his cause? There are Go Fund Me pages for all sorts of things, people are allowed to have them and donors can give to whichever one they choose to.

Bloody media beat up if ever I've seen one! I'm sorry but the anger should be directed at this unscrupulous media, who are simply using these poor families as pawns in their ongoing agenda to crucify a guy for having an opinion that they don't like.

If he signed it, one would think he read it.....but he's a believer though....so he probably didn't read the entire thing

Suffice to say, this wasn't the first time he's caused a stir, so he should have known.

Hey! Spud, I have to say, I’m quite capable of forming my own opinion just like you obviously have.

@Tigerlily I don't fully understand Mitchell's post. I don't think Folau ever stated that he deserves donations more than these children do. He's asking for donations for something unrelated entirely. Sure, he didn't choose to promote these children in need but for Mitchell to imply that he's picked his own needs over them, who he may well have never heard of, is illogical. Getting angry at Folau the way he has is adjusting himself to whatever standard Israel is at.

The sooner people ignore Folau the less powerful his message becomes. If we got upset in the manner the media has now at every person with extreme or irrational views then we wouldn't be able to walk 50m in Sydney CBD without taking exception to something one of the crazy homeless person said or did.

to be honest this has only raised more awareness to others in more need. Ive never even looked at gofundme and now ive donated to the others in more health need.

@Tigerdave If I told you Folau’s contract does not have a social media clause as claimed by Raylene Castle would it impact your opinion?

How about that the clause they sent after the contract was signed, asking for an amendment was rejected by Folau.

Folau’s views are contrary to the sponsors of ARU. They are contrary to many peoples views hence the argument that he can be terminated for “bringing the game into disrepute”

So if a political or religious view is contrary to those in power you can lose your job for rudely and offensively expressing it?

Sounds like Russia to me.

Once we all start barracking for freedom police to start monitoring who is offending who we know we have become a generation that has forgotten what losing freedom feels like.

Anyone on instagram could just unfollow Folau or instead we could start making a list of what topics offend people and then make sure those people can never talk in public again.

Seriously... press the unfollow button for goodness sake!

@Mccarry

As I stated, even if for some reason it doesn't, he's been told before as this is not his first time that he's done this.

"So if a political or religious view is contrary to those in power you can lose your job for rudely and offensively expressing it?"

If those views are deemed detrimental to someone's business and the business owners think it would be then it's up to them isn't it? or are they not allowed to look after their business's best interests?

If someone verbally threatens another persons life.............are you going to stand up for their "freedom of speech" rights? Yet those words could be deemed a criminal offence. If your a believer wouldn't telling someone they are going to hell be deemed as a threat? His words could also embolden others, not only to say more, but potentially do more. Swearing in public is a fine, haven't seen much in the way of "protests" against that, but people are happily giving money to a millionaire

In any event it has nothing to do with the Government. This was his employer's decision, the "Sounds like Russia to me." wouldn't exactly apply.

Freedom of speech, which isn't in our constitution btw, doesn't mean you're free from the consequences of said speech. The employer apparently, at the very least, has verbally told him and written letters to him advising to stop those posts in the past. He's supposedly received plenty of warnings before hand.

FREE FOLAU :fist: 😛ray:

He is free. No longer has training or playing commitments and can do as he pleases. The problem is that he still expects a 7 figure income for that role.
