I read Rebecca Wilson's article in yesterday's Courier Mail in regards to the Footy Show and more importantly Fatty Vautin

Wilson said in the article that Matty Johns had been offerred a co hosting role with Vautin but had been decided to knock it back as he would have no say in the direction of the show

On a personal note I honestly can 't see the show going on past this season with the current format and especially with Vautin as host

They have bought Pallister back to be in charge again but I can't even see him saving the show

Is Wilson correct in her assumption or is this a case of sour grapes as Vautin has had a shot at her in the past or is the show on its last legs ??

Before someone thinks this is Manly hate thing Vautin is a Brisbane Wests's old boy and Happy will never forget the 80 metre try he scored against Valley's in the knockout semi in 78

Footy show does suck but Mat Johns would only make it worse. Surely some saw his pathetic attempt on 7?
 
She's hardly an unbiased source. She clearly dislikes Vautin and vice versa. The show survives for a few reasons one of which is it balances having an AFL version (by that I mean 9 in Sydney doesn't have to put on shows they aren't showing nationally.) So long as it makes money 9 will keep it going - most of the people on the show are salaried workers who do other shows as well so cutting it wouldn't save much money of wages anyway.
 
I'm glad someone made a thread about this. With the Footy Show you know what you're going to get. 90% crap and 5 minutes of serious football talk at the end with the panels tips. If you're after a fair dinkum football show that talks about the game and players and focuses solely on the game then tune into NRL on Fox, Andrew Moore's show on One on Thursdays or Ricky Stuarts on a monday (I've had a brain melt and can't remember what they're called).

Some people really enjoy the crap they carry on with on the footy show and these aren't necessarily diehard league fans. Personally I only watch it if I know there's going to be a heavy emphasis on the tigers and usually just watch Beau Knows on youtube later in the week.
In the end its pretty simple, if you like it watch it, if you don't turn it off.
I do believe that in the current format the show is on its last legs and can't see it going on longer than 2-3 seasons.

Actually this story was all over the front page of the DT on Wednesday, well before Wilson got hold of it. Some supposed big rift between the two and Johns not wanting to work with Vautin because it would be the same old crap with no new ideas. John Singleton was particularly critical of Vautin in this article - he was quoted calling him a very average player, average coach and average TV show host, who has had a lot of luck :laughing: Probably true, but I'm with you, Stryker, Johns would only make it worse. I've never been a big fan of Vautin, but I don't know where Johns gets off thinking he could do so much better. He's a massive tool, imo - I can't stand even looking at him.
 
Totally agree Fraze… Even the Sunday Footy show and Sunday Roast are a lot more footy based.

Even the Thursday Footy Show has some decent interviews sometimes. I'm not a diehard fan but it is not a bad Thursday night show and when I see it come on I know Friday is just around the corner!
 
The worst thing about Johns is that he is a good analyst of the game, but would prefer to stick to sketch comedy on League shows.

Put him in a suit and get him to talk 60 mins of football on a panel and it will sell. I sincerely hope Fox doesn't sign him on for his comedic pursuits.

Footy show still rates and will be on television as long as it does.
 
footy Show is a blight on our great Game, Vautin is without the worst thing on TV, He has ZERO redeeming virtues and his role as a figure head is evident.

I dont understand the reason channel 9 hangs on to him as it is clear to all that he must get to the studio 10 mins before going to air,

I cant stand him, There's few I dont like on this planet.

Gould Good, Sterlo Good, Matt and Joey johns are good when their not looking to be clowns.

Thats a good point Spartan when Joey and Matt talk footy and not like fools I love listening to them When Joey and Fittler talk the junk that they talk especially through a coverage I wish I could get Granstand Live and listen to David Morrow , Warren Ryan and the team

Johns talks openly about the approach from Nine and his thoughts on a new footy show format. Interestingly CB, he would like to get away from the sketch comedy when discussing a new format:

The night Bourbon Beccy Wilson went on the footy show was the day it jumped the shark. It's still good for light hearted entertainment, but it's basically living off it's past rep when it was actually decent. When Sterlo and MJ left the show it really dropped off. However even if they axed Vautin and brought MJ back the show wouldn't be more than it is now. If you tune in expecting amazing comedy or intense football analysis you will be disappointed, if you take it for what it is, it isn't too bad.
 
I've never found Matt Johns funny. Both Johns brothers talk out of their nose. Joey can barely string his words together. Great player, horrible commentator. I'll never watch 1 minute of the footy show again as long as Fatty is host. I think the show should be hosted by Sterlo alongside Gus. But serious Gus, not the nausiating 'EXPLAIN IT TO ME RABS, EXPLAIN IT TO ME' Gus. The only problem is, i don't know who else could be added to the panel who could make it watchable. IMO, i think there is a serious lack of talent when it comes to league commentators. The majority of them are all a combination of annoying, unfunny untalented in front of the camera and clueless. Thats including Fox who probably have the worst. Tallis, Belcher, Freeman, Raymond and Daley. for some reason channel 9 and fox appoint guys on their playing ability, not how good they are in front of a camera. You watch AFL and Union and they all have guys who are good in front of the camera, not league. As a league fan i find it embarressing that we have meatheads like Gordon Tallis representing our game
 
Don't mind the footy show.
The sunday footy shows are good but I never get to see em.
 
I watched it for the most part last year, first time in years actually that I've done that. I would like to see more league content though.

According to the Tele he has a big following up in QLD and that is the sole reason he is kept on as host.
 
i like the footy show. a bit of light entertainment on a thursday night. there are plenty of other shows (eg sunday footy show, roast, + the shows on one and fox) that you can watch for serious footy talk. id rather keep the footy show as in then listen to the exact same discussions that theyve had an hr earlier on the game plan. and if you dont like it, dont watch it…

Don't blame us Dave :laughing: I think a lot of people I know up here would prefer a new hosts Sterlo perhaps or Matt Johns

I reckon the hosts needs to have a decent analytical football brain which Vautin sure as hell doesn't have
 
I enjoy the footy show for what it is - a variety show with a rugby league flavour.

They are not a rugby league analysis show - never has been. Plenty of people complain about that fact, however the show continues to rate well enough to justify its place. Ratings are declining yes, however it is at Thursday 9:30pm - and the competition on other networks is thin.

No doubt it would rate better if they talked more footy. But at the end of the day if 9 wanted it that way they would have made a change a long time ago.
