OFFICIAL Harold Matthews Cup

Serious question . Is the high Lebanese background in this team because the coach is Lebanese ?
No disrespect , but in a sport that is dominated by bigger stronger faster , this seems counter intuitive to the recruitment strategies other teams ie. a high Polynesian/ massive human recuitment strategy .
I’ve seen the comments on the “small” state of the team , and the only reason I can see why is nepotism .
Absolutely it appears that way.

There's no way that all of a sudden 2/3 of the side is Lebanese. With rumours that players were selected on who they knew rather than talent, much to the dismay of other youngsters, it appears that's true based on how terrible the Balmain sides are.

An easy win for Wests, 38-0. Balmain could barely hold the ball and when they did they looked extremely pedestrian. Makasini, Large, and most of the forwards were good for Wests. Very small wingers though who were totally ineffective.
Wests too big, fast and skillful, solid but unspectacular win for them

Any news of Onitoni Large MIA the past 2 weeks? Rah Rah duties?

Nepotism kills junior football and it is terrible if Balmain now has this problem.

I spoke to Shannon Gallant on the weekend, he confirmed Onitoni will definitely miss the rest of the matts season. They're obviously not going to push him but he's a big part of future planning.
He was very confident about keeping Makasini though acknowledge that the vultures will be circling as he keeps performing well. He's one we really need to secure, we don't have many backs with xfactor. Size, power, pace. Kicks goals. That real Crichton vibes. Galant feels working through the mateship of local boys and working with their families that we'll get it done though

Nice info BB. Thanks for sharing.
When does the Mats season finish about April? So does that mean his injury will only take till then or well beyond that? What’s the injury again.

I'd say he's out for a few months at least. Will be interesting to see if/when he plays for his school later in the year

great news on Makasini. hopefully we see something official in the next few weeks / months. I’d have him on development the second he finishes school and Top 30 the year after.

He’ll get more games in this year then or is this year’s development a write off?

Shame that Onitoni will miss the rest of the season. Glad they won't rush him back in though and let him fully recover.

Sounds promising on the Makasini front. Hoping to hear about an official contract in the not too distant future.

Given Balmain's struggles in both grades, we had apparently signed a couple of top youngsters from Newcastle Charlie Jones, a half-5/8 and Harrison Aeokie who's pushing 190cm at 17.
Any Newcastle region peeps who've heard anything about these boys? Wonder if they're still in Balmain. Surely if they were they would have been given a run given the sides struggles this season
