Harry interested in buying Wests Tigers

history is great but seriously, money like this could set us up forever.

we really have no identity and this is something that could give us one.

Be careful what you wish for.

Just ask Newcastle.

Don't think Uncle Harry will be going broke anytime soon. Tinkler was a loose cannon with his money and his investment in Horse Racing didn't go as planned. Harry is a much more astute business man.

This isnt a case for or against Wests Ashfield or Harry T… more so that Wests Ashfield isnt a shrinking violet in all of this. The place runs on a business model to funnel its clear profits into football, has no projected end to its ability to sustain the capitol required, as well as the added security of an entity protected against human mortality.

Food for thought for those thinking they arent up to it, nor invested enough in our success or longevity.

Further, Wests Campbelltown will have a role to play.

**Balmain welcomes Harry Triguboff's bid to buy Wests Tigers**
Date August 13, 2015
Adrian Proszenko

Balmain has welcomed the prospect of Meriton magnate Harry Triguboff privatising Wests Tigers, believing it could provide a lifeline for the foundation club to remain in the partnership.

Fairfax Media revealed Triguboff, a long-term club sponsor considered one of the world's wealthiest businessmen, is considering buying the Tigers. Triguboff has a strong connection to Balmain but has made it clear he will only buy in if he is capable of owning the entire NRL franchise.

"Their problem is the Balmain part is broke. But Balmain part is me," Triguboff said.

"That's the way it is. I'm very close to them, to the old part. I hope if I can stay I will keep the old supporters still involved. That's my plan."

Advertisement The timing couldn't be any better for Balmain, which is on the cusp of forfeiting its place in Wests Tigers. The NRL has loaned Balmain the outstanding monies owing to the joint-venture club, with March 31 looming as the deadline for its next funding contribution. If the foundation club remains an unfinancial shareholder beyond then, its stake is up for sale.

Balmain chairman Dr Leslie Glenn said he was "heartened" by Triguboff's interest.

"We are very open to any discussion with Meriton," Glenn said.

"We have a flexible attitude to whoever can assist us in being a partner in the joint-venture outfit. We would consider any number of proposals that would allow us to keep faith with our supporters and history.

"We would be prepared to consider any reasonable offer that gave us long-term security. There's no uncertainty about it, if we don't repay the debt to the NRL they will see us off and put that 50 per cent share up for sale."

Friday also looms as a key day in Balmain's future, with Balmain Leagues Club scheduled to submit to Leichhardt Council a new development application for the dilapidated Victoria Road site at Rozelle. The proposal will include a new 3600 square metre clubs space to return the Tigers home with a bar, lounge, dining and entertainment areas.

"The developer has gone back to the master plan of 2008 and assured us the proposal will be within the boundaries agreed between the Balmain club and council," Dr Glenn said.

Meriton will remain plastered on the Wests Tigers jerseys until the end of the year before a new sponsor is unveiled for season 2016\. But rather than scaling back his interest in Wests Tigers, Triguboff is keen to become more involved. It's understood Balmain had previously offered Triguboff one of their two board seats should he bail them out of financial strife, but the self-made billionaire won't be content with a bit part in Wests Tigers.

"I've never been a partner with anyone and I won't be a partner with this. This I guarantee you," Triguboff said.

While Balmain is on the verge of extinction, Wests Ashfield have had no issues in meeting their funding obligations.

Dr Glenn is hopeful that the Tigers' association with Triguboff will continue well into the future.

"We've got a very long relationship with Harry that started well before the joint venture came around," Dr Glenn said.

"We were very happy Harry continued into the Wests Tigers days and shared the pleasure of the 2005 premiership."

Tigers chairwoman Marina Go and Wests Ashfield declined to comment.

The Tigers have a chance to move further away from the wooden spoon when they host Newcastle on Saturday.

The only concern I have with privatisation is what happens in the NFL when franchises would just up & relocate. Private ownership would be invaluable for an investor if a team was open to relocation it would become a bidding war.

So long as your name doesn't start with a "W" and end in "sts"….

Harry has been a great supporter of WTs and his passion for the Tigers is outstanding. However, this thread is permeated with negativity from those who obviously supported Wests which fills me with dismay. There is a realisation things can never change until attitudes. change.

Thanks Harry for your interest in WTs and Balmain.

It's a shame HT won't put his money into saving Balmain Tigers. That way the club stays alive and the Wests Tigers board can go back to the model agreed on twelve months ago. That is 3 NRL, 2 Balmain and 2 Magpies. That way the JV partners can always Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon anything the NRL wants to do if it wasn't in the best interest of Wests Tigers.
If Harry decides he does want full ownership and is willing to get it at any price, the board will need to carefully consider safeguarding the club if ever he decided to pull out for whatever reason. We can't place the club into one mans hands and trust that everything will be safe and secure forever and ever amen without having a back up plan if something goes wrong.

Will be interesting to see if he comes on board whether through TPA's or ownership if supporters will question our "creative accountants" like they do now with the richer clubs when managing the cap. Or will it be okay when it's us.

Why would he want to come on board through TPAs? He wants a say in how his money his spent and providing TPAs does in no way provide him with control of how the club is run.

Really? So you have no issue with this comment by Harry:

To me, I don't think Harry's attitude has changed to meet that of the new board. As clear as day, Harry's plan is to "keep the old supporters involved."

Is that what Wests Tigers need?

Absolutely, as he stated he wants full control and if it can't be met? Well we are the losers then and we will continue to fail to attract Marquee players and always be a step or 2 behind the elite Clubs.

How many Marquee players have Clubs like the Roosters, Bulldogs, Rabbits have ? the reason they have them is through Sponsorship obviously cause everyone keeps doubting how they are under the Cap.

Gary,I think Harry wants to keep the old Balmain supporters involved, only because WESTS Tigers were formed by the Union of Balmain and WESTS…this is what the JV is all about...
I honestly don't think its a "we against them" scenario...you must remember HT was a passionate Balmain supporter and now a passionate WTs supporter and wants to help where he can....just my thoughts ...cheers GB....

I have no issue at all, in fact I welcome it. A billionaire takes an interest in our club and wants a say in how his money is spent? How outrageous!

Well he's a supporter isn't he? Didn't he say he doesn't like supporting a team coming last? So why hasn't put TPA's forward in the past. If he truly loved the club and wants them off the bottom of the table, then why isn't that an option if Wests don't want sell? Again, it tells me that he's only made this statement because he knows the club isn't for sale, but he can get his name in the paper anyway and make himself look like a hero to the supporters. Just like the grub mayor announcing they were behind the re-development when they clearly weren't.
