Chammas saying on inside the NRL, not sure on exact figure but would be in the $400k-$500k bracket.

Sowards opinion is Jackson coming to play in the halves and he (Soward) wouldn't be moving AD from 5/8.

If those numbers are accurate this is an intense failure of a signing. Disgusting numbers honestly. Jackson Hastings has never been an NRL starter and has done nothing to indicate he should be on that type of money. I have no real argument to suggest that he would produce any greater than Billy Walters, Jock Madden or even Zach Docker-Clay honestly. That has to be made up surely. I would value him half that. Unless they're saying $400-500k on two years with a team option.

The man of steel won't come here to get paid $200k.... halfbacks are at a premium too. $400k seems about right, we've got plenty of cap space it'll be a short deal don't stress about it

There are so many factors to consider and one that is far more important than people realise is what continuing to make signings like this says about our club. If we keep picking up players with bad reputations who are unwanted elsewhere or players who are perceived that way perception becomes reality and it just affirms what people think about us.

Just wait, once this signing is made it won't be "Tigers land coup signing star from ESL" it will be "Desperate Tigers throw NRL lifeline to outcast badboy". And no matter what anyone thinks that stuff affects us at every level. Then the pressure is on Jackson to prove that wrong because if he is even remotely unsuccessful it'll be mocked relentlessly much like our signing of BJ Leilua or James Roberts is being. And it all contributes to all and sundry from the media, to fans, to other players considering our club a desperate joke.

This to me was the post of the day. Apparently we were frontrunners for his signature. More like we were the only runners for his signature. That some of our supporters seems satisfied with his signature is a good indication of how low expectations are at WTs. We need NRL signings of far higher standard than Hastings. The number of squaddies on the forum yesterday morning to monitor the reaction and the PR promotion accompanying the signing is an indication to me of how nervous some in the WTs are about Hastings. Based on his history, that is warranted.

Look at the ladder! the supporters you say have low expectations are the ones that have had a gut full of the loser mentality that is this organisation ..this is a left field signing a signing that actually puts pressure on some to perform that is a good thing .

It as simple as that.

Every player in the team should be under pressure to hold their form and do their job. The club felt we didnt have someone to do that to Luke Brooks, enter Hastings.

Might be the making of Luke Brooks.

The acceptance of this signing only serves to perpetuate the lower bar we have in place for NRL signings at WTs

Interesting that Brooks has been playing well but you choose to ignore it.

Everyone thinking this is going to somehow going to put a rocket up Brooks, as if Brooks is just lazy. He’s not lazy, he’s just not capable of going to the next level. He’s not hiding anything we haven’t already seen.

Does he offer much more than Adam Reynolds?
Nothing in the highlights reel to get fans excited.
The comments from Wigan said he has a good attitude and is enthusiastic.
Is this a minimum wage, mid range or top dollar signing?

Some are more interested in watching us lose as long as it's their favourite players.

Jackson is a quality player. Sure he has been playing ESL which is a step below NRL but he has he has been craving it up. He has clearly grown as a person and has a better attitude these days. I wouldn’t hire myself based on how I acted when I was 17 or 18. The club has been sensible and only offered a 2 year deal. It’s not a game breaking signing but it is a decent signing with some thought behind it. Personally I think he’ll add a lot to the team. We are a lower end of the table club with a bad reputation we are not going to be signing Australian or State of Origin representatives.

Quality players either from our lower grades or externally from other NRL clubs will improve our performance.

Not arguing against it, just curious what has changed in the two years he has been gone. Two years ago no CEO of any club, ANY CLUB, would touch him with a 10 foot pole as he was considered damaged goods. The fact that we will be his 6th club in eight seasons kind of backs that up.
I'm all for giving a bloke a second chance, but are we now "the last chance saloon" for the NRL's problem children , BJ, JTJ, Zane and now Hastings. Just curious, since Potter every coach and admin has talked about a positive culture and growing our stars, how does that stack up with buying problems.

The club was sensible in hiring Joey Leilua on a favouable contract. The reality is we are stuck with a highly paid non performer for two years.

Tamou had no idea about the Hastings news when asked on Monday, but he was happy to hear about the half’s pending arrival.

“I think that is great for the club moving forward,” Tamou said.

“Jackson has gone really well over in the Super League in the last couple of years.

“Obviously coming through the Roosters juniors, he has definitely got something there that I think will be important to this club.

“Having those couple of years of experience over in the Super League will be important to him, and just to bring his attacking prowess to this team will be important.”

Can Tamou, our captain, tell us what "coming thorugh the Roosters juniors" has to do with Hastings' benefit to WT?

He's (Tamou) been here 5 minutes and already feels safe to make comparisons with the Roosters systems and those of WT. Seriously?

I concur, Tamou needs to display more skills than jumping pulling and dressing gown modelling on the sideline before waving lyrical about the Roosters system (he’s never experienced it).
Hastings does not have the speed of Brooks but he has the mongrel and game management that will save Madge’s career - Douhe is safe but Brooks is not, Hastings is here to run the side at halfback and he’ll provide the leadership and toughness that was bestowed upon Brooks when was remunerated his mega salary!
Let’s not upset the apple cart for this season - I love the fairy tale about Hastings playing lock - it’s so fanciful and a little bit naughty but I’m going to derive so much pleasure watching Madge handle Brooks with a poker face .. the writing is on the wall (so big you can see it from space).... after 8 seasons of half-hearted plays, rubbish kicking game, lack of urgency all deflected at Benji and Reynolds it’s time to realise Brooks does not have the skills required.
Brooks: “You are the Weakest Link - Goodbye”

Do you write fiction professionally or is it just a hobby?

The writing is on the wall - don’t stick your head in the sand. We have a professional coach with his reputation on the line - he’s hardly going to sit back and apply bandaids to the wound year after year.
Brooks has the ability but mentally he’s not capable to bring it to fruition.
Our Sponsors will not commit forever waiting for your Happy Ending.

Welcome Jackson.

I am thrilled by the signing. He is a better player than many realise. What he did at Salford was remarkable.

A lot of people seem to be over the top in their criticism of Super League, often without ever watching it. Our best player since the 2005 squad came from the Super League.

I don't care in the slightest if he's a little bit arrogant (which I think is exaggerated to begin with). Our team needs arrogance. It needs a talker. It needs players who back themselves.

Everybody deserves a second chance - I feel this signing will tick the box for us.
Besides history tells me that Hastings is a battle waiting to happen.
Bring it Jackson.

The money from Leilua's contract and what we're going to pay for Hastings would make a nice sum to make offers to one or two highly rated Broncos juniors. We've had great success with our last foray.

We're pretty set for cash next year even aside from that aren't we? It feels like forever that we've been talking about 2022 as our big year in terms of a free salary cap.

So your suggestion is throw money at an 18 year and wait until they are ready for top grade? We could go after some Broncos juniors still. Joey won’t be here next year the way things are going so we’ll have that cash anyway.
