Heath Mason #288

Young players like Miller and Mason have been promoted to the NRL ahead of their time due to necessity. Please give them time to develop now. Both have outstanding potential and Mason is a very exciting runner of the ball. He is also not short on couraged.
Everyone is picking their top 17 players and worrying who gets left out?
Relax, there will be injuries, HIA, suspensions etc., most likely after 1 or two weeks and then they are all in the mix for the reshuffle to get in the top 17 and prove their worth.
Don't get your knickers in a knot, it will sought its self out over time.
They just need to get super fit and train hard for when that window of opportunity arises.
The coaches job to get them ready for that day.

Mason true value to this club is his utility value, but he needs 12 months pure KOE development to refine his game, he needs a solid off season in the gym and on the sprint track. Mason has the talent and desire to play at the NRL level just let him get the right experience.
Apparently he’s got the best rig according to Galvin, not sure if they were speaking about physique or 🍆 tho 🤣. Definitely think a growth spurt won’t hurt his chances in NRL

in the past ,all good 1/2 s had a barge arse,it helps if all the backline, busting the line if they have strong hips to barge rc thru lazy tackles, which they will find if they want it enuff(lol , enough)why did this team latch on like Nurse n facial fetos of south park

He's too small and raw to play centre, maybe in time but he'd be isolated and dominated out there currently. He's a hooker to me until he fixes the deficiencies that could otherwise have him playing at th back
Yeah he got caught flat footed on so many occasions in the centres.

I don’t blame him because he had to fill in for injuries but I think you’re right, seemed to go alright at hooker.

Honestly think 5/8 is his position but he’s probably our third or fourth option so not sure how many opportunities he’ll get there.

Hooker?

The position that is regarded as the busiest in the NRL? The Blender spot.

We tried to push Josh Reynolds there, who was an 80 minute 5/8, he couldn't stand it.

Heath Mason has "covered" fullback. He hasn't excelled there by any means. Hasn't mucked up, but hasn't scored anywhere near enough to keep that position. Putting him at hooker will just burn him out.

Sure if Api and TDS get injured, we will move Jack Bird to hooker.

We want to turn every winger and centre into back rowers. Might as well turn a fullback into a hooker while we are at it.

Great, natural backrowers are the studs of any team. The backbone and the heart.
They aren’t created, they are born. Born to be the hardest working and all round best players in any lineup.
We have to stop manufacturing them. Find real ones and nurture their growth. The dividends will be worth the effort.

I dunno if that’s true man , a lot of the top edge back rowers spent a lot of time in the backs coming through . They are usually the athletic specimen of the team I agree , but I don’t think there’s like some backrower factory anywhere .
As far as I’m aware the science , and I could be wrong , but the science actually recommends diversity in positions and sports rather than , building an Ivan Drago in a lab .
Basketball , volleyball , AFL , SOCCER , they all have a role to play . Whilst athletically I agree , that especially in 2025 , with guys like Fifita , olakuatu , kikau , Nani , even Fainu,
There’s definitely a prototype , skill set wise kids are better off diversifying their skillset across multiple positions and sports.
I know it’s a different position , but Cleary played football most of his youth , and you just see it sometimes in the way he plays.
Benji , played a lot of basketball , same as jarome . I’m sure there’s a million out there .
Even Michael Jordan , and LeBron James were elite at other sports as kids . There’s something to be said .

Seems for us they are a rare species at the moment Tucker surely there are some younger ones coming through at other clubs we can poach.
