Melbourne aren't all that different to us. They just have better players in every position.

That’s what happens when players don’t have contracts. They don’t put it in.

Agree. I think your really great coaches, like Bellamy and Robinson, are able to get the best out of their lower tier players. This impacts enormously on the success of a club. You rarely see a team coached by Bellamy or Robinson not show great desperation and energy in defence and rarely do they clock off in games.

Man that’s crap. Those guys recruit a specific type of player with certain intangibles. It’s not like they recruit everyone . Fringe players are of a specific ilk , and usually very similiar . For elite quality , whichever team they’re in matters little .
Also most of this teams personalities were brought to the club under a completely different philosophy. Both those coaches structures have been in place for years , so players who go there , are very aware of what they are there for .
We have to put an identity in place . We are still fielding a team recruited under a different identity .

Exactly. Bellamy would be in the same position we are in if a significant part of his cap were tied up in Reynolds and Packer.


Doubt it, Bellamy knows how to get the best out of even the most mediocre of players. They wouldn’t dare not put in for him on the field in every game.

I can guarantee you Bellamys roster does not have his mediocre/ worst players earning the most money - and if he did they would be struggling just like us.

It’s not the NRL that’s unequal , it’s the junior system . The roosters have none , so they recruit . “They’re a development club” according to Phil Gould. Never mind the fact they , and manly , pay 16 year olds “undisclosed “ amounts to play for them , rather than say, turn up to training at Cambo from eagle vale , they get on a hiace 3 hrs return from manly and Moore park.

Tonight I thought Eisenhuth and Larwence put in McIntrye until he got knocked out ..Taylor in the past few weeks

To think a coach could turn around the worst team in the comp in less than 4 or 5 years is ridiculous.

Mate he’s done a poor job, we’ve regressed under him. The results speak for themselves.

I have been concerned, particularly since the Warriors match when I first voiced it loudly, only to be drowned out by virtually all and sundry. I haven't given up on Maguire, but he is getting there, as anyone good in a certain field should be able to at least lift their group to a reasonable extent, whereas, as you stated, it is hard to argue that WT have not regressed.

Why do players get worse when they get here, and other players get better when they leave? We need an answer to that question.

Packer, Reynolds, BJ for example we’re good players when we signed them.

Similarly Paps, Sironens, Paseka were struggling with us.

Paps was killing it in juniors . He left because , we were focused on the big 4 at the time , and right up until the last second we thought paps path to first grade was blocked by the Australian fullback . We screwed up.
Sironen was going alright , he had an ego and still believed he was a 6. Went to manly and turns out , yep he’s a backrower. I’m sure if he had his time again he would have wished he’d listened . Heard an interview with him recently and you could here the love he had for us. Paseka was killing it as well, we just told him he had to wait a year ... he said no went to manly and......."... had to wait a year lol .

Curtis still has the Sironen gene. 1 good game every dozen, spends half the season on the back of milk cartons.

Could not agree more. Sometimes when systems, culture and organisations are broken the only way to go forward is to blow them up, pick up the survivors and build to a better standard.

We're noticing the weakness/deficiencies in the team foundation due to the club previously opting for quick fixes.
Every player we've lost in recent years we've never really replaced them with someone of equal ability, let alone improved talent.

i might be one of the minority here, but i see this team as having far more exciting talent then the Tigers teams of the last 2-3 seasons. I think we're building something solid.

You can tell the players that want to make this club successful and give it their all by the way they play - LL, AD, Sam M, Josh, Grant (to name a few) play hard, and play with gusto and passion. These are the players that i believe Madge knows cares about this club, and wants to keep. We need to keep adding to that list.

Unfortunately in my mind that list right now is not as long as the players that i sense are expendable, and simply just here because its an easy and stress free paycheck - thus they do not care how they represent this club.

My 1 and only other big gripe is our defense....i have never witnessed a team have such diabolical tackling technique as this bunch, the ease of which we let players break through is astounding. Honestly, our defense is terrible. This needs to be addressed by Madge severely.
