The players who know they are not going to be here are pretty dumb as you would think you would be playing your best footy to put your name up in lights for other Clubs to pick you up...

They did put there names in lights ..

Red lights !

Joseph Manu goes OK as a 3rd string Fullback..

He’s a gun hey

If the Roosters had a third string player in every position on the field they’d still beat us, such is the inequality of the NRL comp.

We put one of their 3rd stringers on our wing and he can't catch so I doubt wed lose that match up but I wouldn't put my house on it

Was he 3rd string? More like 5th string I’d say.

As far as I can tell from things our roster is unbalanced, we have quite a few newbies who have developing skills and little experience on the field and a few average players that in most other squads would only be emergency filler ins but in our squad are regulars, where WT roster has fallen down is we have no long term, experienced regular players to lead the team around:

Marshall- diamonds and rocks each game
Brooks- never been an organiser or the teams thinker, afraid of his own shadow
Packer- a high priced joke
Reynolds- a high priced joke
Mbye- a high priced utility, not a specialist and certainly not a captain
Lawrence- out on his legs, finishing up end of season
Taylor- experienced defender but not a good attacker
McQueen- never threatened to compete for the top squad
Jennings- a joke

With that list of experienced underperformers clogging the roster what hope does any coach have? Yes, certainly comment on lack of structures and defensive effort but if it is true there is a rift in the roster, with more than a few noses out of joint due to Maguire not accepting the perennial status quo, get rid of the rifted players now, there is only 1 match left for season- play the ones who want to be there.

One of the worst rosters in the league. Worst thing we can do is lose faith in the coach the fans and the club need to back him.

To think a coach could turn around the worst team in the comp in less than 4 or 5 years is ridiculous.

Mate he’s done a poor job, we’ve regressed under him. The results speak for themselves.

I have been concerned, particularly since the Warriors match when I first voiced it loudly, only to be drowned out by virtually all and sundry. I haven't given up on Maguire, but he is getting there, as anyone good in a certain field should be able to at least lift their group to a reasonable extent, whereas, as you stated, it is hard to argue that WT have not regressed.

I think he's stripping us back to the bones and rebuilding. Yeah, I know, rebuilding. But not bringing back old heroes to make the fans feel good, genuine rebuilding. Maybe building is a better word.

I hope that you are right, though for mine, a team that is/was in the middle doesn't need to be stripped all the way back, just patched and polished by someone qualified to do the job.

That’s what happens when players don’t have contracts. They don’t put it in.

Tonight I thought Eisenhuth and Larwence put in McIntrye until he got knocked out ..Taylor in the past few weeks

The post originally about the players that Madge has identified as not moving forward..Wouldn't they want to be playing their best to get someone to take them..?

You would think so, but for some reason it has the opposite effect.

Our roster is definitely unbalanced but that happens when you have the guys on the most money struggling to make the side.

Someone explain the logic...

We have young centers who desperately need games at center.
We have a young winger who needs to develop combos with them.
We have nothing to lose / season done...

PERFECT game to play Talau or Hoffman...

And...
We play Lawrence.

That just killed all faith I had left.

It makes no sense on every level right now and even less looking at 2021.

That’s a fair point although think Lawrence deserves a run should of been on thx bench.
I really ding know why Reynolds was given a run tonight he was useless.

Has been really poor everytime he has played this season.

To me he looks like a coach who has run out of ideas. From the point he went postal in the dressing room and abused a chair, he has been struggling. I also think the so called “honesty” session has thrown him as well. I sought of thought that player communication was an area where he excelled and to be publicly called out on it may be bit confronting? He is desperate to shed some players and bring some new talent which is fair enough. I hope it works for him because after that, I am not sure what he’ll do?

I think we should all just hold our nerve. We didn’t achieve this level of mediocrity in 5 minutes, so why should we expect to turn it around in 5 minutes. Our older, more experienced hang abouts are not living up to their price tags. And are certainly not showing any quality leadership for younger players. They will be gone over the next 2 seasons along with our precious goal of finishing ninth. This level of mediocrity has taken nine seasons to establish.

Besides the younger players and a handful of 'veterans' there is not much to work with imo. There is also a cadre of players coming to terms with the end of their careers and big dollar contracts unless they move. Change is very difficult and I have no doubt management factored this into the rebuild.

Thing is, if at least he would offer a rationale for his decisions, at least we could understand why he makes the selection he does. Continuing this game he plays just opens up all sorts of speculations about his tactics. If this is the best he can get out this bunch, there are ways to make this obvious, but it would show a weakness in that unlike other coaches mentioned, he just hasn't been able to motivate them, I personally don't see a team playing with any sort of tactics, or game plan, and surely some of this must be on Madge's shoulders by now?

There is not another coach in the competition who has so much money tied up in the wrong players.Until it is rectified we are are going to be handicapped. And please don't bring up JT because his roster at the time would run rings around this one. The one thing I think Maguire can lament is BJ - a risk that hasn't paid off at this point.

What about the roster was better? We had Tedesco, that’s it. We also had Lovett, Rankin, Buchanan, Milone, Edwards etc.If I took your post back in time to 2016, people would be splitting their sides.

How were Souths in there last year with Madge as coach ?
I can’t remember..?

A very respectable 12th. Burgi, Cook, Walker, Reynolds, Crichton, Farah, Johnston etc

I think everyone could see it was the players fault because he is a premiership winning coach ?

It’s always the coaches fault .. sheens , potter , Taylor , Maguire , Royce Simmons and his cones, sandercock , Hodgson etc. The reality is it’s guys arm grabbing , clocking off, being too slow , not tackling with aggression . You can have all the structure in the world , but blokes who don’t put in , will lead to what we have . It’s 100% attitude .

My question is why do the players, who were previously good at their former clubs turn to crap when they put our jersey on? BJ is a good example, sure he was always good for the odd brain snap, but he played well at Canberra, now he looks like a complete amateur. You can say the same about Reynolds after he joined us.

Outside of 2016 when he was a monster, BJ isn’t playing any worse than any other year.

Yeah, nothing shouts stability more than another coaching change before the contract is up.

we don't have the cattle, we have a centre playing fullback and we have no halves.............not much he can do

How about he just gets us to compete, like Holbrook has done at titans and Payten with the warriors with a side that as players coming and going every week
