How to get out of Blair's contract?

He is a solid player and would be good value at the $200 000-$250 000, but he is rumored to be on $500 000 with us. I think he is also easily replaceable and doesn't add anything special. Is there a possibility of offloading him to another team? I think the sort of cap hit he is causing will limit our ability to bring in players and has already badly hampered our depth by forcing us to move Gibbs and Fifita on. I think he still has three years to run on his contract. How can we get out of it?

Tim Sheens made comments about Blair's salary , which more or less said that he was on 400-450K

He has improved massively this year , and I see him as our best back rower

I think his true value is 350K -400k ,
If he plays to his full potential he is good value at his current salary .

It's already been said Bryce gibbs left because he did something wrong and the club didn't like it so they let him go. Why does everyone keep saying we let him go to get Blair he was gone already. Get over the fact we don't have Gibbs anymore everyone stop blaming Blair joining the club. I think he has been not to bad this year he is still adjusting to our club. Hey Greg inglis first year at Souths was pretty average because he had to adjust to the Souths game. Give Blair a chance it's only his second year at our club don't ride him of just yet.

Greg Inglis' first yr at Souths was average cos he spent the yr out in the centres catching a cold getting no ball due to the halves ineptness. Lucky for Souths McGuire had the sense to come in and play him at fullback

Blair has been pretty good this season bar the Saints game

Apart from Woods and Buchanan he's been our standout in the forwards

Agreed, i think blair's having a good year so far. Funny that some people just cant let it go.

thats like buying a bag of Kettle Chips and after not liking the flavour, trying to get a refund…

Blair has been going pretty good this year... He wasnt as bad as some though last year either. Probably a little high in the Salary Range, but apparently off the feild, he is doing alot of mentoring for the young players.

Yep he's playing so well they dropped him from the kiwi team, even when they were ravaged with injuries.

Face the facts, he is an average player at best. If he has been our best forward we are in massive trouble. Personally I believe it's only injuries that's keeping him in first grade.

I cringe when I think of the two or three quality back rowers we could get for his cap space.

Seeing that the club signed a ridiculous contract for him I supposed we have to keep taking the serving of mediocrity he throws up each week until the end of 2015…............awesome!

He has not been our best forward - no one has said that.

Thompson played 1 game and already outplayed Blair. Blair has been having a good season but nothing out of his comfort zone IMO. He has the potential to be our best but has not yet shown that.
His bar is set so low, I think if it was set higher he would struggle to reach it, and then he'd have the coach riding his back and in fear of being dropped. But no fear has been placed on him yet hence why he is only performing at a certain level.

Not many players will risk getting injured if they know they don't have to try that hard.

Blair's purchase price was negotiated as an 80min player. If I could play 80min in the forwards, in the NRL, I would expect the type of money that he is being paid. If Weststigers now chose to use him for less than 80min, that is their entitlement. There is no doubt, he is an intelligent player, if you watch the small things he does on the field. Luke Lewis, Greg Inglis and many other quality players take time to adjust to new systems at new clubs. Go Weststigers!

Spot on Col,2 or 3 quality backrowers for between $400 and $450k,I would like to see that, have you people been watching the market,Joel Thompson just signed a $1.2m 3 year deal at the Dragons, the market has changed.

The increase in the salary cap makes Blair better value - lesser players than him will now earn $450k contracts without CEO's flinching. (Thompson's move from ACT is a good eg)

Whilst he isn't starring,he does a lot of dirty work that goes unnoticed, like pressuring the kicker, picking up loose balls,he is going ok.

He's going alright, not great, but lets hope he get a kick up the arse this year and shows us what kind of player he can be.

Because WT don't defend as a unit, our forwards waste way too much gas on defence and then trying to get out of our own half.

Any forward would struggle in that environment.

It's the complete opposite of how Storm operate and Blair is learning this first hand.

He has been one of our better players this year up until the stgeorge game -in the dragons game he was moved out of the middle to the edges and forced to play 80 mins again. He is best in the middle and playing 60 minutes
