I dont buy that he is only being considered as lock. Pretty sure he might play a game or two there but there will be pressure on Brooks, if he doesn't perform, he can be dropped with a genuine replacement. Happy for that to be the case.

Reading between the lines of what the Pom said he will take Walters spot . We will release Walters even if a swap with donkeys can’t be made

Walters name popped up for the first time at Intrust Cup level to fill the Quota as it looks like Walsh is gone, could be a 3 way player swap? Also heard the manager of 2 backrowers from different Nsw teams has requested a releases to join the Tigers.

I remember before we signed Cory Thompson there was about 0 people thinking he would start because he came from super league and had already had a stint in the NRL...

Don't write players off just cause they're from overseas. Plenty of ESL players have been making an impact over here lately

Corey Thompson had a bit of NRL experience prior to going to ESL. Many were surprised he wasn't picked up by another NRL club. No one was surprised Hastings went to ESL. I don't believe any club wanted the drama in their dressing sheds.

Rubbish.
No one except us wanted Thompson .. who had nowhere near the success that Hastings has had in Super League.

With all the success Hastings has had in the UK and considering the position he plays is in demand in the NRL, clubs appear to be avoiding him. Why is that CK?

Corey Thompson has enjoyed a very good NRL career.

How do you know teams are avoiding him?
Are you aware of any discussions he’s had?
The reason we are talking to him is because we’ve got a dud halfback dragging the team backwards with him ... worth taking a chance on the current Man of Steel winner who just happens to be a halfback.
As for Thompson, nothing against him, but he’s a pretty average player with a big heart.

Having expressed such when the initial reports began, not surprised that they wrote about Hastings being looked primarily for the lock role as despite most other's opinions, for mine we have not been going great guns in the middle and Twal has always been a prop.

100% agree. Twal is not a lock and the way NRL is played this year his physique and (lack of) speed is much more suited to a prop position.

Is Twal's speed [lack of] a problem?
I may be mistaken, but I thought I remembered Twal chasing one of the Roosters wingers along the touchline and nearly darn well catch him.

Murray showed last night what a good lock will do for your side, Twal is not even close to that, we need a lock and a right side secondrower, then there is the halfback issue, and left wing

Good post champion @851.
And if we can see things, what's the story?

Yeh agree with Ink and Lauren.
You sign these blokes when you're desperate and you end up stuck with them for 3 years or more on too much coin.

Is he that much better than Brooks, Mbye, Madden, Doueihi and Laurie? Id have him in the middle of that bunch based on his first NRL stint.

What's the solution? Fortune favours the brave.

I see your point but reactive decisions are usually poor decisions

It is not reactive, they have been in talks trying to get him for quite a while, Brooks poor form was there too see last year, thats why talks started preseason

Hastings is not the current Man Of Steel winner. The current winner is Paul McShane, a half, from Castleford. If you place so much faith in this award why aren't you calling for his signature?

Hastings had no option but to go to ESL. I guess if you want to rewrite history you can pretend he didn't have fallings out with players at more than one club which in turn got rid of him. For a Club attempting to rebuild its culture, this story about his acquisition if true would leave many scratching their head.

As for Thompson, I'd like a few more players in our team with his heart.

My comments on management are obviously personal thoughts - but included facts - and just because you're not in agreeance with them or take offence, I think you're being quite rude to call it a blow up.
Thought the forum was a safe place to vent about anything Tigers related.

I apologise if I offended you. I didn't use the term "blow up" at all? I said I thought you had gone off a bit early - in the angle that you said its destabilising news.

Yes its a new spine but Luke Brooks has been at the club 8 seasons - it's his own form issues that have brought the criticism and attention.

Let's see if he can get out of his current contract first.

Then see how much the transfer fee is or what they want in return.

Personally hope Wigan keep him for the next ten years.

Spot on Russell. I don't want Hastings anywhere near the WTs.

You two happy to see us struggle every week because we have a dud halfback?
Oh, he’s a local junior... that changes everything.?

If you believe Hastings is the answer, the wrong question is being asked to the wrong inidivdual.

I rewatched his “highlights” in the super league

Seriously he’s as slow as a wet week and some of the defense he was up against reminded me of us on the weekend

Mitch Moses 2.0 with even less talent

Maybe what you should be looking at is why does Maguire want him in the team?

He is not an idiot.

Could it be the things that dont show up on highlight reels like game management and a good kicking game.

Things we desperately need and dont have in the building.

47 games in the NRL and showed diddly squat

One was at a club that had the incumbent NSW halves to learn his trade off & coming off a grand final win

He’s been killing it in the super league, like most NRL outcasts do and people here think he’s the messiah

I suggested in another thread we should look at young talent stuck at powerhouse clubs - who knows, we might get another Daine Laurie / Harry Grant hungry for a crack

Ive already mentioned we should sign someone like a Ronald Volkman, i agree with the youth policy.

Watching Hastings highlights with an open mind i can see he is a tier or two above Brooks in

pass selection-
pass timing-
reading the play -
ball distribution/ bringing those around him on to the ball -
natural footballer - eyes up and in the moment

Ill take that over a guy who has done diddly squat in 150 games.

It’s easier to execute pass selection/timing etc when the line speed of the opposition is of super league standard. That’s the outlier here

Watch the staggered lines and weak first up contact in the videos. Some of them are just basic short passing to blokes at pace and crashing over the line

Now I’m not supporting Brooks, patience is wearing me thin but he has shown those facets of play at NRL level. not this year or last year, but years prior.

That is why our opponents look so good. No commitments or speed in defence. Have a look at how we ball watched last week as guys ran across field, backwards and any direction except forward. Move up as a line and shut the ball down.

It is not rocket science

Watching the Rabbits last night, I thought what a difference their outside backs showed in defence compared to urs the week before. When the Rorters spread the ball wide there were always players from the inside sprinting across to cover the gaps. Our players just jogged and watched. Nothing about ability here, just application and desire. If nothing else from tomorrow's game, I will be looking to see if our players show this level of commitment ALL game.

Happily take McShane then... anybody but Brooks.

Call me crazy. But with the way the game is played we could sign Lachlan Lewis and play him at 13. Can ball play but is a great defender and he’s off contract.
