Jackson Hastings #251

Time will tell with Hastings...definitely had some attitude issues in his past, however having watched/listened to all his interviews I think he has learnt from his mistakes and I think he'll offer lots to us this year.

I think he'll give us a bit of toughness too...last year we were too nice and had no resilience. Jackson Hastings is a winner and I don't think he'll lie down and let teammates not put in when things get a little bit tough.

I'm optimistic, but not completely sold just yet.

If we start with a Hastings-Brooks combination and it works well, I can't see Doueihi playing 6, which is insane. He'll play centre (or he could play as a ball-playing lock, which makes me wonder why we signed Peachey).
I think it's clear that the club want competition for places, and in 1-2 years Hastings, Brooks, Doueihi, Peachey won't all be there. They can say they want to keep Brooks all they want, but if he doesn't perform, he'll be out the door. If he does, there'll be a better problem on our hands.

Defence is the thorn in our side, last year 714 against. Lower teams Brisbane and Dogs were better and the spooners thrashed us in the last game.
My point is, Hastings better or worse in defense?
Has anyone got the good oil on this guy as highlight packages I've seen are of attack.
His cross kick bombs have resulted in a lot of tries, look for our tall timber to leap over the opposition and score, like AD or KM.
Hope he improves our team

Seems most of the blokes running him down and not prepared to give him a chance are Brooks fanboys.
One less than stellar game and they'll want his head ...yet are happy for good old Brooksy to serve up more than a dozen lousy games every year.

And the ones pumping his tyres are Brooks haters. Go figure.

Don't confuse being hopeful with being hateful.

We may as well give Hastings a chance before writing him off its not like Brooks can get any worse… or can he? 🤔🤔

Brooks haters? I think you mean realists.
Most people aren’t ‘pumping his tyres’ but want to give him a chance to show his wares.
Brooks has had 9 years to impress and has never shown more impact than his first game.

I don't think I'm a Brooks hater at all and I'm pumping Hastings tyres up. We need a gun spine player desperately.

Brooks is a much better defender than Hastings, I'm concerned how Hastings will go defending in the NRL
Attacking wise I think Hastings will be good for us

There's only 2 players that I have disliked while they wear the jersey, anasta, and tamou. Brooks used to be my favourite player about 5 years ago. He has not improved. He could maybe improve with a change of scenery, but......
My biggest reason for wanting him gone is that this year is supposed to be a nothing year, according to Madge/Sheens. Why do we persist with Brooks then?
Give the keys to Hastings and move on.

If Doueihi didn’t get injured we might have moved him on if he doesn’t improve this year I really can’t see him being there for 23 or if he is don’t think he’ll be kept after that unless he improves big time

What most of the posters on here digging up Hastings past, forget that the guy really knew and admitted immaturity...I admire him for being man enough to face up to his shortcomings and can only see he will be good for us,if only to make the squad play better and lead by example....
an old saying comes to mind....

"HE WHO HAS NOT SINNED CAST THE FIRST STONE.."

I understand what you have written TT and understand the impact immaturity can have on a player. Those putting the boot into Brooks should also understand that while Hastings was dealing with immaturity, Brooks (nearly similar age) was in the NRL consistently. This is a very important difference between the two of them.

Halves often have minders in D

We certainly do not have any minders, so as far as defense goes, Brooks generally gets a pretty high pass mark.

Having said that, I have to say that I was very disappointed with him in that last game against the Dogs, but he wasn't the only one that put in a disgusting effort.

My take on this is they have to earn it. Can you imagine someone like Wally Lewis having to be giving the keys to win us the game ? Any top tier player is just going to take the game on. They don't need to be told to to that.

So to me Hastings and Brooks are our best options in the halves starting next year. They have got to earn their spots because Doueihi is coming back and he is going to have to earn either a centre or half spot.

It's better to have options and it's better to make players earn their spots.

I want Hastings to kill it and I'm praying he does but to me he has to prove himself.
