Jahream Bula #269

If Bula doesn't stay we are in a different position to the past in a big way.

Other players can see we are on the rise and IMO would want to join and be a part of the success coming. We have a coach who is locked in and a lot of good players locked in and a place where players seem very happy.

I don't believe all the hype of the Dogs and would not go there unless overpaid. They had a very lucky draw and results last year and it won't happen again IMO.

I’ll still be shocked if we don’t just take our option. Bula (a god fearing man) will do his job this year and next worst case. On all the vids of the boys he seems to be a part of the group and well liked. I didn’t know he is a blend of Samoan, Fijian and Indigenous

Bulla is not worth the money or the hassle , been poor again tonight , needs to lift or he can go imo , he just don’t look like his heart is in it , lift or move on worst on field so far at half time
Were we watching different gsmes?

Being at the game i thought he was putting himself in the right position to help create more attacking options.

He is also starting to show that deceptiveness before accelerating.

Pay him $1million. Not just for his talent but for what he brings to the team culturally.

Another poor performance.
He would be the only player in the team that's been bested by his opposite number regularly this year.
If we had Kaeo Weekes last night we win by another 2 tries.
Bula just never creates his own opportunities.

No Wests Tigers player in history has ever changed my mind as often as much as Bula. mayyyyybe early Luke Brooks. But yeah, Bula can look world class and terrible quick as a flash. And he's no schoolkid. He's custard and mustard. He's actually started chiming in to backline play a lot lately, really well, and that's what everyone here was whinging about last season.

He'll keep getting better but he's not a class apart from Kaeo Weeks or Jye Gray. Although yeah, Richo said it best the other day when he said he was the new David Peachey. Like he's legit but not someone you base your whole roster around like Ponga. It would really unbalance our side and prospects to pay overs for him, but would be brilliant at the correct price.

One thing I've noticed about Bula this year is that when he defends the high ball he's been turning sideways in a half spin before he tries to catch the ball which is giving the attacker the space under the ball almost uncontested.
I don't know if he's trying to catch and spin out of the tackle or he's just scared of the contact but it has to stop.

I don’t know what everyone else was watching but I thought he was pretty good last night apart from the bomb he dropped.

Looked to be carrying that shoulder injury and I think that’s why he didn’t have the strength to stop Weeks from scoring.

He’s consistently better than Drinkwater who will allegedly be on $900k next year, taking up the option is a no-brainer.

Bula did help save a try in the 2nd minute when Zak Hosking was tackled just short by Tiny & Bula over the top prevented him reaching out to score.

We currently have no option other than to pay him 900k as there is nobody better available and it would upset the team bond if he was to head elsewhere.
The questions are is he going to be happy with 900k, is he going to be happy if we initially only take up our option for 2027 and not extend him any further ?
Not forgetting that if one player is getting very highly paid, all our other high profile players coming off contract over the next couple of years will also expect top dollar and we may not be able to fit them all in our salary cap if giving them all the too dollar value they would like.

The same Kaeo Weekes who fell for Royce Hunts slow motion side step? Sure..

Ho Hum. Rinse and repeat.

I like that if we kick from the attacking 30-50m, you know it's going to be a high ball. It's predicable but not defendable. If they try to run any escort on Bula, they'll get pinged.

The one thing we do need to work on though if Bula is chasing those kicks is falling back into formation. Every game we have conceded a line break from a scrappy high ball contest.

We are quite good on set kick chases and going into formation, but we struggle to go from attack to defence.

Most teams are like that anyway, but if we wanna be Top 4, hope we work on that attack to defence transition.
