this is about to get interesting, i can see this becoming a bad buy
i mean he will be better than brooks but hes not gonna be the guy to turn us into a top 8 team, the real star of that team is cleary
can't be choosy. Just because he's not Cleary doesn't make it a bad buy. And just because he won't be able to make us a top 8 team immediately after winning back to back wooden spoons doesn't mean it's a bad buy either. He's there to push standards of culture and competitiveness which he has plenty of

well lets just hope the competitiveness is still there if he comes to the tigers

Who's more likely to get the job done...

Fulton or Benji?

We know the PNG people are Rugby League mad. It wouldn't be too far-fetched to think Olam was / is a HUGE Benji fan & having him fly down for a chat would be a enough for him to feel appreciated and impressed.

Hopefully Benji thinks PNG is a bit of an untapped market & invests some thought into recruiting more from that area... with the Olam play just being the beginning.

Benji would be most likely to push Olam over the line, but that wouldn't be the same with Luai?
Or are you thinking Islander to Islander. Does that work New Zealander to Samoan?

If we pull his signing off, and we don’t make the 8, the question shouldn’t be ā€œwhy did he not get us to the finalsā€, it should be ā€œthe last 3 years we’ve signed Api, Pap, Bateman, Klemmer, Luai, and unearthed a potential star in Bula, yet still cannot make the finals. Why?ā€. That would be the more appropriate question.

And not only why don’t we make the finals, why are we still on the bottom of the ladder? Because at this stage, even missing out and finishing 9th place in 24 and 25 looks like a massive task.

Let's wait and see what happens. 2-3 development players coming good plus our forward pack performing to their pay packet and we'll turn it around.

Both. Benji is the face, Fulton is the negotiator.

Benji though is doing alot of the right things regarding effort & commitment to his role. It’s very very early days but for a rookie coach it’s hard not to be impressed.

Let’s hope he can execute and get us moving up the ladder regardless who he brings in. That’s his KPI end of day.

Benji Marshall has upped the ante in pursuit of the NRL’s No.1 free agent, making a secret visit to Jarome Luai’s house as he tries to land the huge signing to kickstart his head coaching career.

A fortnight after Luai officially hit the market, sources familiar with the situation not authorised to speak publicly said Marshall met the three-time premiership winner at his western Sydney home to discuss the merits of a move to the Wests Tigers.

Despite being yet to coach his first game since taking over from Tim Sheens, Marshall has taken a hands-on role in trying to attract some of the NRL’s best available talent to the wooden spooners of the last two seasons.

And he’s set his sights on the market’s biggest name, one who has admitted Marshall was his idol growing up, and has so far resisted signing a $1.7 million, two-year extension from the Panthers.

The Tigers are yet to table a formal offer to Luai, but Marshall’s decision to meet the 26-year-old is an indication the club is ready to make a statement signing.

Marshall did his best to distance himself from any Luai speculation just over a week ago when he fronted reporters in Sydney, preferring to focus on the players he will have at his disposal for 2024.

Veteran half Aidan Sezer, Jayden Sullivan and Latu Fainu will all join the Tigers next season, while Adam Doueihi is on the comeback trail from an ACL tear and could be available later in the season. The club also has highly rated teenager Lachlan Galvin on their books.

ā€œAll players that come onto the market, you’ve got to have a look at, especially if they’re marquee players,ā€ Marshall said. ā€œBut we’ve signed halves. We’ve got four halves for the season going into it. We’ll prioritise that at the moment.ā€

The Marshall interest only adds to the intrigue in the Luai stakes, which could have a domino effect on the sluggish player market for the likes of North Queensland’s Tom Dearden and the Roosters’ Joseph Manu.

Marshall wanted an experienced half in Sezer at the club to provide direction after Luke Brooks’ switch to Manly, but Luai could easily assume the halfback role at the Tigers and run a team away from the shadow of Nathan Cleary.

The Panthers are hopeful of an answer from Luai before Christmas given they’ve set aside significant money for him, but it could be dwarfed by a multi-million dollar offer from a rival club such as the Tigers.

The Panthers have refrained from escalating talks with Luai recently as he recovers from shoulder surgery, but his future will be a priority over the coming month as title-winning stars slowly return to training.

with all due respect our roster is still a lot worse than most of the teams. It goes further than the board and culture. If you're looking talent wise, Tigers probably have more players with talent than Titans, Dragons, Raiders, and Bulldogs but that's about it

Why though? What’s the excuse for having one of the worst rosters in the comp? Especially when we have the second biggest junior nursery in Sydney behind the Panthers?

It's years of poor recruitment and retention but it's a tough market. The market is tough because other clubs rort the system better than what we do.

I don't know who you blame those years of poor recruitment and retention on though ?

I think you got to be specific. Jason Taylor, Ivan Clearly are big stuff-ups but what about Nofo's contract ? Clearly has been great at Penrith as well. He was a good coach here but his recruitment here was awful but at the same time we were poor before that.

It's not simple as well because all clubs have bad contracts.

Not really no. The dude I quoted (I’m blanking on who it was), said it made his blood boil listening to Zorba. If it’s giving you that reaction, it’s clearly not good for you. I just said Kemp comes across as unlikable. I wasn’t claiming that watching him illicitā€˜s such a negative reaction that it made me angry. I was just like ā€yeah, don’t like this dudeā€ and moved on.
I didn’t turn on the radio to listen to Zorba. He came on as soon as I turned it on. Your situation is far worse. You said you dont like Denan and yet you chose to listen to him. You should follow your own advice

Which was Coach Clearys point. Luai is a reasonable player but he NEVER really takes control of a game. His strengths are building on the skill of others ie. Cleary, Yeoh, Martin etc.
I’d feel much better about chasing him if we had a good organising half, look at Reynolds and Mam as a prime example .
Be careful Benji !!!!
