There could be something in Ivan’s final message as they run out before kick off? ‘There’ll be 4 or 5 of you who will win this game for us today…be one of those 4 or 5.’ The club has earned the right to deliver that sort of trigger.

The Daily Telegraph’s David Riccio believes a move by Jarome Luai to the Wests Tigers is looking more and more likely with each passing day.
Luai’s current contract will see him remain at the Panthers until the end of the 2024 season but has yet to re-sign with the reigning premiers who have already tabled a two-year offer worth around $800,000 a season.
Tigers rookie coach Benji Marshall is reportedly front and centre of the sales pitch to Luai and Riccio believes a decision on the 26-year-old's future is imminent.
“To Wests Tigers fans, I wouldn’t be prepared to say you are going to get a huge present under the Christmas tree in the shape of Jarome Luai just yet,” Riccio said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.
“However, there is a big chance.
“Benji Marshall, in his ability to woo and sell the dream to Luai.
“At a recent house visit to Benji’s place made by Luai, (a deal) is now starting to gain some traction.
“Let’s not forget the relationship of Api Koroisau and Charlie Staines, (both) former Panthers.

Nathan is by far the best player in the game and deserves credit and rightly so, but anyone who thinks that he doesn't get favouritism from the coach is blind. There would 100% be subtle favouritism at the very least. The media never criticise Nathan even when he did his silly Tik Tok thing during lockdown or when he supported Tyrone May among other incidents. When Nathan took 'unders' on that 1.3 million deal he could easily get the money Dad is getting and find a loophole through that way. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Jett is a good player but like you see with Brad Arthur and Shane Flanagan, Ivan will take Jett over a more talented half. This might sound crazy, but if there is something that could bring down Penrith's dynasty, it would be one of Nathan or Ivan doing something silly off the field. It would distract both of them. Which is why in 2019 (Ivan's first year back) Penrith struggled when Nathan's best mate Tyrone May was charged with being a sex offender just before the season started

You don't have to be a great player to succeed as a half in Penrith's system. Their forwards and backs lay the platform with run metres and their defence is impenetrable. That's why guys like O'Sullivan and Cogger who are average look good but are shit anywhere else

I don't think that at all. it's being dragged out because we haven't lodged an official offer. these things don't move in a matter of hours, they take weeks.

True, but been out of the NRL for a while, and older now. And he is nowhere near a Cleary or Reynolds.
Hey, if it all goes ahead then I’ll say my prayers and hope for the best. I just don’t think we should look at Luai as a miracle cure.

The major development has emerged amid increasing suggestions from the NRL that Luai has told his closest teammates that he is leaning towards leaving the Panthers at the end of 2024.
Wests Tigers coach Benji Marshall has taken a personal interest in the chase for Luai and it is understood he has the support of the club’s board to go all-in for the Panthers star.
However, it is anticipated that Marshall will face stiff competition from the Bulldogs, who have a long list of connections to Luai through head coach Cameron Ciraldo, marquee-signing Stephen Crichton, backrower Viliame Kikau, NSW Origin talent Matt Burton and fresh recruit Jaemon Salmon.
Yet it is the Tigers that have got the edge after Marshall held a recent meeting with the three-time premiership-winner at his home in the inner-west of Sydney.
At the heart of the negotiations is Marshall’s preparedness to offer Luai the opportunity to be the chief playmaker, regardless of whether he plays in the six or seven jersey.
It is a position that many within the game believe Luai has craved, having spent his first grade career in the shadow of champion Panthers halfback Nathan Cleary.
Money is also a factor. It is understood the Wests Tigers are prepared to offer a deal worth close to $1.1 million per-season for Luai, who turns 27 in January.
Marshall will need full board approval to table the offer given the enormity of the contract. However, it is understood that is a mere formality.
An offer in excess of $1 million would blow Penrith out of the water - the Panthers have already indicated to Luai that they can only offer him a maximum of $850,000 per season.
The Tigers have signed veteran half Aidan Sezer for 2024 only, but have invested heavily in recruiting Dragons half Jayden Sullivan and also former Manly rising star Latu Fainu.
The Wests Tigers also have high hopes for teenager Lachlan Galvin, who was a star at this year’s Australian Schoolboys carnival.
Luai, who has played seven matches for NSW and 11 appearances for Samoa, is also seen as a mentor to the likes of Sullivan, Faini and Galvin.
The Wests Tigers are also leaning on their connection to Luai through former Penrith teammates Api Koroisau, Brent Naden and Charlie Staines.

I'm not getting worked up about getting Luai. If we get him great but he'll cost huge dollars and that is risky.
