Joe Ofahengaue #240

Is it April fools day?

I’m not use to so many articles that are somewhat positive from new players coming in.... 2021 the year of change.

Another player with a reason to have big year after a disappointing 2020 season. All this player hunger hopefully propels the Tigers to the finals in 2021!!

This is the Non Siebold cut of the article release yesterday.

Really looking forward to seeing Joffa.

Forward pack is very solid in 2021

Finals will depends on the spine

It's interesting when combined with the other article from Joffa of how he had to pick up the phone to make this deal happen.

Really great to see a quality player want to come to the club.

Slowly we're turning the titanic.

Brisbane Broncos players 'got the 's--ts' with Anthony Seibold's tactical approach, says Joe Ofahengaue

Former Broncos star Joe Ofahengaue claims Brisbane players under Anthony Seibold grew frustrated by the coach's tactical approach but players also played a part in Brisbane's embarrassing slide.

Ofahengaue, now enjoying his time at the Wests Tigers following a bumpy ride at the Broncos which included playing Origin and a DUI charge, believes the way he was used in the final year at the club led to his lack of confidence and poor form.

Ofahengaue was moved from front-row to back-row to lock continuously, which led to the star lacking consistency and understanding of his role. He said other players felt the same.

"At stages, and I'm not going to badmouth Seibs. I think he was a great guy," he told Fox Sports.

"I think his coaching strategies were nowhere near what we needed last year.

"Us players as well, we were at fault as well, because we weren't honest [with Seibold] sometimes. He'd say we need to do this? And as players we just agreed.

"So we played a big part in that as well. It wasn't just a coach like, I'm not going to fault Seibs. It was on all of us as a club.

He is also full of praise for the strength of the pack he finds around him now, led by former Panthers skipper and new club captain James Tamou.

"I had a couple of clubs coming for me but when **I saw Jimmy Roberts sign here** then... I saw a young hungry team that's just waiting to have some forwards," he said.

"**I saw Jimmy Tamou coming over** and I said 'why not'.

"We've got a lot of depth here, that's one thing I'm really excited about. And then actual guys that really want to do their best for the team. It's a good look so far," he said.

"**I'm really excited to work with Jimmy Tamou in the forwards**. Even the bench, on the weekend, Thomas Mikaele, he's a freak. When he gets going and gets that second phase he's going to be awesome for us.

"I think Stefano (Utoikamanu) that came from Parramatta, he's got a big engine and he's a real workhorse."

This is why it is so important to get the higher profile signings. One thing leads to another, let's hope it's just the beginning.

Don't really like players bagging other clubs and criticising former coaches. Also not keen on players admitting to a lack of effort. His comments make him look like he's a bit needy and difficult. But who cares if he plays well, right? Can't wait for the fluff to end.

Joff and Tamou both looked supremely fit last Sunday, they have clearly got a point to prove to clubs who moved off them. I can’t wait to see the battle with big papa

Ofahengaue ready to ramp up the intensity

Wests Tigers enforcer Joe Ofahengaue is preparing to ramp up the intensity when he runs out for his first home game for the club against the Sydney Roosters at Campbelltown Stadium on Sunday.

After the team weren’t able to record a win in his club debut against the Canberra Raiders in Round 1, Ofahengaue is fired up and ready for a big performance this time around.

“It’s great for us to play in front of our fans this week,” the recruit said.

“I haven’t had a home game at Campbelltown before so I’m looking forward to it.

“Hopefully we have lots of Members and fans turn up because I know this team is ready to bring it on Sunday because we owe it to the fans from last week and we’ve been working really hard.”

Facing the ladder leaders on Sunday, Ofahengaue understands it’s always a big challenge when facing the Roosters — but he and his teammates are ready for the clash.

“They’re a top four team — they have been for a while — but it needs to be about us this week,” the representative forward said.

“We need to bring the intensity and match their professionalism.

“They have a good forward pack and they all work for each other, so we need to match their energy.”

Ofahengaue admits they weren’t disciplined enough in the season opener, and with wet weather on the cards for the weekend, the side will need to get the basics right.

“The learning curve for us is that we need to hold the ball,” he said.

“Possession is king. We gifted three tries last week off the back of our mistakes and costly errors.

“The way we can fix that is transition well and respect the ball.”

“The learning curve for us is that we need to hold the ball,”

lol. That explains a lot.

It's amazing how many teams struggle with it at times.

Thought Joffa did well last week. 13 hit ups for 128 metres, a couple offloads and tackle busts and 26 tackles. He came close to scoring and would've set up someone if they had followed him through the line too

Yeah the Aloiai Offa trade has been astute IMO. We’ll see him deliver more of what we need for the tigers.
