I can't even begin to understand how you can say this. They are equivalent forwards and we didn't release Aloiai until we had confirmed signing of Joe O. They are contemporaneous.
>It is just very unfortunate that there was no deterrent for players stitching us up again. And a lot of us said this last time with Matterson. So who’s next? Nofa? Twal? Mikaele? Talau? Liddle? I’m guessing it’s more than one next time. Wonder how that will go down.
Personally I'm happy for it. Every mug who dumps a club because they've leveraged a higher pay packet elsewhere - they can go. I see a correlation between that type of mindset, where you throw your toys out of the cot, with failing to perform in high-stakes situations. It's a weakness of character and we are better off without those players.
Ultimately you want to be as close to the Melbourne Storm as possible - sign them cheap, train them up, hope to hold onto them when other clubs come around with paycheques, but always have a ready-made replacement.

I genuinely don't understand why people think this. The Tigers said they weren't going to just release Aloiai without a replacement. Such a replacement became available, and they were able to use the cash they were going to spend on Aloiai to secure him.
Pick an option:
A) Stick Aloiai in reserves and don't replace him on the first grade roster, to make a point that we won't be pushed around.
B) Stick Aloiai in reserves and sign another prop, using money that could have been used to strengthen the squad elsewhere.
C) Decline to release Aloiai until a suitable replacement can be found, find one, sign him and then release Aloiai to free up cap space for said signing - thus making a like-for-like swap.
You're totally welcome to believe Ofahengaue isn't a good replacement for Aloiai. You might be right. But if the club thinks he is, using Aloiai's money to get him is clearly the best outcome for the 2021 roster.
Joe O is not a replacement for Aloiai. There was plenty of room and funds for both. I don't watch Broncos except for when we play them, so I don't know much about our new player. I'm hoping for good things though.
Gaining Joe and losing Josh are two unrelated events.
The problem here is we said we would not release Josh A unless we received a financial advantage. That was a very public statement. And now WT have said we received a payment for Josh A (good to hear) but we're not disclosing how much, WT just wants us to trust them. Maybe it was a high enough amount, and really if the figure was publicised, only WT are in a position to adequately judge whether the figure meets their criteria or not for it being a 'good enough' amount.
It is just very unfortunate that there was no deterrent for players stitching us up again. And a lot of us said this last time with Matterson. So who's next? Nofa? Twal? Mikaele? Talau? Liddle? I'm guessing it's more than one next time. Wonder how that will go down.
Seriously all the *****"WAH WAH WAH we want to know how much"***** rubbish so self centred and ridiculous. There are MANY commercial reasons not to disclose even not considering the obvious contractual ones. Maybe Manly dont want it disclosed or as POM alluded to earlier, if we are using that money as an enticement for Penrith to let Laurie go early, why the hell would you let them know how much we got? Would totally destroy any negotiations.
I am pretty fed up with how people read something and interpret it how they want. I didn't say I want to know how much, I never did. I even said, only WT could judge on whatever the amount was as to it's worth.
I have said on here repeatedly that this all about making a stand to prevent players trying it on us in the future. We even had some players for crying out loud apparently backing Josh A's comments on social media, that's certainly not a good sign for our future.
I'll be clear, I don't care how much we received in compensation, I don't want to know. It was all about trying to discourage players from trying us again in the future, and in that we failed. Maybe we'll do better next time, because I guarantee you there'll be a next time now.
But you will never discourage players looking for more money, they have managers whose job is to constantly look at this, they only have a small window to earn these big $’s, I said earlier a contracted player can only leave if it suits the club.
Tbh, I was happy Lee showed some passion and said what he said, because most of us was thinking similar

I agree and I think it's a fantasy where some folks hope that taking a hard-line on all contracts will ensure players don't try to land bigger deals in future.
The reality is if you have a player fielding large contract offers whilst within an existing contract, you have them on what they consider a reduced deal. Quite likely they are your junior or debutant. You will never prevent those players from looking at deals elsewhere, because that's how the system works. Storm can't prevent it, Penrith can't prevent it, Souths can't prevent it. Doesn't matter how hard or soft line they are. Releases happen all the time.

I like the addition of Joe O but I see losing JA as losing our second best forward (after Luciano) so I think this isn't much of an improvement overall. People are getting a little overhyped about our signings. We've basically signed players unwanted at other clubs on small contracts. I like the signings but it's silly to get hopes up about this season. Adding Joe O and keeping JA would have meant better depth and a stronger pack, I don't think we've achieved that yet this season. Tamou is certainly an improvement on what we have, but he's a year older and he might not have the commitment to play hard this year on his final contract. Overall, the clubs making good signings but we're still too impatient to get rid of players or coaches as soon as they get a little upset. We've seen Melbourne, Eels, Penrith and even the Titans handle such demands with more conviction. It seems like every time a player or coach requests a release we talk tough and then release them within a week. I really think JA could have been productive for us this year, irrespective of what has been said.
The players at the other clubs didn't burn their bridges like JA did.
But it only shows future players how they go about these sort of disputes if we let players go because of their public talk. Ignore his public comments and tell him he's either playing for us or not getting paid. It's simple and they've signed a bloody contract and just like we're doing with Packer and Reynolds both parties have to honour that. It's just really short-sighted and weak by us. This is the perfect year and the right sort of player to take a stand on. He's an average footballer and we're going to be an average team next year (if we're lucky), you're not disrupting anything by standing your ground on this one. And if it really doesn't work out and we have a potential signing coming in then we can just release him when it suits us. But right now we're making another team stronger and we're looking like pushovers again, because we are.
The way to prevent that is the NRL changing the rules in this area, not us fielding a weaker squad to prove a point.
In saying that it appears we get $100k+ compensation for releasing him. That doesn't paint us as weak.
Nrl are currently in discussions with Easts,Souths and Roosters rite now to determine whether contract enforcement was in their favor...and as theyre all stacked with imports we'll leave the status quo excatly as it is
Great constructive reply.

He gets his info from the players not the clubs. Of course the players are going to cover their own hides if necessary. In almost all cases, the statements players make through him are 100% factual. This is backed up by no club ever refuting any claims made by players, such as Brad Takairangi sharing his experience about signing for us.
Considering the club has made several comments about Aloiai's behaviour, anything he says will carry a high level of doubt.

Josh Aloiai slipped into a Manly jersey on Monday as Wests Tigers chair Lee Hagipantelis insisted the club had shown they were no longer a soft touch with their handling of his controversial move to the Sea Eagles.
Hagipantelis had threatened to make Aloiai mow the lawns at Leichhardt and Campbelltown unless the club reached an agreement with Manly that was acceptable to the Tigers.
The Tigers eventually allowed him to leave, but only after they received financial compensation from the Sea Eagles and signing Brisbane and Queensland forward Joe Ofahengaue to fill the void created by Aloiai’s departure.
The Tigers have been branded pushovers in the past, but Hagipantelis insists they showed with their handling of Aloiai that they would no longer be an easy mark.
“I said we would not be releasing him unless there was an advantageous outcome for the Wests Tigers,” Hagipantelis said.
“At the end of the day if a player comes to you and asks to be released in the manner Josh approached the club, his remaining at the club comes untenable.
“It wasn’t simply a matter of the player approaching the club and asking for the release. There was another level introduced into it — it was publicly reported that he threatened to never pull on the jersey again.
“The jersey has a certain intrinsic value that every supporter understands. It became clear from the outset that him remaining at the Tigers was untenable.
“What we have done is release a player who did not want to play for the Wests Tigers, we have secured a player who does want to play for the Wests Tigers, and there has been a financial accommodation with two of the clubs which serves the interest of the Wests Tigers.
“So we held firm and we fulfilled out expectations as to how it was going to pan out. I think from a Wests Tigers fan and member perspective you should be proud with the way the club dealt with this situation.”
Aloiai was at Manly’s Narrabeen headquarters on Monday, having made an immediate switch to the Sea Eagles after being released fro the final year of his contract with the Tigers.
Ofahengaue, whose deal will be paid in part by the Brisbane Broncos, is yet to begin training with the Tigers, although he is expected to join his new teammates later this week.
“Did Josh get what he wanted? Yes, he got released,” Hagipantelis said.
“Did the Wests Tigers set the conditions on which the release would be granted? Yes we did. Were those conditions fulfilled? Yes, they were.
“We had a player that made it very clear he didn’t want to play with us. I ask rhetorically, why would any fan or member want that player to remain?”
Asked wether he had a parting message for Aloiai, Hagipantelis said: “I just wish Josh all the very best. I hope he takes a moment to think about some of the more intemperate remarks he made about the Wests Tigers and that he may think better of them moving forward.
“I would hope he cherishes his time at the Wests Tigers and this incident hasn’t soured any of that.”
