Juniors - Pathways General Discussion

A few ex WT pathways players on other clubs T&T lists published in the DT today:

https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/s...n/news-story/bbfb4c73eefffbc5afa262e18f9c37df

Most we know about.

Navren Willett & Onitoni Large (Manly), Maddax Fui (Souths) and also Mikey Nassar (Roosters) & Ben Stevanovic (Dolphins).

Interesting that Marc Tannous is listed as a T&T for us but no listing for Vaka Aho & Kobie Wilson although they were previously announced by the club as securing their future with us (maybe they are just Magpies NSW Cup deals).
I thought someone on here mentioned that Mikey Nassar was heading back to WT's for next season...

Any word on Bailey Hodges or Cayne Nicholas ?
Bailey training with NSW Cup & Cayne training with the WT yesterday. Only player left to account for is Herman Tofaeono.

Has been an amazing retention offseason of our junior talents, only Large, Willett, Isdale & Fui (plus I guess Faagutu & Miller) to move elsewhere & that’s only because others were higher in our pecking order for their positions.

Herman was our Flegg player of the year, surely we kept him. Otherwise we've just released our top 3 young props and replaced them with no one?!

So the outgoing are Maddax Fui, Chris Faagutu & Jordan Miller.

And incoming in terms of being rated highly by the club are Tim Johannssen, Vaka Aho, Christian Taupau-Moors, Kohan Lewis, Jekope Sovau (and hopefully Herman). Herman does offer us that powerhouse high leg speed tank of a middle.

The last three will all still be Ball/Flegg next year though. If we're talking players ready to push for first grade next year its TJ, and then a big gap, maybe Rahme. No one else is even training with the first grade side currently so it means there's very little depth at prop pushing for first grade sadly.

Yes that is true but only Miller maybe Faagutu would have been pushing in '25.

I also forgot Noah Johannssen, I'd imagine he'll stick with his brother even if just on a Cup/Massey deal.

I do think it is very possible we will recruit another experienced prop on a NSW Cup contract. Probably just waiting to see who is available over next few weeks & willing to play a mix of Cup & Massey (and possible NRL in injury crisis). A Jordan Grant, Austin Dias type.

Good news! I have had it on good authority that Herman Tofaeono will be with us in '25, I think on a NSW Cup contract.

Awesome job by the club in retention as I said earlier.

After the season finished, I wanted to see the club retain Bailey Hodges, Vaka Aho, Cayne Nicholas, Kobie Wilson & Herman as a priority out of those moving out of Jersey Flegg age next season, and we have!

Out of our junior reps aged 17-20, I listed Makasini, O Large, Taupau-Moors, Godinet, Broederlow, Willett, Haywood, Duncombe, Johannssen, Isdale, the Taotua brothers, Fui & Ta'ai as our priority to retain. Out of those 14, we've only lost the 4 in Large, Willett, Isdale & Fui and we have others in their position higher in the pecking order.

A shout out to Shannon Gallant & his team for this.

I believe in '25 we now have good depth from NSW Cup down to Harrold Matts so everyone will be fighting for their positions. Unless an injury crisis unfolds, I reckon we'll see quite a few of our NSW Cup contracted players playing Ron Massey Cup, some of our NRL & development players playing Flegg & our star SG Ball players fighting very hard to crack Flegg later in the season. How it should be!

This weekend, a Saturday morning sweat session at the infamous Wanda Sand Dunes awaits Wests Tigers’ Pathways players.

Around 320 junior representative players will head to Cronulla for the event, in a valuable opportunity to bring squads and staff from across the club’s Pathways regions together prior to season kickoff.

Western Suburbs Magpies, Balmain Tigers, Macarthur Wests Tigers, and Wests Tigers' junior female programs will all be present at the dunes.

The session will mark the conclusion of the first block of Pathways pre-season training.

Wests Tigers Pathways & Recruitment Manager, Shannon Gallant, discussed the benefits of holding events such as Saturday’s slog.

“It’s just great to bring so many Pathways players together, as well as
staff,” Gallant said.

“The session will be extremely valuable, anyone in rugby league knows how brutal the Wanda dunes can be, but it’s also an opportunity for players and staff from all our Pathways regions to connect.

While everyone might be at different stages of their playing and coaching careers, we’re all from Wests Tigers.

“Any time we can bring everyone
together always makes for a great team-building exercise.”

The first round for most junior representative teams will kick off on the weekend of the 1st of February, with Macarthur Wests Tigers teams to commence their season the following weekend.

Anyone have any results and/or standouts?

Who played? Did Haemasi, Phoenix or Ashton Large get a run?
