That was a very long post…

I ran out of tin foil...

Tinfoil on special at Coles, you may need more before this thread is dead….

As for Pascoes interview,he did do very well and at least he was honest and open....the main thing with all of this contract drama and the players moving on is that here at the WTs these guys were our juniors and everything was given to them to make them happy and stay,it's the way it WAS,now things are being done differently and the majority of the people who were set in their ways have had to make decisions for themselves and the betterment of the club, apparently change hasn't been welcomed by our big name players and have decided to move on...great move by the clubs management to put the club first, not the players and change the culture of our club which has been toxic for quite a number of years...I don't care that the players are leaving, that has always been their option, the club has done its best and should be applauded for not giving in to them..
I do recognise how much we cheered for these players at the WTs,however, the replacements will be cheered just as loudly on game day and I can see the membership growing bigger with sucess in the future......your either on the bus or off it....I'm buckled in for the long ride..l

Yep, nothing more than fluff and deflection.

Pascoes failure to manage 2 player managers in the past 2 seasons is at his feet.

Very good approach
Acknowledge what's happened
Be accountable
Wish the departing well
And now … let's work on ensuring the future is better than the past.
Good communication
Hopefully this group of administrators wantvto be part of a rich future and through their actions take the club forward
Future is looking a whole lot better than recent times that's for sure !

What does that mean? You can't control player managers, they don't report to you. Best you can do is work with them, but only if they share your end-goal.

Does failing to sign certain players mean you failed? Sometimes players just want to move on. Seemed to manage iMoses ok to re-sign Brooks. Seemed to manage Ayoub ok to move Farah on, he went after all.

I watched it and I found him to be very stiff, he seemed to be holding back a fair bit, also noticed he went around a few questions asked by the girls. maybe he was holding his tongue on bagging the 3.
the one thing I liked was, when he said it was a mistake to tell fans how to react to the 3.

I would have the interview to be a bit longer, only went for 10-12 minutes by my reckoning.

He just didn't have enough time to effectively answer all questions, especially when he was cut off on occasion.

Too many people asking questions, should have been one on one.

My opinion is that once Cleary came in, a budget was set for each of the players. It was likely deemed that Moses and Woods were asking significant money which is outside what the new coach was willing to pay so they elected to leave. Tedesco likely made his decision as the other two were leaving, and Brooks resigned for reasonable $$.

The fact they have all gone to different clubs indicates that playing together was not their motivation and it was all about money irrespective of what they say in the media.

I applaud the decision. We will not have a mediocre roster because the top three or four players are being paid overs like we had with the previous CEO. I wanted to keep Tedesco, but we will get three decent players with that money and I look forward to seeing whom we continue to recruit.

I also think this is better for us. We were going to have a massive pay disparity between players and I don't think it's worth it. We've had that culture for years as well.

Now I think we can stop that and develop a real good squad.

Though that he went pretty well but nothing new really. He seemed to stop short of saying some things at times, and instead took the moral high-ground.

Not sure that I could have bit my tongue like that - there must have been some feelings of wanting to get square with what Woods has been saying!

I don't know how well we will go without them but they're not here next year so the point is mute. But we will be a decent team without them, of that I am sure.

What I do know is that Pascoe did try and do most things to keep them happy to stay - offered all of them overs, gave them ample time to consider contracts, brought in the whisperer, brought in his masseurs mate - and still they didn't sign.

I will still cheer them on while they wear our colours but next year they will be just another team's players.

What I am proud of is that Cleary didn't put the 'house' on them like Pascoe wanted to. Supposedly we offered Tedesco $1.2M, Moses $950K, Woods $900K and Brooks $850K per year.

Brooks reportedly signed for $550K (saved $300K)

That's a saving if $2.5M a year just from the Big 4.
You could argue that Tedesco was worth that much.

We've signed Reynolds for $750K ($200K saved)
Matulino $400K ($500K saved). Not a bad outcome.

At least you read it all though.

I, too, read it all, and agree with the very large majority of it.
I do think they expected their man Payten to get the gig, or even Webster (mMoses mentioned him being 'the best man for the job' on more than one occasion). When Cleary arrived in lieu of these two, coupled with old mate whispering elsewhere - we have our issue, on account of which two players have left, and their agent has led the news ltd lackeys on a pitch-forked PR warpath.

Also - I still don't have an issue with the 'please don't boo' email. It wasn't overly strongly worded, and showed support for the club's captain. Since when is that a bad thing to do?
I can guarantee that Hooper and co would have called out Pascoe and Go for their perceived lack of support, had they remained silent on the matter.

I think anyone with half a brain can realise that the blame sits fairly and squarely with the players and managers, and media for beating it up as requested by the managers.

I think Pascoe in particular has sat there with very much gritted teeth, mumbling under his breath and seething inside, just having to weather the storm and standing at the foot of a battle he could never win. If the players stayed, we stayed poor and the manager continues to rule the streets and the CEO is a dick. If we let them go, the CEO is still a dick because the big stars were allowd to leave. Its a no win. But guess what….Now, we call the shots!

I like him, alot. This guy is not a dud by any stretch. He has put common sense and good business ahead of heart and emotion. Heart and emotion is what brings NRL and other clubs to the brink of disaster and financial ruin time and time again. Its the backstory to rugby league. Business acumen and smarts is what keeps the big guns alive.

The heart and emotion is for the fans, where the decisions ARENT being made.

My only fear is this guy gets poached by another organisation to build them up from the ground, which is where his skills lie.

Well said ppl kept blaming the club because of the past. We have strong leaders now and the sooks didn't like it. They have lost their opportunity to leave a legacy at a club they loved and a club that wanted them to stay. Whatever they achieve in the future will pail in comparison to what they could have achieved here and one day they will realize that

What a good post…that is as good as I have read in a long time. So true

I think he was caught off guard in how ruthless Isaac Moses was but finally saw the deal was rotten.
He has done a great job considering he can't please everyone.
