Kane Evans

Would easily be in our 17 if not a certain starter. Probably not the position we need the most though so would need to be cheap.

He could easily play as a wide running backrower, and would slot straight in our run on side

In attack yeah maybe, but have serious doubts with his lateral movement in defence out of the guts and the minutes he could put in.

Our coach would know plenty about his strengths and weaknesses, but you may not be okay with him making the decision.

Our forward pack (with Evans)

8.woods
9\. Liddle
10\. Kane Evans
11\. Ava
12\. ET
13.Sue

14.Tim Grant
15, JJ Felise
16\. Lawrence/Josh A/Junior making the leap
17\. Utility or Ballin

That would not be our forward pack with Evans…

LOL

As much as we all would like to see this player or that player join our team for next year I think we may have closed the chq book on that and are looking to secure Teddy , Mosses , Woods , Brooks .
Players that have been named on here as possible or wishful thinking are just that , we would only look at a player who will come cheap as it took a long time to secure ET .
2018 will be the year we break out and have a crack at adding to our roster but I think we would only add 2 maybe 3 good solid First graders if we lock up Teddy and The others

Teddy , Woods , Mosses , ET , Brooks along with our solid young group of almost ready for top grade players mixed with Nofo , Timmy , Lawrence , add 2 solid first graders in position they play in and we will be very competative

ROOSTER A WANTED MAN

The race is on to snare the signature of exciting Roosters forward Kane Evans.

The Wests Tigers are ready to launch a bid for Evans and entice the 25-year-old to leave his digs in Bondi and return to his junior club.

They’ve got their four biggest names off contract but that hasn’t deterred the Tigers from hitting the open market.

With Michael Chee-Kam, Joel Edwards, Tim Grant, Kyle Lovett, Ava Seumanufagai and Aaron Woods off-contract, the Tigers are in the mix for another forward.

Aside from being a Leichhardt junior, Evans also has a link to the Tigers through their coach Jason Taylor.

Taylor coached Evans in 2011 and 2012 as part of the Roosters’ NYC side and later worked with him when promoted to the role of assistant in 2013.

But the Eels are in the market for a player of Evans’ age and size.

The Eels identified Evans as a player of interest in 2016 and had hopes of being able to lure him across to the blue and golds for this season, although that is no longer the case.

Still, Evans is a player of interest for 2018 as he’s a rangy forward who can also play backrow.

And the club has several front and backrow players off-contract this year including; David Gower, James Hasson, Rory O’Brien, Frank Pritchard, Kelepi Tanginoa and Peni Terepo.

Having progressed through the Roosters’ NYC system to making his NRL debut in 2014, Evans has played more than 50 first grade games.

It should come as no surprise the Roosters want to keep him.

But Evans isn’t in a rush to make a call on his future, with his management waiting for a decision on how much the salary cap will increase by in 2018.

A Fijian international, Evans is pushing for rep honours as he builds on his 2015 City Origin jumper and 2016 appearance for the World All Stars.

yep. he'd go well. A lot of players to sign for 2018\. Evan's would be on my hit list.
I've mostly seen him in the front row. that article says he plays backrow as well. however a can't imagine he would move laterally in defence any better than say Sue.

According to Zero Tackle we only have 6 players signed for 2018\. Aloiai, JJF, Lawrence, Liddle, Sue and ET. and no one is on big coin. Lawrence is only on $300K. So 2018 will almost be a clean slate for us.

That said, not too sure how accurate or up to date Zero Tackle is.
Re-Signed: Josh Aloiai (2019), Luke Brooks (2017), Michael Chee-Kam (2017), JJ Felise (2018), Justin Hunt (2017), Chris Lawrence (2019), Jacob Liddle (2018), Jack Littlejohn (2017), Esan Marsters (2018), Mitchell Moses (2017), Tim Simona (2017), Sauaso Sue (2018), Elijah Taylor (2018)

Off Contract 2017: Matt Ballin, Luke Brooks, Michael Chee-Kam, Joel Edwards, Tim Grant, Watson Heleta, Justin Hunt, Jamal Idris, Jack Littlejohn, Kyle Lovett, Matt McIlwrick, Mitchell Moses, Kevin Naiqama, David Nofoaluma, Jordan Rankin, Ava Seumanufagai, Tim Simona, James Tedesco, Aaron Woods

Even with his contract renegotiated and extended Lawrence would be on more than 300k p.a.You forget that his origional contract was reported as a back ended contract worth about 700k in his last year(2017).You would have to think he would be on 420-450 otherwise the NRL would have knocked it back.
Would love to have Evans here where he belongs

just what we need a big fast backrower, well grant, Edwards, and Lovett are of contract surely that would cover his signing.

Imagine keeping the big 4 and adding some grunt to our forward pack. Would be a great signing. Time to do a massive cleanout of the dead wood and buy some quality for 2018.

If you could get him hungry and focused he would be an awesome signing. Trouble is he looks to be very Curtis Sirro-like, happy to just plod along and let others do the hard yards.

If we sign Evans let's all agree to play him in position as a prop

As this back row talk is garbage

He isn't a back rower , he is a prop

If we want to buy a back rower , we go out and buy a back rower OK ??

He is big and athletic and that would suit the brand of football we tend to play. As for the odds of getting him, I would say slim as there will be a lot of interest

Thanks god were actually looking at recruitment and not just putting all our efforts into the retention of the big 2 and the potential 2.

Yes probably but then you need to find 2 other players for that money as well - you can't have a top 23 you have a top 25 so covering 1 player with 3 salaries means you have to let go others to spread their wage across the 2 other spots you have no more money for.

Now I like the idea of Evans for the right price but he hasn't exaclty kicked on last year at the roosters so lets not break the bank.

Also we have Woods, Grant, Ava, Sue, Aloia, Paseka, JJ Felise, Tatola all in our FG squad which is some great young players so have to be sure to get the balance right because swapping Evans for Grant or for Ava doesen't make your team much better or worse

Re; Lawrence's $300K. i'm just going off what is listed on ZeroTackle. They have him down as $300K for 2017, 2018 & 2019.

Lawrence also gets part of our Long serving player allowance not included in Salary Cap..As will Woods in his next contract…

Evens would come at the expense of probably Tim Grant ..should it happen..
