Kyle Lovett gone?

@Snake said:
Salary cap what rubbish if Lovett is gone there is certainly a good reason considering he was Taylor's love child last season .There is a new footy dept team at the club now so maybe things have finally changed and the knives are out … there also could be a few showing major improvement in the off season hence Lovetts demise ,this could be a gee up anyway .

If there's cap pressure, a solid young lad might be the easiest one to sell. He's no superstar but he plays hard, makes his tackles and runs his lines. No lingering injuries and not on stupid money. Not that Taylor would want to get rid of Lovett but if you're going to clear cap space, you need to sell something other clubs actually want.

Releasing Lovett to another Club for Cap issues makes no sense as others have pointed out…**yet so many have run with an un substantiated report by a News network**..

A voice of reason…..

Sometimes I cant believe so many on the forum make decisions about how the club is run and base their thinking on a 10 word unsubstantiated tweet. Apparently its a stupid move by the club, they haven't checked anything to do with his contract, he has been unfairly treated, it's wrong, the club is letting go the wrong people, he wants to stay, its Farah all over again, etc etc.

How did all this get deduced from this one brief tweet?

I've no doubt the club check the legalities of these things before they happen. I've no doubt Kyle Lovett is aware of his rights. I've no doubt, as they do with other ex-players they will top up the contract if that's the requirement. Gee whiz. Take a chill pill and wait for some reliable news. For all we know he had been requesting a move prior to this. Who the hell knows on here?

I liked the guy. He clearly put in as best as he could. He wasn't flush with talent, but he worked hard. If he needs to make way for improvement of the club, then fine by me.

A few on here bagging him, but don't kid yourselves for one minute that if Lovett played somewhere else and was being released from the Broncos or Cowboys or Roosters, there'd be ten threads on here outlining the reasons why we should pick him up as a bargain basement handy second rower, such is the craziness of this place at times.

Looks like it's the un-substantiated reports are the accepted Norm…

While it hasn't been made official, given the clubs recent history of making clarifications when things are stated incorrectly in the media, I'd say they'd have watered down this if it was just a rumour. They're very image conscious

Makes you wonder if Lovett being managed by Ayoub has made him an obvious choice. Unless they are big name players, I wonder if they're making an effort to steer clear of players he manages.

Mitchell Moses will be next then.

moses is managed by issac moses, so is brooks.

if lovett goes i believe the only guys still at the club managed by ayoub will be nofa and idris (in the top squad anyway). teddy sacked him after the canberra debacle.

Moses/Brooks is managed by his brother isn't he ??

I think Teddy was leaning that way as well

He'd be a good pickup for Newcastle

Not a big loss for the WT…

Second row is a strength for Newcastle with Mitchell Barnett, Sione Mata'utia and Jamie Buhrer. He'd have better luck finding a home somewhere like Manly, Souths or even Melbourne if he's going to stay in the NRL.

Melbourne would be a great place for young Kyle. He'd develop well under Bellamy and Smith and Cronk can make ordinary back rowers look like superstars.

Bit of a furphy that one IMO. Which ordinary backrowers do they make look like superstars? Proctor, Ryan Hoffman, Dallas Johnston etc were better than ordinary players. Can't think of any other backrowers of Melbourne's that really rate a mention.

Yeah, he might be considered by a good few on here to be a "plodder", but not too many other backrowers can show that they were a cut above their peers in a rep game, just as he was when playing for City last year. Whilst no star, he gets on with his job and is sold well short on this forum.

I'm a bit on the side of not understanding why he cops it on here. Probably a couple of shockers in the centre's hasn't helped his cause however he can't be held accountable for those.
He is a good worker and improves with each season at 23 he still has something to offer.

If there is any semblacne of truth to this, it's likely that WT have told Lovett he should probably take whatever he can get elsewhere, and a certain player manager has likely embellished the truth to the media.

Old Sammy will do whatever he can to drive the knife into this club. Dirty cheating bastard.

Same Lovett has been asked to go if true. I thought he improved dramatically last year. Plays with a lot of heart and it makes up for his lack of X-factor.

How on earth are we over the cap?

Cos we're paying $750,000 dollars for Robbie to play for Souths.

We would of been paying RF's salary anyhow regardless of whether he was playing for us or someone else. The club would have had his salary factored into our plans for recruitment/retention for 2017.

If the club has just flicked Lovett for no reason (which I personally don't think they would of) then it is very poor form from WT. More than a few of our players could do well to play with as much effort as Lovett does. After all, it seemed pretty blatant that blokes in our club were getting game time more due to the fact they were good trainers etc moreso than the talent they showed on the park come game day.

That's what doesn't add up. He was one of the first picked every week by JT and now he's told "on yer bike, son."

Doesn't make sense.

Absolutely CB, it doesn't make sense. And if the club are all of a sudden enamoured with our up and comers who have "potential", they would have known these blokes were going to be in front of Lovett in the pecking order then you would like to think our management would of let Lovett know that fact sometime last season to at least give him the chance to shop himself around to other clubs instead of leaving him in the lurch. That would of been the right thing to do at least.

We ATM could not get more from Lovett, as he probably reached his peak at WT, also, we have players with more 'up potential' e.g. Griffin, M C-K, Marsters, Sironen.

my 8-17
8 Woods
9 Ballin
10 Seumanufagai
11 Sue
12 Lawrence
13 Taylor

bench: T Grant, Falise, Aloiai, LIddle.

ATM our depth 2nd rowers are: Edwards, Griffin, M C-K, Marsters, Sironen
props: Lolo, J Grant, Tatola, Paseka, Eisenhuth

Yep if true the timing makes no sense - and if I was Lovett I would be dirty as. Just not buying it atm.

Why not punt Rankin if someone has to go, he is not a first grader, even if our coach thinks he is

I fail to see the drama, Lovett has a contract he doesn't have to go. Earlier in the off season Nagamia was reported to been shopped around but dug his toes in and said he was staying.

Now if another club offers him a longer and better contract, well that's a win….other wise he tells the club he is seeing out his contract.

Okay it seems ruthless and unethical, but it's the way most clubs operate these day

Tomorrow's Sunday Tele will attest to this

You can only punt a contracted player when another club wants his services….Not sure Rankin falls into that category.

Must be a bit more to it . Likely given Farah treatment I.e you will not be playing first grade and he must have a another option to go to if he is going.

Fair point, I would just prefer Rankin gone so JT won't keep picking him.
