Lachlan Galvin #277 *Megathread*

Every way you cut it, this looks bad for Wests Tigers. We have a player on a long term contract, in a key spine role, on a cheap contract, who wants out and has at least two other clubs who want to sign him. And despite all of this, the best we can do is get a $165k transfer fee! No player swap! We got nothing. So Gus secures a player he has been desperate to sign, and in effect pays for wests tigers end of season trip in return. Ironically, we will probably be taking that end of season trip the Doggies are paying for at about the same time they and Galvin are playing finals footy. The fact he’s going there for about $300k per season less than we offered just makes it worse. Richo has done a commendable job as GM, but on this one, at least from a fan’s perspective, he has had his a$s handed to him by I Moses.

I don’t think it looks bad on the tigers. They would have known Galvin would go early as soon as they said he had beef with the club and wouldn’t resign, and there’s nothing they could do about it. It wouldn’t surprise me if that just left their mouth shut until it got closer to Latu being fit, then released the news about the “board meeting” to discuss Galvin leaving early.

There are plenty of players that want to be at the tigers, Latu being one of them. Galvin just doesn’t fit in there, and from what I’ve heard that’s kind of his personality.

It will be interesting to see how he goes at the dogs with Crichton, Burton and Kikau who are all friends with Luai. Sexton and Tracey are also well-liked, so Galvin better perform and stick to the plan, otherwise it could be trouble in paradise.

Something definitely happened between Galvin and another player - probably Luai. I’m sure it will come out soon enough.

It’s very disappointing he’s leaving and we can’t understand it because we think the Tigers on on the up…..and hopefully we are.

However, Galvin would prefer to develop at the Dogs and it’s hard to argue with that. This seems to be a Tigers problem that he doesn’t want to be here, for what ever reason.

What annoys me is why we didn’t make him work for it more or get a bigger transfer fee.

The way we handled it could have been better.

On Gus, he got Ciraldo and now he got Galvin.

We run second again, we all pray that will change SOON

At the end of the day, what does it matter to us if Gus was BS’ing about the Dogs interest. Seriously? How does it affect us? I suppose if you are a Parra fan, you might be entitled to feel a little dirty, but Galvin already said he was leaving. We weren’t in the picture. So what do we care if Gus wants to be cagey about his club’s intentions? Talk about misplaced disgruntlement.
Also... if Gus was doing it for us we'd be pretty happy. Can't deny the guy knows what he's doing, and the fact people love to hate him tells you he does it pretty well.

Does anyone got any ideas why? I think our team is heavy poly / indigenous and he maybe felt he didn't fit in. The doggies cultural mix is different to ours.

I'm not buying the coach thing.

Team effort Gould, Isak Moses and Galvin orchestrated it, no doubt the bullying accusations were all part of the master plan - Richo, you were sucked into the vortex- I expected a better game from you.
Can’t wait ‘til Preston wakes up and realises he’s worth double and he’ll be carrying Leo Thompson’s bags for him.
Next Reed Mahoney will be pushed out to make way for TDS

I rewatched the whole Bloke in a Bar interview recorded just before the PMs 13 game which LG made in 24.
It might just be my take but you get a sense that he was just treading water at Wests and his interest in the side waned when Sheens was sacked and Benji was named as coach.

Further to this. People want Galvin gone ASAP. And if Gus screwed any club, it’s Parra. So what’s the big deal?

The only people who were are impressed with how Gould got Galvin to the dogs are the dummies who believe the crap that he spews.
The whole goalpost changed explanation is laughable.
It was obvious months ago what he was doing and used his media position to make his intentions known without having to make any approach to the manager - an entitlement that no other GM has power to do.

Will be interesting to see Anastas take on all this. I reckon he’ll temper his opinion regarding how badly tigers are treated.
he seems to be pretty open on his podcast about how he thinks this could derail Canterbury. he's an interesting character at the best of times, but credit where it's due, he's still been pro-Tigers when openly pondering Galvin to Canterbury.

I’m not defending Gus. I really couldn’t care less. However, look where his club is, and look where us and Parra are. Nice guys finish last.

Gus might have outsmarted himself this time .. he is taking a risk that Galvin’s addition to that side doesn’t occur with a downturn in their fortunes … they looked ordinary last game when they got pole axed whilst the Roosters with more Origin players missing flogged a Top 4 team..

I think it could too. My doggies mates aren’t impressed. When was his last podcast?

Always admired Gus, but no longer. Snake, absolute snake in all of this.

I cant really blame him for using everything at his disposal to do what he thinks will improve his team - but there is no explanation why he can hold down that position in the media whilst having the position he does at one of the leading clubs in the competition…
