OFFICIAL Lachlan Galvin #277 *Released* Career Discussion.

Right now, what is the difference between Galvin and Douhie?

Both are too big for the halves.
Both have below average acceleration and speed.
Both are hogs (Galvin less so), although they are dangerous runners.
Both are poor defenders.

The only difference is Douhie has a larger body of work whilst Galvin is mostly a projection.

One is on a one year ~$325k contract whilst the other is apparently the second coming who is going to a sign a multi year deal averaging $1m per season or close to it.

Would we better off having both Latu and Douhie for a combined $1m as opposed to Galvin alone for $1m in which case Latu would almost certainly leave? One of these options would be significantly better for our roster and salary cap. Plus we could get rid of Isaac Moses’ clients.

I’m not saying one option is better than the other, but with Luai on a 5 year $1.2m contract should we be considering the Latu/Douhie option? Will be great to watch the first few weeks/months of footy to see if the answer becomes clearer.

Galvin is so talented.
He could be the best player in the game in no time.

I think there's a solution here.
Galvin probably won't like it though.
Or maybe he won't mind.

It was discussed in a Channel 9 show with Fitler & Johns and he said one day he'll move to the backrow however sees himself as a half at the moment.

You missed out a fair bit -
One is coming off 3 ACL’s and has hit his ceiling long ago.
One is in his second year and has supreme fitness.

How you’d say they have similar pace is beyond me - AD has concrete boots on, Lachie while not fast is much lighter on his feet that AF

I think a Bula, Fainu, Luai, Api spine with Galvin in the second row or lock is our best option in the long run, it's just a shame that Galvin would probably sign elsewhere if he heard wind of that happening. Obviously I don't know if that's the case for sure, but for a player who seems so keen to leave, moving him to a less lucrative position seems like an easy way to lose him

Kid just finished high school he will be a star. Have to be patient and lock him up more importantly. He’s not physically developed.
The most exciting talent we’ve seen since Tedesco.

Latu also looks the goods but there’s an obvious edge to Galvin at this point.

Great problem to have which will sort itself out over the next two years.

The way everyone is harping on about his game you’d think he’s a 10 year vet. This is only his 2nd season of grade & the kid is only 19 years old. We are extremely lucky that we have 2 extremely talented young halves in Galvin & Latu.
Fair call....I think the fox coverage triggers me, trial form not a major concern and I'm sure Benji will have him at 6. Thinking long term I want the best for the club and I want to try and keep Latu and Galvin.

We are indeed very lucky. But at some stage we are going to have to choose which one we want for our long term 5/8. Of course, it will be a two way street depending upon how each player plays and how much money they want, and whether injuries play a part.

Remember, Fainu was tagged as getting first crack last year. It was only because he did his hammy that Galvin got his foot in the door.

Galvin could become one of the great ball playing 13's in the next few years but unfortunately he probably sees himself as a 6
would love to see
7. Latu Fainu
6. Luai
13. Galvin

It’s an interesting predicament. I haven’t watched the game (however will watch replay tomorrow when uploaded to N website), but I would hope that they choose whoever is better at this current moment to play the 6 alongside Luai out of Latu and Galvin.

Let’s remember Galvin was realistically 4th or 5th in the pecking order last season but got parachuted into the team with injuries to Doueihi, Latu and Sezer for the start of the year and then the fact Jayden Sullivan was abysmal in those early games. He only stayed at the 6 as Latu kept having Hammy issues throughout the season, although he still was playing quite well and wasn’t deserving of being dropped. However, it’s a new season and if Latu is playing better than Galvin then he should be starting at 6, simple as that.

Long term, I see Galvin in the second row and Latu in the halves as the best possible outcome, but I don’t know how interested Galvin would be in that. He does have experience at 2nd row as he played there in Harold Matts and I think Mason played 5/8.

A lot of contract issues with Galvin as well, but I’m very thankful we have Latu to 2027, because chances are before Nov 1 2026 we’ll know what’s happening with Galvin.

On the bright side at least we are having issues with having too many good halves rather than too little like some other teams.

I’ve been saying this since midway through last year.
Kid is an excellent footballer…he is not an excellent half.
