OFFICIAL Lachlan Galvin #277 *Released* Career Discussion.

I have raised this up before jr paying that kind of money only reduces the quality of the rest of the top 30.
Penrith's cap model is what needs to be adopted by WT. identify your core and attribute a percentage of the cap to said core, and fill the rest of the squad with local juniors and solid first graders.

on Galvin, it's extremely hard to determine his value as he's 19 and has only played one season in a poor quality team where he was given the license to roam. the first six weeks of this year is going to go a long way to determining his value.

I think right now he's probably worth $650k, which could rise to potentially $800k depending on how he gels with Jarome. there is no way he's worth seven figures. talk to me when he's been part of a side that's made finals and he's playing regular rep footy.

Crazy deal but not surprising after the brown news.

Not sure we should match that until we know the new cap - vlandys might not get what he thinks. If the cap doesn't change its super high risk.

having potentially $2.7 million of your cap tied up in the halves is salary cap suicide. if they are willing to pay that and bend their roster completely out of shape, let them.
Yeah its always a fine line. Some players complain about wanting to win premierships, but take up a fair chunk of cap which doesn't allow the roster to be strong around them. Sometimes it's better to accept less to get more in the long run.

Identifying the right player to pay the big money in our case Luai then assigning the right values down your top 30 list by their quality, sounds easy but to be successful you can't make too many blunders, 4 titles show the Riff got it right.

Based on what they've shown so far, I can't imagine us holding on to Galvin, Luai and Latu.

The only way is if we keep winning and Latu is happy to stay back up like Pezet/ Nicho at Storm.

Knowing our luck, we will show their potential to the world and they will underperform for a year or two, then lose them to another team where they will play good..

Short term if he can handle centre I would play Latu outside his brother Sam that would probably keep him happy for a while until we see what Galvin is going to do.

There’s zero chance of Latu and Galvin both being at the club long term. Good thing for the club is Galvin’s contract is up before Latu. So if Galvin bails, we can move swiftly on Latu. If Galvin stays, which I’m doubting, but you never know, then I suppose we could offer Latu a contract, but he won’t stick around. There will be clubs in need of a 7.

If Galvin moves to the backrow (where I think he belongs) we can keep both.

That said, the most likely scenario is Galvin kicking stones about a move like that and moving elsewhere

I hope Benji gives Latu some time in the halves off the bench this year, moving Galvin to lock, and Galvin gets a taste for it.

Dreaming, as if Galvin and that pond scum manager will accept a lock forwards wage over a halves?!?

At this stage in his career he either gets 7-800k at another club to play halves, or the same here to play lock/halves. I think its down the track where the big money difference will be, by then most clubs will see him as a backrower anyway.

Timing of spend to development stage is critical in the cap balance. We have made out big halves spend on Luai, which means his halves partner will be on less.

Strong clubs can lose gun players and still be successful. A desperate spend could leave the roster overall weaker.
