At the end of the day we saved a million he's got to find a million and looks likely to play CC

It is a curious situation. I mean the Titans would need to move on multiple players to fit him in, Cows the same and Souths would need the Burgess medical retirement dollars which could be months away. Realistically speaking his only 2 options are to come back and start dialogue with us (which is probably unlikely) or to play out his contract with the Roosters in 2020 and then sign elsewhere for 2021 and beyond. I think he'll probably see out his contract and then sign with Souths from 2021 onwards.

It's interesting how some people are calling us the fools. Maybe in some alternate universe. We handled the situation well.

A big thing to pass 1mill.I think he was more interested than people think. His managers probably expected other clubs to be able to find the money to match it. We don't look like fools they do.

The thing that erks me the most is there was no contract signed or imminent signing as many claimed was on the way.

From the start this always looked like LM wasn’t happy with rooster offer and was leveraging the market to up it. Plus on social he had lots of statements about being contracted for next year and no rush.

Even if he starts in reggies he won’t stay there long. Once he plays well and everything is Rossy he will sign up and all forgotten. Obvious

Well that’s my worst nightmare.

If he ends up staying at the Rorters every try he scores, every goal he kicks, my smart arse roosters mates will be into me with - that could have been for the Tigers.
I am constantly having to put up with their smug comments. And they are my best mates!!!!!

I know nothing other than what I read here so shaker of salt is a given.
I reckon the Dollars were very enticing for young Mitchell but the reality of expectation was too much.
Great player in a team of greats but how would he fare as a force to lift and lead others? Anybody here reckons he's a leader? Maybe Maguire's challenge was just too great.

Not sure why you'd get off on being right about the club missing a bit name, regardless of whether you "wanted it to happen" or not. Weird flex TBH.

How could you possibly know that I'm getting off on it?
For the last time I WAS IN FAVOUR OF HIM BEING SIGNED!!!!!!

You guys read your own narritive into things.
You want someone to take your frustrations out on and it seems like it's me.

Please answer this question; "If he didn't want to come to the Tigers why did he give the club the runaround for nearly a month". He acts like a spoilt self entitled with very little respect.

That's a question for him not me, how could I possibly know.

If he did want to be here, why isn't he?

You seem to know everything else, so why not that?

What concerns me the most is we offered a player a massive contract, the position he wanted, the only club offering him a contract & we are still in the Sydney area where he currently lives but he still could not commit.
Are we really that bad of a club ??
In most sports if you wanted to change clubs for more money or position etc.. you would take whatever was available as you can only play for so long in your career.. As a professional its a privilege to be getting paid to play the sport you love and I for one would play for any team if the right money and opportunity was given to me..
It just makes me think we are still a club that is only there as a back up for players until someone of quality takes the plunge to joins us. I know you don't want to pay overs but do we pay overs just to get the first player over the line or do we sit back and hope our luck changes.. :man-shrugging: :man-shrugging:

Who's the idiot really? The only party offering it, or the party turning it down...

Very rare in life to get offered a mill. dollars a year to play footy for four years. It's a pretty simple answer for me.

I often feel hypocritical with my comments. On one hand I feel we have the right leaders and are moving forward. On the other hand we continue to miss the mark. My frustration is the same as yours: why do we not attract talent? Are we that bad? We finish mid table with an average roster; we are financial; we have a COE on its way. But still we can’t get the talent on the paddock. Is our recruitment team useless? Do we have no negotiating skills? I just don’t know. Why would Mitchell consider Gold Coast a better proposition?
What I do know is we desperately need a forward that others fear and a couple of backs who can create or finish chances.
I agree - I’d throw heaps at a genuine rising but established star. But not washed up hacks .

Gold coast have Big Mal. That's it. Personally I don't think much of him (a great player sure, but not a great coach or administrator) but that could be just me. Qlders may think higher of him, and he does have an inside track to the Australian team (AJ Brimson in the Aus Nines for example, that surely was Mal's good word, and a big factor imo in why he possibly re-signed).

As @hsvjones said, we just need that one big fish, then outside perception will (hopefully) start to change.

IMO I don’t think the reason is all that deep. The guy just has the wrong people around him.

That idea that we miss out because of facilities or finals appearances alone doesn’t fit the bill for me.

We have had a bad run with recruiting coaches. Our management are to blame for this and while I don’t follow closely I think we have changed a number of them. The decision to recruit Ivan was a good one and I thought that was our turning point. Hindsight tells us Ivan was a mistake as were some of his coaching/recruiting decisions. But regardless at the time I thought it was a good decision.

Now we have Madge another good decision and I personally think we are on the right path, again.

We will recruit quality players and we will miss out on some. The sport is cyclic and our time will come again.

Bright side is at least we are not Sharks Or Parra fans. There was a reason why Ryan conducted his street talks in Parra!

It could be as simple this.

He has a contract for next year, why make a decision unless he has to.

If he waits 6-12 months, he'll have more than the one option on the table.

Now he tells us.
Far out, how come we were caught out in this mess???

Maybe, though he will likely have to put in a lot of work to mend the relationship with Roosters. It seemed he certainly succeeded in getting them offside. They may not be too keen to have him play for them for one more year then likely leave.

Still though, the whole bad relationship with Roosters could be a red herring?

Tigers on a hiding to nothing;

-don't make a play for him (Why aren't we after him)
-pull his offer coz he's unwilling to commit (Why aren't the tigers patient)

This is true. The risk for Latrell is that by doing so, he is giving up around $400K for 2020 and if Roosters play hard ball with him and send him to Reggies (I cant see it happening) his value may drop. Also based on Fittlers previous comments, I cant see Latrell playing SOO in 2020 which is another $120K blown.

Contrary to what everyone is saying, if the kid was only motivated by money - he would have signed the Tigers deal.

If his motivation was money, he would have signed with the Tigers. if his motivation was to be successful and win premierships, he would have accepted the Roosters offer. There has to be something else. IMO that something else is he has agreed to terms with the Bunnies and they are waiting for the ducks to line up to announce it.
