Latrell Mitchell Contract Discussion

Webster should submit that effort for a Walkley award. Despite his attempt to put the Grubbitohs in the frame for LM all he managed was to list reasons why he would be unlikely to sign with them.

I don’t know guys, while I’m hoping Latrell is just sorting out his future etc, can’t help but think he truly wants to be at Souths, Bennett, rusty, the aboriginal heritage, Inglis on the coaching staff.
I know a lot of cards have to fall in place for him to go to souths, but it’s a worry when they have burgess payed out and not included in their cap at such a timely manner.
I’m not very knowledgeable when it comes to souths player contracts, anyone know exactly what cards must fall into place for souths to land LM?

I cant understand the overwhelming frustration lately because we haven't signed LM...if he signs, good for us,if he doesn't,I don't really care...Im going to wait until after Xmas and have another look at whats going on with preseason just before the trials start...at least I will enjoy Xmas and let Madge do his work..Im sure if there are any signings done we will know when the squad is announced...
AND yes Iam a true supporter of the club, but cant understand how people can become so sarcastic and negative in regards to 99% of this crap is speculation and innuendo..

Careful TT you’ll be branded a fan of mediocrity.

What’s the point in asking. Has any information from anyone, and I’m talking journos and forum “insiders”, been of any use in retrospect?

I only ask as I have spoken to a player from the Sharks who I do work for now and then, he basically said Latrell will go to souths, I’m not claiming he is a valid source, but with all that’s been said lately I was just curious of how it could even be possible.

On this forum, anyone branding someone content with mediocrity is pot/kettle.

I’m always curious to know what separates somebody who accepts mediocrity, and finishing 9th to someone who doesn’t. What is the supporter who “doesn’t accept it” doing any differently? They still turn up every week like masochists, the same way everyone else does.

If LM signs with us for one year and one year only, it will put this club backwards and undo all the good work Madge is trying to do.

If we can't get him for at least 3, and backend the deal a little to entice him to stay the full length of the contract, then we move on and try for someone else, for 2021 if need be,

There’s a silver lining to signing him for one year. It means if he re-signs for 2021, we know the club has made a good impression on him and like he likes the place. If we sign him for 3 or 4 years, naysayers will still say he signed with us because he had no other options, and it would constantly feed the paranoia that any moment he could do what Matterson did.

I've just got the worst case scenario in my head, where he signs for us for 2020, then the very next day he signs with Rabbits form 2021. How bad would that be...

Would give us an extra million dollars to spend for 2021, so not as bad as you might think.

In that situation, it would possibly be salvaged if at the end of the 2020, he publicly praised us and said that he wishes he wasn't leaving. I have a tendency to over-analysis things, you guys might have noticed.

Bottom line is, Mitchell could be the icing on the cake, but so could Talau, Momo, Twal, MBye, Luelua, Thompson, Brooks, or any of our players. I think Madge has got us finally going in the right direction, and with Mitchell or not, we can make a good shake of it next year and a Top 4 finish is not out of reach.

Great to see Mitchell end up with us, but maybe he's not ready to be that All-Star player we would need him to be right now, just like Teddy and Woodsy weren't ready to carry it all on their shoulders at the time.

I just know I’m pretty much over it now. Even if we signed him tomorrow, I’d be happy, but it’d feel very underwhelming. Whereas a month ago, I’d have considered it the biggest moment (outside 05) in the club’s history.

Make him a minimum 2 year offer, no holding the baby for Souths assholes.

Nup, minimum 3 years

Maybe we should be going for Arrow and Walker
That will throw a cat amongst the Bunnies
Or is that Pigeons

For gods sake not Walker. Souffs would be happy if we signed Walker, Mitchell would slot straight in.

I don’t think we should try and back him into a corner and make him sign a long term deal, if he says he only wants to sign 1 year then we should immediately and permanently withdraw the offer.
2021 will allow us to make some great signings, 2020 will allow our current roster of players to step up, we do have lot of talent, the problem at the moment is where to put them.

Without being privy to anything thought we were a good chance until the Burgess money came through. With his family being mad South's fans and the Roosters cutting him loose the likelihood now seems slim. Would have been great, but is not the be all and end all and have had plenty of time now to accept that money may not be motivation enough in this case.

After reading the article, does anyone else feel there will be a “Welcome to Alex Johnston” thread starting on Monday after Latrelle signs with Souths?

They will want to off load him and we will probably be dumb enough to pick him up.
