Latrell Mitchell Contract Discussion

Everyone keeps banging on about how will be able to make all these great signings for 2021. Anyone who is off contract at the end of 2020 and available in 2021 is already up for grabs and can be legally offered a contract. So far the only one we have signed for 2021 is the young guy from Parra who isn't even at NRL level. Maybe someone can enlighten me on who all these players are that we will be chasing for 2021.

Good point by Andrew Webster in the SMH.

“......Given the size of the offers from the Tigers and Roosters, would the NRL be prepared to register a contract with a base salary that is considerably less? Under the game’s rules, a contract can’t be registered if the player is being paid well below his market value.....”

So technically he can’t sign with Souths for less than his market value..... unless the NRL change to rules and allow it to occur...

But trust the NRL to make a exception for South Sydney.

The NRL will do anything to keep Souths happy

I don't truly believe Souths get any preferential outcomes compared to Tigers. What is the evidence?

Burgess? The full slary cap return for a pre existing injury. They can use whatever terminology they want but Burgess allready had that injury.

Souths have the 2nd biggest membership base. Nrl will make them happy for sure.

I doubt it!!!!

Don't hold your breath mate, and don't expect miracles, you will probably come back to the signings of Johnston and Gagai

Agree

But maybe there is the chance that if you sign someone after Nov 1 2021 for 2022 you might get them releases for 2021

Decision days away as Roosters tell Latrell Mitchell we want you gone by January 1
From Fox Sports
The plot thickens now there asking if the Rorters will pay part of his contract if he goes to Souffs.
I think our WTF signing will now be
Wow That's Fantastic signing.

This may have been raised previously but Souths having lost 2 Burgess brothers, John Sutton from their starting 17 as well as back up forwards Turner & Britt so would seriously be in need of NRL standard forwards but other than possibly signing Arrow have not bought anyone of note. Given they have all their backline positions covered, presume Doueihi first choice fullback ahead of AJ, plus halves sorted if Walker re-signs, Gagai & Roberts centres and Campbell & AJ wingers, not to mention Burns and a PNG fulback they signed then Souths have no real pressing need of LM. Given their lack of forward depth you would think this would be a more pressing issue than signing LM.

Yep. This. As i mentioned yesterday. Their pack is worse than ours. And the backline is full of contracted quality players. They surely realise they need to spend on 1-2 decent forwards for next season, not swap one fullback for one who's ten tiems the price?

If he dose go to scoffs and pushes 1maybe 2 other indigenous players out and takes a pay cut !
Surely the indigenous community would think he’s a spoiled Brat, turning down hundreds of thousands and upsetting overs in his path!

This is the same club where GI was getting paid a huge TPA from the local indigenous legal service. Not sure if they understand what helping indigenous people means. Looks like taking from them for mine.

Am I the only one who don’t see Rabbitohs as a threat whatsoever, it seems nearly 100% Cody Walker will re-sign , if Arrow has half a brain he’ll sign with them too..... where do they get there $ from for 2020 or 2021 knowing Cam Murray will be coming off contract November 1st next year and they need to start signing forwards and am nearly positive Murray will be getting a huge upgraded contract

Whereas, we’re offering 1mil a year and his preferred position

The most reliable person on this forum had said Latrell personally showed interest and at one point verbally agreed to join, so I don’t think it’s so far fetched that he does want to come here

The forum is going into panic mode big time, everyone just take a deep breath!

I hope that your post was a bit of sarcasm, because if that happens Madge and Pascoe will cause a riot.

I reckon there is an excellent chance we'll take Johnston of them if LM goes there.

Will be some salary cap wizardry if Souths can find the money at this point for 2020. Trel will be at tigers training jan 6th.

You say this, yet when is he making his decision? An announcement would be needed in a day or two

Why? He’s contracted for next season. And training doesn’t kick off fulltime til next year. Let it breathe

Gonna have to pull you up, SF, nobody has been sourcing any info on where ‘Trell would be to start training this year and going off every single piece of amateur journalism lately he won’t be anywhere other than Chooks HQ grovelling to Unca Nick about how much he loves it there... only to agree to play fb for Souths in 2020. He would need to be announced before Q&A. Disclaimer: do not know the manager now as he has changed camps !
