Roosters going for a three-peat.
You would assume they would rather keep a top 3 player from their roster to achieve that in 2020, than grant an early release to Souths.
LM could also have that three-peat in mind which could be a reason as to why he has ignored our offer despite the money thrown at him.
To be remembered as one of the greats in any sports, you need that type of achievement to stand out. Premierships/Championships are everything in sports legacy.

Latrell or not, I don't for a second think easts will win 3 in a row.

No way. Cronk is a gaping hole to fill. They’ll be thereabouts as usual, but can’t see them winning it.

I reckon he is one of the most overrated players in the game. They are going to be a threat depending on if Latrell stays or not.

Always a threat with or without Cronk and Mitchell. Keary calls the shots.

They can even lose Mitchell and be a threat.

Yep, that's what I said

If the deal is not already done then we need to cut all ties and move on
Take up a few of the best off contract players on 12 month deals and make them work for a longer contract
Big clean out in 2021 and we try and start again with a vault full of money

Nooo!
So we have money now. We have maybe 2 players worth 700K. Next two years we could be trying to retain someone. We should do the exact opposite. Get someone we know is good and frontload that contract while we have the cash. Then in the next 2-3 years we will actually have the cash to build the team.

Yeah, could get another Matterson, pay him huge dollars upfront and then be forced to let him go when the stone kicking starts, as he demands more cash for the following season/s.

Seriously watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6XAPnuFjJc&t=496s
it explains true motivation far better then I can.

But too that. Offer Latrell 1.3 million the first season then a 3 year contract of 750k. Why, this buys Latrell a house. The guy is dizzy with money and offers and he has traveled to other clubs going; facilities not as good as Easts, culture worse, not making the top 8, etc.

When Josh Reynolds came here, we sold him how it is. Were rebuilding, we need an older player to guide the younger players. Come join our team and play this key role.

Latrell we need a similar narrative. He is thinking Souths because they offer GI and himself to be a leader, a rolemodel, something more then a footballer. Offer more money upfront, explain that he can either get used to the high life or have some assets behind him when he retires. Explain where he is strong and where he is weak as a player and how Madge will take him to the next level.

^ notice how the above sounds really weak. That's why we won't get Latrell. That's also why I suspect Souths will sign him for 500k or the Roosters will take him back for 600k. Yes we will still be ready for him to sign for 1M and he will take less money to go to a club that offers him culture, development and a good playing group....

how do we be that club?

I think somewhere on here said the club told him he would be the marque player at the club. If lm doesn't want the responsibility of being the player to drive us to the finals he shouldn't be asking for $$$ he is. We don't want ash taylor signing

Couldn't get past the first minute or two, as I just can't listen to this sort of stuff. I am always for bottom up approach.

But it doesn’t work! ??? Not really. On narcissistic people , It will work . But not for the reasons you think . Ie. the desire to be better than everyone around them , to earn more than everyone around them to have more than everyone around them etc. it’s about feeling superior.
Most people just want to pay the bills, feel valued and contribute to something.
So the incentive is to have more control over their own existence , rather than here’s a bag of cash now STFU.
It gets old real quick .

From the DT

Rabbitohs coach Wayne Bennett has insisted Latrell Mitchell will not be joining South Sydney.

The Rabbitohs have been tipped to be Mitchell’s new home following his highly-publicised falling out with the Roosters.

Dane Gagai and Alex Johnston have been mooted as the potential Rabbitohs players to make way for Mitchell to arrive at Redfern.

Bennett secured a blue-chip signing for 2021 this week when Gold Coast Titans star Jai Arrow committed to South Sydney to become Sam Burgess’ replacement.

And he reckons that was the signing he was chasing, not Mitchell despite speculation South Sydney wants the Kangaroos gun.

“We won’t be signing Latrell,” Bennett told Blindside.

“We have enough centres. I am happy with Braidon Burns and James Roberts.

“I needed a forward to replace Sam.”

Bennett has played ducks and drakes with player signings before.

Earlier this year he insisted Roberts would not be leaving the Broncos to sign with South Sydney, only for the switch to happen weeks later.

Bennett later admitted he lied so the Rabbitohs could conduct negotiations without relentless speculation.

Wayne is gunning for a premiership in the next 2 years before he heads back north - no secret. Shane Richardson & Rusty don't allow him the same impunity that he's enjoyed at the Broncos - he's had to change his style. Wayne won't hesitate to leave Souths in tears like Newcastle/St. George if things don't go right

Edit: I don't think they'll place well this year

They have big wraps on Adam Douehi who is a future FB option. Bennett may be foxing but they are light on forwards.

Douehi is the man.
