The NRL’s most talked about deal will be done on Monday with Latrell Mitchell set to sign a two-year deal with South Sydney.

Having knocked back South Sydney’s first official offer on Friday, Mitchell agreed to become a Rabbitoh after receiving an upgraded deal worth an estimated $1.6 million.

From same article... Seems no compo for the chooks...

Following a dramatic 48-hours of back-and-forth negotiations with Souths - Mitchell confirmed he was released by the Roosters with the club backing down on a threat to block the move.

Demanding a payment of $127,000 from bitter rivals South Sydney, the Roosters denied Mitchell’s first release request on Sunday morning and ordered the centre to report to Moore Park for Roosters training on Monday morning.

Mitchell was also warned that he would “breach his contract” if he failed to show.

A series of calls from Mitchell’s management team convinced the Roosters to drop the compensation demand and release the point scoring whiz from the final year of his deal.

so essentially if you hold out long enough you'll get what you want.......clubs really have no power anymore

The Souths version of the Pom / insider said the heavies were called in...South people who are in business with Politis asked him to drop it.

No doubt in return for something elsewhere...

hahahaha sounds like a soap opera....the heavies I have in my head that make me think of souths certainly aren't business suit wearing corporates.....more like toothless warbs trying to jump the methadone line to get theirs first....

Souths have James Packer and al his contacts on board mate...there is a reason the NRL turn a blind eye to them and Easts.

I still don't get why people are whinging for the first time in forever we were linked to a huge name. Didnt get him oh well bit we are in the talk which means we arent as far away as people think.

It's no huge achievement. 2 players wanted out and one medically retired freed cap space. There was no great cap managment strategy.

We got lucky. NRL could have left us hanging with Mats.
If we were really concerned with cap management. We would front load a few players this year and go into 2021 with a war chest to spend.

I think that's going to happen . Just to what extent . Also who's off contract at the end of 21? Anyone of note ?

Now that you mentioned it, LM is off contract at the end of 2021.

Latrell has gone against everything he initially asked for, if he signs with the bunnies (which it looks like he will)
I hope his career goes south (Pun Intended)
Tigers offered him everything he wanted, with the addition of a true potential legacy.
Our boys may not have the accolades most brag about, but our boys Have heart, hopefully that’s enough to get the W against the bunnies when we meet them.
Our tigers forum may often dispute and critique heavily, but it shows we have heart.
Good riddance Latrell, be sure to wear that red nose proudly.

This whole process has laid bare the many problems in the NRL contract process. Where there is smoke there is undoubtedly fire. If negotiations and the balancing of books SEEM questionable then they most likely ARE. Greenberg and his bunch of cronies are very lucky that we keep following the game when it is patently obvious that it is full of dishonesty, backroom deals and favouritism.

Latrell Mitchell has been released from his contract with the Roosters: https://easts.website/LMReleased

Hats off to South's - great signing. Got him cheap for this year in regard to the cap and now it's all up to Latrell to earn his worth. It will either motivate him or if not South's havnt committed long term.

It's such a shame that they will not be playing finals footy this year

A real bummer 😏

Great signing for sure, but there is no chance on this earth it was on the cheap or anything like that which is being reported.

No-one but no-one rejects a guaranteed mega offer for 4 years to take a 2 year deal at a far lower salary with conditions attached, especially when your whole career might only last another 8 years.

Call it shenanigans, call it creative accounting, call it creative TPAs.

Whatever it is, kudos to Souths.

I have a mate who is a genuine insider at Roosters. Dont worry I have ZERO inside information (although I tried hard).

Day 1 of this circus I contacted him to get the inside information but all he would tell me was "mate you dont want him, he's a dog".

My mate was wrong I still wanted him at the Tigers, but now we have missed out I hope he was right and he starts a rot at Souffs.

I was only referring to cheap in terms of the cap space. Who knows what other incentives are involved. No doubt his new manager earned his keep.
