The desperation around here is nuts.

I know, imagine these same folks waiting for a girl or boy crush to return their text message.

Wasted energy. Either he comes or he doesn't, when he does or doesn't. Whether we find out tomorrow or next week, he can't play a game for us or anyone else until February trials.

Well, following the WT has returned nothing but heartache for a long time now. As fans we have seen (in no particular order):

A. Coaches promise so much and not deliver, only to be fired usually within a year or two
B. Our Chairperson being betrayed from within by our own Board
C. Our CEO getting busted for salary cap cheating
D. We had one of the best players of the comp come through, and after two years of standing by him whilst he was injured, he then jumped ship along with most of our other quality players, all at the same time, after they strung us along
E. Our replacement "best" players pretty much all failed miserably, with but one exception, who just up and left us one year into a 3 year deal anyway
F. We have had a few "must-win" matches which would have propelled us into the finals, only to be smashed each and every time (sometime even at one of home grounds in front of sizeable home crowds)

We finally now have some positives, signing some hopefully great youth with massive potential, a coach who hopefully wants to stick around, a Chairperson who hopefully can really make a difference in the business world...

(Edit: Plus a new training facility via a "Centre of Excellence" being built - a massive plus)

We are linked to one of the best players in the whole comp, and at times we seem to be perhaps be the only horse in the race... if we can land this guy, we have a real chance to actually become a contender, something we haven't really been in almost a decade. And we may not get another opportunity like this, where we have a shot at such a massive player with not much competition for him. This is huge, this could be the could be biggest thing to ever happen to our club...

So yeah, I'm nervous. I'm checking social media every five minutes or so (commitments allowing) hoping to see the "Breaking News..." It's not life or death, but the dream is so close now... so close... it would be so cruel for us to miss out again...

Sounds to me like he has our offer. Is considering it but is going to take his time and see if another stronger club comes to the party.

Wouldnt be surprised if he sat out a season and signed with someone in 2021. Nothing would surprise me with this situation.

I learned long ago, that when youre looking for that dream car or house or whatever, you usually miss out on a few. But another always pops up, and when it does, it turns out you're pretty happy with how things work out. I really don't see much of a difference with Mitchell. Feet up folks, grab a beer and cross your fingers if you need to. There's nothing you can do to change the the end result. Typing compelling reasons as to why he should have signed or why he hasn't is probably only gonna add to your angst. Enjoy the weekend if you can. :v:

Wise words mate, good advice.

Good post! Don’t feel you have to defend yourself. Most of us are nervous and anxious. Those that are critical are just trying to inflate their own tyres!

Sounds like the Roosters want this sorted A-Sap ( going off the SMH article) 14K a week quickly adds up.
LM’s manager doesn’t seem to be in too much of a rush.

How would we know if he met with us while he was in Sydney before flying to Townsville? Why are we all presuming an announcement would be made while he's away on holidays with his family (and hence rather uncontactable)?

We all have to realise that of course we're not his first choice either. We never could be. He's leaving the most successful club of the last decade to potentially join the worst club of the last decade, who also have the worst facilities. Money and opportunity are our only attractions. If a successful club offers him the same money and opportunity as us we're in trouble

You know what, we run 9th most years, 9th! never last or anywhere near last! We’re not that far off being a perennial top 8 team and a successful club. It would only take a one or two elite players like Mitchell to tip us over that edge. We have a premiership winning coach, some great young guys coming through and state of the art training facilities only about 12-18 months away.

Sure, we’ve had a really dry run of finals success over the last decade, but anyone with eyes can see that we are a club that is heading upwards. We are far from the worst club in the NRL. If Mitchell thinks he is too good for us and can’t see the future here then good luck to him elsewhere. We don’t need or want players whose hearts aren’t in playing for this team.

I understand that one of the options for LM is to stay on the same salary and play reserves.
If this is the case, he perhaps prefers playing reserves to join WT:white_frowning_face:

He wants a chance at fullback so that he can prove that he is a better fullback than Tedesco.

if he signs then AWESOME! if he doesn't then oh well OK - it is what it is - 48 hours till announcement? either way? :joy:

***I still have reservations about his game day attitude (call it ego or arrogance)*** but hey that's why there's a coach - I am sure Madge will straighten him out...

Try attitude... Just attitude

I’d just like to add that Milford and Moylan are available . Different types of players , but much cheaper options . Hopefully this news puts pressure on a decision to be made

Wouldn't be surprised if the Milford rumour starts up again now that Croft is on his way to Brisbane.

get some young talent in a ranks a go

The one clue for me is Lee Hagipantelis' comments the other day. If he was panicked it certainly was worded perfectly to lead us to believe it's not.

The Tigers, meanwhile, have stepped up their pursuit of Latrell. The joint-venture outfit has tabled a three-year deal from 2021, which will effectively become a four-year offer commencing next season once the Roosters officially grant him a release. Given the premiers are paying more than $14,000 a week to a player they no longer want, they are keen to get the NSW and Australian centre off their books.

In the next week or so we should be able to sit down with the Tigers and discuss their offer.

Latrell Mitchell's manager Wade Rushton
“The Tigers have shown great interest and they have put forward an offer they want to discuss with us,” said Mitchell’s manager, Wade Rushton.

“In the next week or so we should be able to sit down with them and discuss their offer.”

The Tigers continue to reshape their roster with a number of key signings and re-signings. The club will soon announce the recruitment of Luciano Leilua to fill the void left by the departure of Ryan Matterson. The Dragons had at one point contemplated a Leilua-Matterson swap, although the latter instead returned to Parramatta.

The Tigers have exacted some revenge on the Eels with the signing of young gun Stefano Utoikamanu, who is expected to make his NRL debut next season. Utoikamanu has signed with the Tigers for three years from 2021, but they will accommodate him immediately if he is granted an early release. The Eels could lose another promising prospect in NSW under-18s star Trey Mooney,

who is being circled by Canberra.
