Mitchell tried playing the Roosters for more money and it backfired on him. The Bunnies were definitely his next best choice but that didn't work out either. Then a couple of teams went cold leaving him with just two, and he's hardly kicking the door down to come here is he? I'd rather spend the money on people who actually want to be here. It would be a good result if the Cows gave him an offer he couldn't refuse and then Holmes decided the Tigers would be a good place to land. Dream on...

Why would Holmes be better? Hasnt played RL for 18 months, completely wrong build now and for mine wasnt that special when he left.

Not necessarily better, but more committed and better value for money in my opinion.

I have to admit, this has crossed my mind as well. If we are just “the best of what’s left,” what chance of him fulfilling his contract term?
Still, I’m gonna be pissed if he goes elsewhere

Not having a go at you Tiger Steve but I keep seeing this argument that he will just leave like Matterson. Dont people see that the extension of that argument is that the Tigers can never have (assume dont deserve?) elite players, because they will just leave?

Its ridiculous.

Also the lame argument that we just want players who "want to be here". We are going to be attracting players from a VERY shallow pool of players who either grew up as Tigers fans or who play for the Titans (only club I can think of with as long a period without success).

Im sick of not being successful like the top clubs, its time to do what they do and make things happen. Look at what Souffs & Bulldogs have done historically when they have been rubbish. BUY GOOD PLAYERS and build a successful team around them.

I swear our fans are conditioned to failure and frightened of what it will take to succeed.

@Plato - I think Holmes will go to the Canadian ESL team for good $$$. He has already been seen to be a bit of a dream chased, I imagine they will sell the idea of being there at the start to Holmes and he will probably take it. That will leave Mitchell with the decision between us and Cowboys. Will then depend on what are the press button issues that he will decide on. Lifestyle vs convenience of being still in Sydney and relatively close to Taree. Who knows how he will jump.

As an aside- I always considered Magpies / Balmain and now WT had a pretty good indigenous engagement and participation in the clubs playing ranks. When did this change? I'm amused to see other clubs touted for their indigenous engagement as against WT. Just curious on people's thoughts. If we have fallen off, we should pick it up again.

Not sure if VH will end up with the Wolfpack they are allowed 1 Marquee signing and SBW's got that tied up for the next 2 years then salary cap restrictions come in not sure what they are

YOu are allowed 2 and I believe there is seperate compensation if you attract a player from a rival code, which is why the interest in SBW & VH.

Based on? Why would he be more committed? he walked out on a contract at Sharks. He is mucking NQ around as well by the looks of it. Based on what we have seen LM seems a more straight ahead bloke.

Value for money...based on what figure? Equal money with Mitchell? A bloke who hasnt played for more than years by the time the season rolls around, is the wrong build is better value than the NRL leading pointscorer in 2019? Mitchell has played 1st grade at 1, 3 & 6. VH is a winger who wants to play FB (for the $). Couldnt nail down the fullback spot at Sharks.

@Glenn5150

Holmes is coming off a failure and if he plays NRL again will have something to prove to himself if no-one else. I've never met either of them so could be way off the mark, but Mitchell is a more laid back character who would be just as happy milking chickens or whatever farmers do. On the same money I'd rather have Holmes. And I wouldn't be sitting back waiting for Mitchell to make up his mind either - make him a reasonable offer and ask for an answer by Friday or we move on. We have money to spend, and like someone said the pool of decent available players is getting smaller.

Lot of money for a winger (VH). Could get JAC for a lot less.

So you'd give LM until friday or the deal is off the table? Fair enough and then how long would you give his replacement Valentine Holmes? You know, the guy currently in a NY training squad with his family relocated in the US, the guy that has supposedly an agreement with NQ. How long do you give that bloke?

Which decent players have signed recently with rival clubs that we have missed out on?

Each to their own, Im glad you are not making recruitment decisions for the club.

Apparently 'get deadly' is a hugely common and popular phrase amongst indigenous Australians. It's not as bad as it literally sounds.

Hey Glenn, I agree. I want us to chase him and I want us to get him. I’m just saying if he’s not truly invested in us there’s more chance he’ll go if he get an offer he perceive as better. We need to make sure we have success so players don’t feel that way.

@Glenn5150

Personally I wouldn't hire either one. Just saying that the Cowboys have the choice of two marquee players, and of the two I hope they sign Mitchell, leaving Holmes swinging. I would favour cheaper players with potential over either of them, and Thompson has settled into fullback really well. Agree re JAC, I'd love to get him back on the wing.

There's nothing wrong with the name of the cause, it's geared toward Aboriginal kids and as such named with their lingo in mind.

Any chance the cowboys gave Mitchell an extended flight to Fiji???

He's not in Fiji. The vid he posted was of Townsville. was supposed to be a joke i think.

Thompson is not a first grade fullback and he never will be.

No, but he is trying.....
Is there anyone in our team who you actually like?

No awards for trying unfortunately.

Yes I like several.

@Plato I don't think Mitchell would be complacent when he wants to prove he is a top level fullback, something he has not had a chance to show in his recent years at Rooster. Make no mistake, is that he wants to show that he is just as good a fullback as Tedesco has shown.

@Newtown

No risk Mitchell would star in that roll. He has all of the skills and what he doesn't know he would learn in a hurry. Even better if he could have learnt from Inglis, which is what he probably wanted in the first place. It probably just narks me a little that we were never his first choice.

I don’t wanna be that guy who brags about info but I only sometimes get info from a few sources as I work in the sporting industry

And from what I’ve been told by a close friend of Latrell is that he’ll go where the money is - which makes me more confident he’ll sign with us assuming we have more cap room and are offering a 4 year deal

Wants to support his family, and I think the reason he took up the cowboys meeting was to set a bidding war between the two parties - and I think that got the tigers to offer him a new contract of 4 years instead of 3 (that’s just an assumption)

I’m confident that we will sign him
