Why is the forum so obsessed with buying players who would be cheap, even when we have money for a star. Someone the other day wanted to buy 34 year old Matt Prior because he'd be cheap, even though we have 5 million in the cap for 2021. 5 million dollars, so lets go shopping in the Reject Shop.
Couldn’t agree more. It’s bonkers.
Not to mention that what we would be paying for Mitchell IS cheap!
Glad you don't come to the supermarket with me.
C'mon Russ...he's not being paid overs...$800K in the first year and $100k increase each year after is not a big salary for that sort of player....Reynolds on $750k, Matulino was on $800k and Mbye the same (maybe more)...Mitchell is a bargain in comparison

As a player and a person, seems to want everything given to him with little effort. if he was better than that, Roosters would be trying harder, its that simple.
Amazing
But pretty much on the mark.
How so? He’s an absolutely fabulous player who wants to play fullback. He’s making an enormous decision regarding his future and it’s his right to do whatever he has to in order to secure his and his families future. If we miss out on Mitchell it isn’t his fault.
Mitchell appears to me to be a 22 year old guy under intense media scrutiny who is trying to make the best decision he can. The negative comments about him on this forum are completely without merit and unwarranted. I can’t recall him publicly saying anything about the roosters or anyone else in a negative way.
Some of our club legends could learn a thing or two..
OK - I had my two cents worth - now your having yours.
1 It was said at one million dollars he was cheap. I said I didn't think one million is cheap...not saying what he was worth but saying one million is not cheap. Is it Avo? To my mind one million is not cheap for anything.
2 I have pretty much stayed out of this fiasco because I don't really care if we sign him or not. If pushed I would lean to not. LM may well turn out to be the best FB the game has ever seen or he may well be a big dud as a FB - only time will tell. It is whether one is willing to take a risk or not - obviously the Tigers are willing to take that risk. If they sign him I am not going to give up my membership or go and sob in my pillow.
3 I am saying (I will spell it out) If it was me I would not sign him because of the risk. He does appear to me also to want everything - he is an untried FB for that cost, yes he has played there but.... at the moment is he as good as Teddy or Turbo - I don't think so but he still wants the same money. Will he be able to organise a teams defence? untried again. I also don't like his on field attitude and how he fades in and out of games (million $ players do not do that), snaps far too often and gives penalties away too easily. Also that game he played for Australia wasn't bad, it was diabolical.
4 SO, I am sure you and others will not agree with anything I have said, that is fair enough, you and others are entitled to your opinion as well. This is a Forum and everyone is entitled without being strung up or am I on the wrong tack here.
5 Personally I don't think he has anything to teach any Tigers Legends (i.e. Farah, Benji and Rowdy, don't think we could include anyone else) - however I do think he could probably spend the rest of his life learning off them.
6 As far as his signing goes - it is just ridiculous all these scenarios people are coming up with. He could be signed to us, someone else or nobody at this stage - only time will tell. I am proud of the club which has so far produced NO leaks, and the professional way it is being run currently.
Hi Russell - I understand there is a risk to his signing (there is a risk to every signing) but he has more ability than anyone in our team by a considerable margin. $1m is a lot, no question about it, but that's the going rate for a marquee player and it will be fantastic for the overall perception of the club. Greg Inglis wasn't a fullback before he went to Souths and that turned out ok didnt it? It also brought more high profile players to the club.
As for the club legends comment, can't recall Mitchell going to the media to complain about his contract in the week leading up to the biggest game in years... Rowdy did, to Danny Weidler no less. Perhaps Rowdy could learn a thing or two from Mitchell.
Respect your opinion Avo - all good.
However I must defend Rowdy - Mitchell is 22 and basically at the start of his career. Rowdy was looking at his last contract. There is no more loyal player to a club (any club) than Rowdy is to the Tigers - so he did not want to play for another club against the Tigers and because of his "hands on" business the ESL was not an option. Apparently he had talks with the Tigers to no avail because of money available and cap restrictions - personally I think he had no option. I would have gone to the media as well.
Rowdy has more than bled for this club - he has given his all for many years, even after suffering horrific injuries. It is well documented that he took a pay cut to help them stay under the cap. In his last year he wasn't asking for heaps of dough - he just wanted a reasonable amount - what was it 150-175k (not much more than some palookas get in CC).
After what he gave, what he went through I think the way he was treated was appalling. I don't think he has anything to learn (certainly not from Mitchell) but I think whoever is responsible at the Club has a lot to learn.

You have missed the point.

I was saying a million dollars is not cheap for anything.
Personally I don't care if we got Mitchell for 5 cents or a million that was not my point. Think about it again.

Mate, I was picked up on a point that I didn't make - You went on about how much he is worth - I DON'T CARE how much he is worth.
I am relaxed - just disappointed when people misread a post.

If he wanted to come here he would of signed by now and stopping all this media rubbish because the longer this goes on the less desirable player he looks like... people saying he has been out of town etc.. that is rubbish as that's what player managers are for.. For me I think Souths will get him especially now that Sam R has gone elsewhere..
