"The latest rumour is that barring a change of heart from Wests Tigers, Latrell will be playing 2020 in the backline for North Sydney."

from the chookpen this morning-

If that’s true we have most likely give him the hurry up, which is fine, we move on to plan B, we can’t wait forever

Yep, no harm in putting some pressure back on the agent. We're in the rare position of being able to blow other clubs out of the water in terms of contract amount for 2018 so we definitely don't want to squander it by waiting around for too long. If he walks away as soon as a little pressure is applied back on him then he was never coming anyway.

@NT_Tiger - WT have had solid offer on table for a couple of weeks, LM and manager have been going around to other clubs being entertained and allowing those clubs to gain PR exposure when realistically they could not offer him either the amount of money and in most cases the position he wanted (fullback).

WT offer was there to take,, he hasnt- despite a visit to him by our management the other week in Taree (yes, I know bushfires) and is sub-consciously throwing our offer in our face (without saying it) by going anywhere else to look at jobs rather than WT. Sort of the old cliche 'ánywhere except Wests Tigers.....''.

Also we have to get rid of the entertaining of players who say either themselves or through their managers they dont like WT and dont want to play there. Recall Capewell, Arrow etc. OK if they say that, never offer them anything and if any media speculation occurs shut it down immediately.

Pride guys. We have to learn again to treasure it, promote it and not turn the other cheek to slights and things that are plain wrong.

This mess can be traced directly to what now looks like terrible misjudgement of LM's marketability by those advising him. He rejects a pretty decent "centre money" offer of $800k from the Chooks which results in them pulling the deal and, essentially, telling him to get lost! His representatives no doubt thought Latrell would be knocked over in the rush of other clubs offering him megabucks deals! He got only one formal offer-ours! Very embarrassing! No wonder they're hanging out hoping for more interest. This has the capacity to interfere with our pre season, if it hasn't done already, and needs to be sorted quickly. Hope our club has at least gently nudged Latrell's people to make up their minds-and soon!

Mitchell is due back after the Christmas break like Marshall being a Rep player early January so should't have any effect on pre-season really..

@tigerap If this *is* the case you tell LM's agent to stick it. If the person doesn't want to be there for that type of money, you find someone worth it who does. And if you can't, then you don't spend the money. You'd be selling out your culture.

Build from within. Grow the environment, make it a place worth being at. Advertise how good it is, get people within the place to demonstrate how good it is. Over time you'll get good players wanting to come here or the good players we've grown wanting to stay here.

It's frustrating but I think you're right. If we keep going the way we are, managing our cap better, sorting our admin right, fixing up the training facilities, then in a few years we will most likely be a very sought after club to play for. If a player of LM's high calibre came on the market then, and we had the cap space, it would be perfect timing. Is it too soon now?

Hopefully LM can see we are moving forward, and he joins us and we mive forward and upward together - if he succeeds with us (and I think he's too good not to) then his stature as one of the games elite will only rise.

I'm surprised he's interested in us because, yeah, I think it's too soon. The NRL is a big market and only hosts big companies. Change, proper, reliable change takes years in companies this size and we seem to still be transitioning on and off field with competitive results but constant changes in key positions.
There is a reason we haven't secured a marquee player in Australia, like, ever but that now we are starting to think it realistic.

I'll lick my shoe if he does come here ?

Does anyone know how much cap space the Titans have this year?

Is the story even feasible?

Not for 2020. Courier Mail reported back in August they didn't even have money in their cap to sign Alex Glenn. So, not sure how they'll fit in LM for 2020.

So there you go...

Unless Mal can convince Latrell to sign on from 2021 and spend the year at the Roosters (when they want him gone now), it ain't happening...

Still a one horse race for 2020 lads...

Same article Mal was quoted as saying the following;

“To be honest we only have $100,000 to spend in the salary cap — that’s all we have got,” Meninga said.

@2005magic pride is something that is unfortunately mostly lost in modern day sports - money replaces it.

thats why us fans are the life blood of any team out there, we have pride through thick and thin!

Wow! can't believe either party are wasting their time...I'm still confident we'll snag him...It's just his agent playing silly buggers

Mitchell is 22 going onto 23. Is he not mature enough to tell his agent what he wants, instead of letting his agent embarrassingly run him around? If Mitchell is not mature enough we have a problem Houston, especially if we sign him with the lack of maturity he is currently expressing..

Any 22 year old footballer I've ever met (and I've played a lot of football) is a dope - including myself at that age.

Not sure what maturity you expect from a kid who's hired someone who should know better to be the expert...in fairness to him, he's said nothing other than he'll have a chat to anyone who wants to have a chat with him. Most of the reports are media reading between the lines and creating stories from nothing.

He went to Taree to fight bushfires when all his Roosters mates were in Vegas getting hammered....that was enough to convince me that the kid has a good head on his shoulders.

Coaching wise I can't see that Bennett is any advantage over Maguire

Maguire's Kiwis beat the Bennett coached Great Britain twice in Oct-Nov and it's really gone under the radar how bad GB have gone on their return as a side after 10+ years, also getting beat by Tonga and pretty soundly by PNG, so 0-4 in the off season under Bennett

Yeah but things can change. If they lose Arrow for 2021 they might cut him loose for 2020 and free up some money. Boyd is in the shop window on half a million... Ash Taylor...I agree that they look unlikely given they just re-signed Brimson but things can change quickly.

Arrows current contract at the titans is not worth much so losing him won’t be enough. If Taylor leaves then the titans will likely pay some of his salary elsewhere. With the resigning of brimson, losing 2 players as high profile as arrow and Taylor won’t be enough for what latrell wants. The kid has already won 2 premierships and an origin series so I’m not sure what further Mal can advise him on, there would be no point in him going up there on smaller money in order to ‘build something’.
Also have it on good authority he won’t be joining a Queensland team
