Keeping him on for 2 extra years at $150k per year…sounds like good value...and it eases our cap issue for 2017....sign here please....

3 years at $300,000 per year starting in 2017 are the figures being mentioned in the article.

Yes, that is correct, but also the $600k option for next year in HIS favour. So basically two extra seasons @ $150k each, plus the cap relief next year to sign or retain others, as per the figures you quoted above.

Yes the option is in his but by extending his contract for two years he will forgo the $600,000 in 2017 and receive $300,000 over the next 3 seasons. In total $900,000 over his 3 year contract starting in 2017\. If you want to quote an additional $150,000 per season feel free but it is irrelevant as his contract value each year will be $300,000 for salary cap purposes!!

To be honest if I was Lawrence I'd be looking to grab that $600k next year and take my chances afterwards, or simply pull the plug at the end of 2017 and move onto the business ventures that Lawrence is involved in.

But this 27 year old converted centre you are speaking of has been paid top dollar as a strike centre for years yet has no pace and has spent an inordinate amount of time on the sideline. The worst case we find a young forward from the market to replace him which is a far more palatable situation than losing our good young hooker, halves for fullback.

What is inordinate? Lawrence has played 75.57% (167/221) of available games since his first full season in first grade, and that includes missing 17 games in 2011 due to dislocated hip and hamstrings.

In the same period Robbie Farah has played 184/221 = 83.26%; Galloway played 161/221 (72.85%).

For more recent players in full years, Tedesco has played 54.17% of available games, Siro 70.83%, Woods 86.07%.

I think it is all relevant TT, else there is no negotiating.

There's a story on the triple m site advising Rowdy has taken the $600k option for next year which therefore screws our cap. As a result we're not likely to be able to keep both Brooks & Moses & will be signing Green (from Melbourne) to replace one of them, with Moses likely to go to Souths. This all comes from Josh Massoud mind you.

Loving out good form on the field but I really wish we'd sign up our young guns ASAP & be able to concentrate on the season ahead!

Lawrence seems as good a clubman as can be…I'd be surprised if he didn't try to work something out to benefit the club. Then again, he was being offered to pretty much anyone last season if reports were true and in that case he should look after himself.

Our club's recent history is quite an amazing story. Triguboff would have chipped in all the money we needed to keep everyone if we simply had one Balmain board member, which we won't due to the debacle over the leagues club, part of which has been caused by a club 'legend', Benny Elias, and partly by shady state government development plans. Then there's the petty infighting amongst the previous board which allowed players to wield too much power. They make movies, TV shows and write books about this stuff.

If that was the case? hopefully Farah goes to England that could be our Saviour.
Why do we need all these doom and gloom articles when I'm loving my footy again :brick:, sometimes I feel things are to good to be true

i like the story of lawrence, one of the rare athletes i've followed for such a long time.

everyone knew he had talent like speed, strength and footwork but it's what he did with the skill that is so good. he worked on his defense so much that i reckon he's one of the best one on one tacklers in the game. every run he makes, it's 100% effort. he's worked on whatever deficiency he has had.. i remember 2 years ago, he used to make a million handling errors a game and they've almost gone to 0 last 2 years.

now to his fitness. he came back from a dislocated hip. BLOODY INSANE! his fitness is among the best. he got a leaner look to be a centre than within a year buffed up to become a backrower.

last of all, one of the best line runners in the comp.

idk if brooks or moses are gonna stay but any young player coming through should look no further than this guy for a mentor.

now i understand what marina go was talking about when she said they were still finding new salary cap problems during last year.
a 5 year contract with a 6th year option.
got a feeling meyer didn't even know about that option.

Correct me if i'm wrong. but I got the vibe that Lawrence approached the Club to negotiate the terms of his contact, so he could help ease the pressure of the Salary Cap for next year and at the same time extend his contract. A win/win situation.

We can thank Sheens and Humpty for previous Cap Management that puts us in the position where Rowdy has this option in his contract for 2017 at an inflated price..

These negotiations were initiated by Rowdy himself some 6 months ago..Shows what a loyal and true Clubman he is…If the new deal is agreed to it will benefit both the player and the Wests Tigers..1\. Rowdy gets job security 2, the Club is eased of the burden in the 2017 Cap of an overinflated salary that can be used in other areas..

I hope it goes through his form since moving to the Backrow has been great and will continue to improve the more he plays...Injury free he will become a weapon for us again...

It will also give him the opportunity, should the halves stay, to be part of a steady progression that may just see the club become a real force within that time frame. And for a guy who's only had the good fortune to play in 3 finals games in 10 years that'd be a great reward.

it would be outstanding if something could be worked ot with rowdy's contract, whats being said of the 2 year extension at more appropriate value win win IMO for all parties. I also have an inkling that Farah wont be here beyond this season maybe a farewell season with a last tilt at origin then off to England. That would give Cherrington the number 1 hoooker role next season with Baliin back up and bring through Liddle with the view to the following season.
That would provide plenty of cap relief and perhaps Harry giving us some 3rd party clout we can get some top notch signings and re signings to compliment the group we have.

You'd think all this stuff for Lawrence, Brooks Moses etc would all be somewhat on hold until Buckets comes in. It's his domain afterall. A bit of groundwork done sure, but the cap is one of his primary roles.

Think he starts next week, anyone know?
