LIVE 9's Thread*

One of the life lessons my old man taught me was that if you are going to participate in something, then you should try your hardest to succeed in it. If you fail, you fail but at least you can hold your head high and say that was my best effort. That way you attain not only the respect of your peers but more importantly self respect.

After that shockingly embarrassing exit from season 2016, i thought the club would be itching to turn a corner. With a no excuses policy for season 2017 it stood to reason that our coaching staff and playing squad would adopt the mantra that we will win every game we play and if we lose, then we go down swinging and our opposition are bruised by the competition we put up. That didnt happen today. Our head coach did not prepare his squad to win and as such they meekly folded and returned 2 losses. This bloke wants a contract extension!

Of course this 2 day comp has no bearing on the premiership but how are we as supporters supposed to believe that our NRL squad is busting their backsides at training and will be prepared to go to war each week for the next 7 months when they couldnt be bothered having a go for an easy 9s tournament? Why should we turn up week after week spending good money to see a side who are only going through the motions? who dont have a collective killer, winning mentality? Has anything changed from round 26 last year? Judging from what ive read and seen between then and now i cant be confident it has.

I don't understand what people are so upset about. If JT had of come out and said that we believe in the 9s as a bona fide tournament and will be doing everything in our powers to win it - then yes i would be peeved at the total lack of committment. But when he came out and said that they haven't trained for it, have no desire to win it and are more focused on the real comp - i for one am quite happy they just went through the motions.

I dont understand JTs, the clubs, or your attitude

If we seriously challenged the ''real comp'' year in year out..then yes, I can understand it.
But we suck at everything we play in just about….we are a poor team, poor club with a poor coach who really should be striving to get the best from his players....ahh forget it

You fighting with JT, sounds like a lovers tiff lol.

When you sell a jersey for $170 to commemorate the event, name a squad that can compete. Why would you want a memory of an event our Club doesn't want to be involved in.

I like how people are saying "the club" are giving us a raw deal here.

I'm pretty sure JT is the man picking the squad and deciding to put in half assed efforts to these Nines.

Personally I don't have a huge problem with it. Were not a club that can afford any key injuries in February.

However if you do have a problem with it - you need to be calling the coach out - I don't think Pascoe or Go or the new Director of football are telling Taylor not to take Moses, Teddy, Woods etc. Maybe I am wrong on this but Taylor has always answered any question in regards to the Nines during his 3 year with disdain.

Absolutely its the coach. The management can't wash their hands of it though.

Yep it's about attitude and effort, not how important the comp is or avoiding injuries.

It's obvious the comp is not as relevant as the season itself, and that we can't afford injuries.

But if you're Jason Taylor you plan for this and you make sure whoever is going is fully prepared and ready to rip.

And you spend every day, and half the night if you have to, turning this club around.

Your childish homophobic posts saw your other acct banned last time.

Bright people learn from their mistakes.
Youre not learning.

Can't understand the anger from many people about the effort or results, seriously would people still be talking the same if one of our star players got a season ending injury if they put in the supposed effort that many here were looking for? The 9's should be scrapped, don't see the need for it besides a little weekend of fun for fans and players. Goes to show that some of us have been missing the footy more than others.

I tend to agree with happy re: our attitude towards the tournament. I agree with resting players and what not, but it genuinely looked as though we hadn't spent a single session on 9 a side stuff. Not only that, but even when we were down, we continued weird one out stuff with slow PTBs. Zero adjustments, zero results. Were our teams stacked with middle forwards more than others? Certainly seemed that way in the way we played.

Performances were pretty concerning as well. Tackling was awful, general skills inept and we ran out of gas extremely quickly. The players looked like they didn't want to be there, but for that I can't blame them, given the attitude from management.

So many ppl here have no idea how things work… the club openly said they weren't interested in this, they pick team accordingly and ppl still get upset..
during the Jan / feb time of year they are in their biggest training load aspect, meaning high volume AND high intensity. It's hell... they pull back (taper off) the week before they train for round 1.
The boys look very slow and also tired in the 9s because they are still training exceptionally hard. Very high training loads take a significant toll on the body but the squad will get the benefit come competition start..
Freshening them up and a full strength team and I promise you see a completely different output.
Heads up ppl

Youre more likely to get hurt or injured going in half hearted.

Yes tigerlogic, Parra Brisbane and NQ looked really tired
Youre so far off the mark its not funny

How people can dismiss those two performances as not mattering is beyond me, especially if the players were given the same message.
It was a poor display from our club yesterday both on and off the field and I hope Pascoe is giving them all a good kick up the you know where.
The coach needs to play his best team today and they need to perform like they have some idea that they know what they are doing, even if they don't win.

Couldn't care much less, but hope they put in enough effort in their final game to make some on here a little happier. Meanwhile, chore time.

Sirro is playing like a guy with a point to prove. He looks fit and strong and is running good lines aggressively. Shame he is doing it at another club but good to see nonetheless.

Rankin has not been named in the team to play game 3 vs Brisbane.

Firstly ink, I never mentioned those teams that you did, my comments have not been about them, you might notice the higher caliber team they chose to take in order to win the 9s??

Secondly, I have a masters degree in SnC so don't tell me I'm off the mark, what I said is 100% correct thanks, but you're argument of it's not affecting other teams is stupid, they have clearly chosen a squad to be competitive, and that goes a long way.. you also don't know how much emphasis they have placed on the 9s, the more time they spent in preparation for the 9s the lesser volume of training they would have had the past two weeks..
The premiers looked shit, so did the dogs and the raiders, all of which will likely make the top 8\. Just goes to show, different clubs place a different value on this weekend, and our coach openly said we were not placing a high value on it

So if we can win by 30+ and the other teams in our group decide to go home early we can make the quarters?
