LIVE GAME Live Game Discussion, vs Titans - Rd 1 *Spoilers*

Live Game Discussion
For how many opportunities we had ,it's disappointing we couldn't find more points.

I'd like to see the halves closer to the ruck, we seem to only try crash plays when there is no one out the back creating any doubt because the halves are both playing second receiver a lot. Maybe I'm over thinking it and as I just said in another thread I wasn't very sober, but we try the same things over and over again- 1 out running then a shift to halves with no time. Rushing edge defence just shuts Brooks down, Doueihi ran or kicked when he had no options and looked better, but FFS mix it up - you shouldn't need a coach to tell you that what you tried for an hour with no success won't just start working.

Went to the Game yesterday & have had a bit of time to think about it, hindsight is great but Brooks hasn't played since August of last year & should of started off in Reggies. This week I would bring in AJ & drop TT, no heaps of changes & I still think we can beat the Knights as long as we hold the ball.

When you have 56% of the ball and only complete 65% of the time says it all. We just didn’t treat the Titans / game with respect.

We lost that game hands down with poor options & ball handling.

Whenever something didn’t go our way we switched off defensively to some very very soft tries. We didn’t show resilience.

Try 1 off the back of us having 80% of the ball. Blore defending infield they shift, lined Talau and AD together and easy line break

Try 2 Nofo knock on they score via kick. Laurie defending in the line 15-20mtrs out - bad fullback mgmt.

Try 3 off a dodge penalty against the run of play. Sam actually moved to his left to play the ball not on the mark and followed AJ, gets the penalty and then not one of 3 players around the ball actually look at the ball and instead play the player

Try 4 was AJ over committing, AD flat footed & not marking up mixed with Stef stopped before realizing a gap needed to be covered from the scrum add to this Laurie was also defending the line on halfway.

Outside of the above we actually dominated the Titans and shut their options down.

I’m not doom and gloom yet, there were positive signs yesterday and had my score predictor at 28-16 Titans before Fermor was out. The Titans with Verrels and Foran in the squad are a top 8 side.

Knights if we are on the improve is a game we must ice, if we lose to them I may start to be in deep worry.

Yeah good point.
We started yesterday with 1 player who hasnt laced up in 6+ months and two others who haven’t played in 18 months.

I totally agree Tigress, however I have got sick of hearing that same quote for years, you know we are in a rebuild, the team is learning the structures etc...Im backing that they will improve in the next 3/4 weeks and I will be extremely happy when they do...
The way we carved the edges up yesterday was encouraging. On a good day, that sort of momentum will equal a big score.
Until then, we have to beat our low level peers, ugly if necessary.
We cannot drop the game this week v Newie.

Our handling errors cost us the most and most of them were from the backs..
Forwards were excellent and even the tackles made from them were very effective.

Maybe the backs were not used to the forwards doing there job and were shocked.

They will look at the film and notice we need to be more direct through the middle and stop this side by side rubbish until we earn it

Well your obviously never played at a decent level, or you were one tough hombre and liked to get belted.
Everyone who plays the game at any level gets belted .
It’s part of the game ..
You can see it in his face he’s a cat , same as when we had Moltzen .
If you’re not prepared to get belted and put you body on the line ( especially under a high ball as a fullback )get out of the game .

Just look at players like Toovey and Preston Cambell .
They had bottle unlike Laurie
