We are supposedly about $355,000 under the cap for 2010.

Where did you pull that figure from Bug…...

Come on Geo !!! Hahaha ok I'll tell ya. A manager told me 4 weeks ago over a beer that WT had $400K left under the cap for 2010\. He then said to expect to subtract about $40k to $50k for perceived rep player payments etc.

well i hope so, i for the life of me can figure where we spend 4 million a season, and like i said before weve let close to a million in talent go only signed around 300k worth of talent

On a football perspective i am dead set against signing Tuqiri but as a business and marketing deal it would put the Tigers top of the table - an interesting thought when we are supposedly looking for new sponsors.

Why's that?

Personally I'd be very excited by the prospect of having someone as big, strong and fast backing up Farah around the middle of the ruck, plus the advantage a back three of Tuquiri, Tuiaki and Ryan/Tupou/Brown would give us.

I don't think Lote is real quick now,I would rather a $350K prop than a winger.

I don't think Lote is real quick now,I would rather a $350K prop than a winger.

Point 1: He may not be as fast as he used to be, but he's still fast and strong. Sailor's not as fast as he used to be but his performance has still been a cut above many wingers he's faced this year. I expect it would be the same with Tuquiri who, unlike Sailor, is younger and hasn't spent 2 years away from any sort of professional football.

Point 2: Tuquiri would play fullback not wing if he was signed. I firmly believe that fullback is a position of need. Blake Lazarus is returning from 2 season ending knee reconstructions. I don't think the club would have any expectations that he's ready to take on the fulltime first grade fullback position. Taumata has mostly played in the halves and is a high risk signing. Moltzen is far more suited to half-back or 5/8 rather than fullback. I'd prefer Tuquiri at fullback to all of our current options.

Point 3: I'd rather sign a $350K prop as well. But I don't see one available unless Burgess miraculously becomes available. Just because I'd rather have an extra top line prop, doesn't mean I think we shouldn't sign Tuquiri, given that he fills a position of need (just not as big a position of need as prop) and would have additional off field sponsorship and marketing benefits.

Speed is not that important.. its his power and ability to break the line.. you can be the fastest sprinter in the world but useless unless he can attack and break the defence…

he has enough speed and power to do that and to me we would have the most potent attacking back line in the comp up there with the best. and IMHO i think we woul get by with out the need for another prop..

I know we go back to 05 but our forwards were smaller then they are now, but our attacking back like was a killer for most teams..

TRoy

Just imagine Benji drifting to the left side, with Lawrence and Tuiaki on his outside and Tuqiri angling back inside. I don't think there is a better 4 man combo. Ellis would be sniffing around too on that side.

I agree

you can have the biggest props in the world, but when your backline is made up of Ayshford (90kg, only going to get bigger), Lawrence (96kg), TNT (105kg) and Tuqiri (103kg) our backline would have the size and speed of a union backline that WILL win. They are the key to success.
Wide, deep backlines at speed… yum!

What i meant was from a football perspective we have greater needs than a winger - he would be a sensation i agree but it is not were we are lacking. Business wise he would put bums on seats and sponsors falling over to align themselves with the Tigers.

How is Martin planning any jaunts to Tokyo…....so does that mean we're gunna spend up to the Cap for 2010.....

Lote would be OK but Props would be better..........

Winning games puts bums on seats, frontrowers win you games.

You can win games with a average no1 and a great frontrow, you cant win games with a average frontrow and a great fullback although Hogo nearly proved that theory wrong!!

u better tell that to the 2005 team.. that is a rediculous statement..

Lote is not the one to win us games. Lote will complete the back line that will be one of the best in the game.
Our FRont row is NOT that bad..

Troy

Nah not that bad until a bloke like Galloway gets injured and practically costs us a shot at finals footy again. We need a lot more depth, our forward pack is much improved but one injury really caught us out this season.

That's true, but as I've said before, I don't think our choices are between signing Tuquiri and signing a frontrower, I think it's between signing Tuquiri and not signing anyone. I say this because I simply don't see a top line prop out there that we are _**likely**_ to sign.

The questions for me is would you rather have an average frontrow (to use your words) with Tuquiri at fullback, or an average frontrow with either Taumata, Moltzen or Mitch Brown at fullback?

I don't think anyone's against us upgrading our frontrow.

But given that the club doesn't seem like it's interested in signing any new props, the question becomes, is our current squad more likely to win with Tuquiri, rather than without? I think the answer is yes.

A backline of

1\. Lote
2\. Tuiaki
3\. Taumata
4\. Lawrence
5\. Ayshford

6\. Marshall
7\. Moltzen

Would be something special

We are all have been crying out for more Props, but that backline is would be lethal…....trytime....trytime... :wahoo:

yes one injury to someone like galloway will cost us another season, id rather see the money on a prop also.

speed is the most important differential in the nrl, i dont think lote has that much speed anymore.

strength and size yes like sailor but speed is the key for the backline i reckon.

boy we will miss gallant at the back next year.
