Lote Tuqiri thread

I'm a bit shocked people are so scathing of our drive to sign Tuqiri.

You may not agree with it 100%, but it's hard to see it being an awful signing. It would be very attractive to sponsors and a real coup for the club if we pulled it off.

Surely even those against the signing can see a silver lining?

We already signed Brown & Daniella, they play where Lote plays…all I see is imbalance.

LOL…trying

Yeh, we really tried.

But just to humour you, the backs we have bought create the imbalance had we done the right thing and hung on to a local junior.

with tagive and collis leaving i think they were sign more for depth, i thought brown would be playing FB for us but with lui emerging im having doubts he or daniela will get a game unless injuries ocur.

but tuquiri is hole other level of player, if sheens was hell bent on playing lui at 7 then i can see moltz being shifted to the 3 jersey with lote at 1

Why be so patronising? We did have Gallant signed up. He had to ask for a release.

Anyway, it doesn't really matter what the club did. The point is, at the time Gallant was unsigned I'm sure you were not suggesting it would be unwise to sign him due to an imbalance.

This year we have lost Tagive, Collis and McDonnell. If we sign Tuqiri, we have replaced these players with Daniella, Brown and Tuqiri. No more imbalanced than we were this year.

So youre happy continuing with an unbalanced team, good to see you can admit that.
Tagive is hardly a ''loss'', as he never even figured in things in the first place.
We should be focussing on first grade standard forwards, imo.

I don't necessarily agree the team is imbalanced. Don't forget Fulton is back and we've signed the other young pom. I've also got a feeling we will be picking up another first grade forward for next season. Obviously I can't prove that, but there are enough rumours swirling around to make me believe it is the case.

If we were to sign Tuqiri next year, our reserve backs would be Daniella, Brown, Lui and Lazarus. I honestly don't think that is an excessive amount of depth. I would imagine most teams would have that on their roster.

If you are correct and there is a bit of an imbalance, I still don't see a problem with signing another back when they are of Tuqiri's quality and marketability.

I forgot about Taumata. I actually think he is the superfluous signing if anyone is. So I would agree there.

Superfluous - great word. But I disagree whole heartedly. I have a sneaking suspicion this kid will be amongst our best ever signings - joining the likes of Prince and Ellis. It will all depend upon his attitude. I believe that by mid way through 2010, he will be in the starting 13, and will be key to our 2010 success.

Try telling Tim sheens that!!! Hopefully he plays him, becuase the raps on this kid are pretty good!

Taumata has shown he has the potential to be a very good first grader…he also knows it wont happen if he keeps blowing his chances off field,& this is probably his last chance.
Can a leopard(pardon the pun!)change his spots ...obviously Sheens thinks so,but I wouldnt bet on it.Time will tell.
If he can/does,its a real bonus for next yr as he can play at 1st grade level anywhere in the backline except winger..may even be more talented than Moltzen

I presume this is the one they're talking about….

It could be hooroo for Eric Grothe
>
* By Josh Massoud
* From: The Daily Telegraph
>
ERIC Grothe Jr could farewell rugby league on the grand stage at ANZ Stadium tonight if Parramatta bow out to the Bulldogs.
>
The Guru has been sniffing out opportunities in Japanese rugby for two months, and stepped up his cross-code crusade a fortnight ago by posting a highlights CD to the Land of the Rising Sun.
>
According to UK sources, Grothe even knocked back a deal from Super League outfit Hull to pursue the big money. His new manager Andrew Purcell has previously denied any Japanese negotiations, but a raft of well-placed people at Parramatta have been telling us otherwise for the past six weeks.
>
Eels officials certainly won't stand in Grothe's way if he secures a rich deal - and not because they want him out for salary-cap purposes.
>
Parramatta can afford to accommodate the 29-year-old's final year, but he's well-liked by those above and neither the new Parramatta board nor CEO Paul Osborne will begrudge him a handsome superannuation.
>
**WHILE on Japanese rugby, that's where dual international Lote Tuqiri will be headed if Wests Tigers can't come up with a satisfactory third-party deal to claw him back to the NRL. Dealings with French club Bayonne have taken a back seat to the money on offer in Japan, which is now rugby league's No.1 threat for Tuqiri.**
>
THE Parramatta bandwagon has gained such momentum that it's now stealing supporters from rival clubs. The latest is boxing world champ Vic Darchinyan, who publicly declared himself a Wests Tigers fan years ago.
>
Darchinyan has been ushered into the Eels' inner sanctum along with fellow pugilist Danny Green.
>
The pair dined with the entire team after their victory over St George Illawarra two weeks ago.
>
MANLY might be out of business, but there have been some intriguing dealings on the Northern Beaches over skipper Matt Orford's future.
>
It was widely expected Orford would ink a three-year extension to see out his days at Brookvale.
>
But the latest mail indicates Sea Eagles officials are now poised to offer the 2008 Dally M medallist a two-year deal.
>
It remains to be seen how Camp Orford will respond to the offer. Perhaps the answer lies with his manager George Mimis's whereabouts this week - overseas.

Well it's a simple choice then between money and sport. You couldn't with a straight face claim you were going to Japanese for anything other than the piles of cash.
