Weird thing about Internet forums. It reduces everything to a binary. Is he great or complete rubbish? Truth is he is somewhere in the middle. A value judgement will be made that is a bit skewed to keeping him because of ADs injury and lack of depth.

‘Isn’t a story’: Wests Tigers fed-up with Luke Brooks split speculation
The Tigers are the laughing stock of the NRL and they’re sick of dealing with constant rumours over maligned halfback Luke Brooks.

The circus surrounding Luke Brooks’ immediate future is showing no signs of slowing down, as the Wests Tigers maintained their star wasn’t going anywhere despite rumblings suggesting otherwise.

Brooks has been linked with a move to the Newcastle Knights, as Mitchell Pearce chases a move to Catalans Dragons in the UK Super League after he formally requested to be released from the final year of his contract with his NRL club.

If Pearce sets out to enjoy a $2 million payday in the south of France to finish his career, Knights coach Adam O’Brien will want a ready-made replacement — and Brooks appears to be that man.

There’s one big issue preventing the 26-year-old from becoming a Novocastrian though — he still has two years to run on his deal with the Tigers and club officials are adamant he’s not leaving anytime soon.

A report in the Sydney Morning Herald quotes a senior club official at Concord claiming the whole saga is nothing more than paper talk.

“I’m not sure how many times we have to come out and say Luke is staying,” the official told the publication.

“If we come out and say anything publicly, it just adds to the story, and there isn’t a story.”

The comments come after Wide World of Sports on Thursday reported Brooks’ switch to the Knights was all but wrapped up.

The report also noted Brooks’ desire to play alongside Kalyn Ponga, one of the most exciting talents in rugby league, as a major factor spurring his mooted transfer to the Knights.

Another element that adds fuel to the fire on speculation is the fact Brooks and O’Brien share the same manager.

Brooks made his debut with the Tigers in 2013 and has made over 160 appearances for the club, but is yet to enjoy a finals berth as the club has not finished in the top eight since 2011.

However, Wests lured Tim Sheens — the man who delivered them the join venture club’s first and only premiership in 2005 — as their new director of football in the hopes he can weave some of his magic on an organisation starving for success.

Should Brooks ultimately pack his bags for the Knights, the Tigers already have two potential replacements. Recent signings Jackson Hastings and Tyrone Peachey can play at either halfback or five-eighth.

However, Tigers coach Michael Maguire is hoping the two will complement Brooks rather than replace him in the starting line-up.

Seriously, where do journos get off on writing nonsense like this? Like what was the point of adding the "Tigers are the laughing stock of the NRL" part to the article? ![Screen Shot 2021-11-05 at 1.06.34 pm.png](/assets/uploads/files/1636078128884-screen-shot-2021-11-05-at-1.06.34-pm-resized.png)

And Wests did beat Newcastle in both games last year so maybe they thought they saw something from the bloke in #7

His Manager is looking to replace Pearce to keep his coach at Newy in a job...
It's that simple.
Coaches make BIG money, And are in the game a lot longer than players...

Compared to how the Knights should have went this last season, They were woeful...
I'd almost have them as the Worst team in the comp (Considering the playing stocks)
The fact they even made the 8 was embarrassing... The coach won't survive if they role it out again.
Having no 7 isn't going to help that not happening at all....
There's no one that can play 7 for them coming through, And Mann is ordinary mostly in 6...
Doesn't bide well.
I have no doubt they're busting they're busting their hump to get Brooks - Weather he wants to leave Sydney or not and if we get something in return would yet to be nutted out...

We BETTER be getting something in return this time.

We always get financial compensation. No club takes advantage of this administration.

There's no doubt in my mind that Brooks is a fine footballer, however, i think, his performance in his current and only playing position, he has shown us more of his weaknesses than his strenghths, and i believe his strenghths would be much better displayed if he was used in a different playing position.

But the sad thing i see now is that Brooks is not truly recognised enough for what he truly is, besides him being a fine footballer, he is a fine human being, so far, he has not once been involved in any off field controversies or indiscretions (like many other players in the NRL), this suggests that he has good characteristics of a good clean person,
He has shown the club and his teammates, many examples of good character traits. These good qualities has stayed with him since his debut with the WT.

Although i voted No in the poll (i understood the question to mean as a halfback) the result of this poll would have been much more different if the question asked, was asked as, should we keep Brooks but play him in another position?

Brooks is a fine footballer with the character of a person that should be recognised and respected.

Ironically, Knights' fans are complaining about Fox reporting that Ponga could leave if he doesn't trigger his player option. It tends to undermine the argument that Ponga is the appeal to go to the Knights.

100% agreed.
Great guy. Great footballer, great athlete.

Not a great halfback and personality wise unsuited to the position.
He will never marshall people into position and will never take charge.

5/8 or even Fullback I reckon he would have done great.
Sadly someone in junior grades put him at halfback and no one has challenged that U15 coaches decision since.

Agree, Luke Brooks is a fine NRL footballer, who always has his perceived best or standout seasons when he has the support of a good kicking hooker. This option alleviates pressure on his general game and kicking game. It’s the same for any NRL halfback. If Liddell can dramatically improve his kicking game? People’s negative perceptions of Luke’s game will backflip and we will see Brooks at his effective best again. Liddle will also be a fine player - with more experience, as he continues to develop all aspects of his game. Go Weststigers!

Looks to me like the media are hoping (just like every single time previously) that they're giving the club enough rope.....
Tbh thought we were basically settled on the decision and there was nothing wrong (illogical or unwise) with it, from my view.
We've injured players and poor depth but also the stocks out there aren't much better than what we have.

There's another aspect which hasn't been considered and that is as long as we've proclaimed our objective of being a development club for local - and elite junior talent, there'll once again be extra attention on us with how we handle our juniors. Whether anyone agrees with it or not, releasing the one player who we've been unable to take to their full potential opens up a whole new can of worms - it would be an absolute PR nightmare for the Wests Tigers.

I don't buy into all the speculation thrown around at present and the only beating drums I perceive are the fans/supporters interest in this. It ensures it gets clicks and doesn't go away and IMO only serves as fodder for the likes of Isaac Moses and the media. Every single article I've read on the topic is almost word-for-word, taken from content I've read on WTF.

One of these days we need to do what they did on LU and make up a complete BS rumour and actually see if any outlets run with it

Frustrated Tigers fed up with Luke Brooks speculation

Christian Nicolussi

Frustrated Wests Tigers officials declared on Thursday night they were fed up with speculation Luke Brooks is heading to Newcastle to replace Mitchell Pearce, with the No.7 having assured them it would not be happening.

Less than two weeks after new director of football Tim Sheens declared from England the halfback would be staying put until at least the end of 2023, talk of Brooks heading to the Hunter cranked into overdrive with four separate news reports suggesting he was all but a done deal.

Pearce is keen to join Catalans in the Super League but Newcastle won’t cut the veteran loose until they can find a suitable replacement.

Brooks is seen by many at the Knights as the man to fill the void. There is also the belief a change of scenery would freshen him up mentally; while the playmaker and coach Adam O’Brien share the same manager.

One angry Tigers official pointed out late Thursday Brooks had two years to run on his deal and questioned why he had even been linked with a rival club. They added it was unfair for Brooks to continually read false reports about his future, something Sheens also made a point of addressing a fortnight ago.

“I’m not sure how many times we have to come out and say Luke is staying,” the official said.

“If we come out and say anything publicly, it just adds to the story, and there isn’t a story.”

Sheens touches down from England on Sunday and will report for duty at Concord first thing Monday, almost a decade after he finished up with the club he won a premiership with in 2005.

Brooks is weighing up whether to speak publicly and end the Knights speculation once and for all.

The Tigers have Jackson Hastings and Tyrone Peachey coming on board, with both capable of playing halfback and five-eighth respectively. Adam Doueihi, the club’s best player, sees his future at No. 6 but will miss the first half of the year as he overcomes a second ruptured ACL.

The Tigers remain interested in Canberra rake Josh Hodgson for next year, but will not budge on how much of his contract they are prepared to pick up.

And they are one of several clubs keen on Api Koroisau, but will only become seriously interested if the Panthers are prepared to cut him loose a year early, which the premiers will not.

Meanwhile, Dylan Napa remains hopeful of landing a new deal and knows he will need to take a massive pay cut. The former Maroons prop is said to be ready to settle for as little as $250,000 a season, virtually a third of what he commanded when switching from the Sydney Roosters to Canterbury.

There was brief interest from the Broncos and Cronulla, but Napa could yet find himself in the south of France with good mate Pearce and coach Steve McNamara, who worked with the front-rower at the Roosters when he was an assistant to Trent Robinson.

Man this must be such a confusing, difficult and an unsettling time for Luke. I'm sure no player including Luke wants to go thru what he is atm. I really feel for him. For Tigers officials to publicly come out and adamantly report he's staying, or if this is a big lie, Tigers officials are all corrupt.

Are you serious? It's Luke's manager that is trying to orchestrate the whole thing. The guy that is employed by Brooks. All the club have done is state that a player with a contract is expecting to be staying. Brooks and his management are the ones trying to get out of the contract.
