If playing with their mates is the only thing keeping these guys at the club, idk why anyone would want them. There's clearly no pride in the jumper if they're going to throw their toys out of the cot if one of their mates signs elsewhere. This is a professional (use that term loosely) sports organization, not a boys club

money is not a good reason to stay
coach is not a good reason to stay
teammates is not a good reason to stay
then what is the good reason to stay? pride in the jumper.. our club really doesn't have anything that players can be proud of it.

we have everything to lose if these 2 don't decide to be with his next year. it will pretty much be like going 5 years back. we've invested in these 2 and let's go on with it.

The club has only itself to blame. Maybe Austin and Martin were the way to go.

are our 20's halves any good?

Honestly think Brooks and Moses will both stay but who knows, lets just hope this doesn't drag into the footy season

It says they are going to wait until June so yep,it will drag on. Every week until June on here it is gonna either be a catchcry of 'let the hacks go' or ' give 'em $1 mill each per season and keep them Tigers for life' depending on whether we win or lose that particular week. Can't wait.

By June this thread will have more pages than Farahgate

And maybe Austin and Te Maire weren't the better option either GNR. Martin has proven nothing as yet and Austin will be hard-pressed to reproduce his form of early 2015.
Obviously only time will tell.

If Brooks and Moses wanna hold the club to ransom when it comes time to decide on their future then let them go…its not like they are winning us too many games off their own bat. They would want to demonstrate a significant improvement in their form and consistency at the start of this season or else not really fussed whether they stay or go apart from the factor of Tedesco maybe wanting to follow his good buddies out the door.

On the bright side losing one means we can play both Rankin and Addo Carr with Moses/Rankin halves and Carr on wing

The biggest issue i have with all this is that if they turn around in June and say they are leaving what then? You can bet your bottom dollar any decent halves will be signed elsewhere by then. I guess then it will be the old "rebuilding for the next 2-3 years, but we have lots of promising talent".

I understand they wanted an extension but i would have gave them till the start of April at best. At least then we would have time to weigh up our options. If we knew they were both leaving we would have $1.2 million and could be making a play for Cronk instead.

It just feels as though we started a game of poker by telling eveyone what cards we have.

I put my feet firmly in the must sign them camp and would go as far as keeping their mate Milone on a minimal contract to keep in their ears. Lovett as well and he has shown himself worthy of at least minimum wage.

I can't see the reported $600k going anywhere near keeping either of them, as proven first grade halves with potential upside are not common.

Who signs players to a contract with an option in their favour, with a 33% a year payrise built in? If they do live up to their promise, they can choose to test the market & if offered more elsewhere either leave or force the tigers to up their offer. If they are playing like busted or the money is not there, they take up the option cost us around 20% of our salary cap and fail to perform. Then at the end of 2017 they are off contract and te whole circus starts again.
The tigers really need to take stoke of who they have under contract, who is the priority to retain & make sure that they are made offers to good to refuse and then build a side around them. At this stage Tedesco would be the one I would be pulling out all stops to keep.

Well I suppose the good news and the bad news perhaps is that players often find another level when contract time is up.

They will probably play out of their skin early in the year meaning we cant find room for both :roll Although if it means were sitting in the Top 8 its a positive!.

luke brooks is doing exactly the right thing for luke brooks.

if he was my son id be giving him the same advice- play well, win some games and see what happens.

i wouldnt be committing myself to the tigers - to be in demand as a highly regarded halfback coming off contract puts him in a strong bargaining position.

i think that jason taylor and luke brooks futures are closely linked.

as is the immediate future of wests tigers.

payment by performance ,i say.

I think halfbacks may be the dominoes of this year like the outside backs were last year. Where is Cooper Cronk going, Where are Benji, Reynolds, Keary etc heading. As players start to move on clubs will be looking for replacements and the $$ they will pay will be based on who is left. If you are the last free agent with 3-4 clubs chasing a hlf, you can almost write your own deal.

I tell you why Harvey , at the time when these 2 were signed we were in massive Salary Cap issues in getting on the market and signing anyone decent…...Oh we did Braith Anasta and Eddy Pettybourne :unamused: , So at the time they had this massive video link interview on our Website about them being the next big thing and from then the word that we have been brainwashed to believe is POTENTIAL .
So everyone was distracted with supposedly believing this is it.......the combination for the next 10 years , but at the same time the figures that they were supposedly suppose to be on has been there own undoing as the criticism based on those figures has put the extra pressure on them i believe.

Look there entitled to seek there best paying Employers no doubt , is it there fault ? of course not it's there Job . I believe they have been massively overpaid the last couple of years.

People go on and on about Tedesco reneging because he didn't want to leave his mates, yet if his mates were so important, why sign with Canberra in the first place? There were definitely other factors involved.

Double the money

The trouble with most on this forum is we read too much into every bloody article written by anyone with nothing better to do.
We all know that Brookes is not a good talker and is very nervous when interviewed. The poor kid probably had a journo throw some unexpected questions at him and answered them the best he could.
After all he only stated,

**"he is humbled by the attention, especially when he has only ever donned the orange and black of the Tigers.\
\
“This is the only club I’ve played at, so it is a bit weird seeing me linked to other clubs,"\
\
“I’ve got an option in my favour for next year, so I’ve got to make a decision by June.\
\
“I’ll just wait and see what happens.\
\
“But for now I’m just focused on training well and getting right for the season.”**

Absolutely nothing in it,
but of course, as we usually do, let's blow it right out of proportion.

Yeah mate…I'm still waiting for someone to point out where he admits he could leave as the article headline states...

That wont stop the chicken littles believing Brooks is signed sealed and delivered elsewhere tho...

As you know he ain't going anywhere .

The club has invested too much time and money in Brooks and Moses to simply let them walk out the door. I'm confident we will retain both.

Which makes no sense

Why would you give them half a season to potentially send their pay packets sky high and then get pushed through the roof by other clubs

Because the new CEO has all the smarts NOT! I think money is not the only driver one expects it also depends who will be on the roster next season and to be frank the garbage that seems never ending does not make for a good working culture .
