Moltzen and Moses were two others than has awful defence but fantastic attack. The Madge interview today on triple m was interesting. He was saying with the new rules teams are picking a player and target their defence the Roosters did it to Moses last night

The Warriors did it to Taumalolo last week, and Newcastle did it to Payne Haas. Both those guys had a ridiculous amount of traffic ran at them, forcing them to make more tackles and compensate by making less runs.

Robert Liu was a turnstile in defence, great attacking player

I think for Brooks to surpass Lui we need to play finals football with Brooks as halfback. Otherwise I’ll always rate Lui above Brooks.

That’s ridiculous we had a great team that was near favourite to win the comp for 2 years when Lui was in. We are closer to a wooden spoon team than a GF.

I don’t think Brooks in that 2010/11 team would have made any difference.

Was going to write something similar to @TYGA, but more so about the pack that Lui had in front of him. With a still quick Robbie to lead that pack, I have absolutely no doubt that Brooks would be head and shoulders above him.

Prince was the best halfback we had for the fleeting moments he was here. Titans pumped us with a free home on the Gold Coast is waterways and poached Lafranchi.

The Raiders ran at Brooks who made 23 tackles. He handled what was thrown at him whereas we saw how Moses didn't handle it. Obviously Brooks' attacking game was impacted. There is a trade off and. you can only hope his forward next to him has a high workrate to take some of the load. LL is an attacking forward, whereas McIntyre has a far better defensive technique and higher workrate. I suspect at some stage, he may become Brooks' partner in defence.

Lockyer built a career from not tackling and having tony carroll next to him

Yes and Cooper with JT. Brooks had Lawrence and then Garner. It is a great shame Garner had to move the right because of the defensive issues on that side.

Funny isnt it - Prince had a loosing record as Wests Tigers halfback still - you know who didnt have a loosing record - Craig Field - 28 games, 13 wins, 13 losses , 2 draws

Craig Field was a very good halfback
Had an average souths team won a tooheys challenge
Had a great Manly side just got beaten in GF
Had an average Balmain side played ok
Had a average wests tigers side and had 13 wins 13 loses

I also remember how much we struggled to find a halfback when Prince left. It wasn’t until Lui arrived that things clicked into gear and that’s with both Farah and Marshall. Can’t say they stifled Lui as many claim on here they did to Brooks.

He had problems both on and off the field but at his best I really liked Robert Lui - I thought he was a real classy player we he was "on"

Yes he was good, but ruined his career (and no doubt his partner’s life) by being a total cretin of a person.

Had an average time at a Kingscliff pub, got gaoled for a decade.

Scott Prince (71)
Robert Lui (42)
**Luke Brooks (135)**
Benji Marshall (42)
Ben Jeffries (25)
Lincoln Withers (31)
Craig Field (28)
John Morris (23)
Tim Moltzen (15)
Mathew Head (10)
Robbie Farah (14)

Scott Prince first and daylight second, but I agree with your top 3 ranking

Other than Prince, a truly awful list of halfbacks over 20 years.
Benji wasn’t a great halfback but even he still kills the rest.
