Question: did Luke Brooks put the intense speculation and media scrutiny behind him and play a better all-around game of football? Yes

Question: did Brooks dramatically improve his kicking choices? Yes

Question: did the rest of the side also hang tougher in attack and defence to make both halves lives easier in key situations? Yes

I don't think we can ask much more of Brooks at this stage. He didn't play great but it was a sure-handed effort and it made the difference. His few runs late in the game got us in a position where his attacking kick was fumbled.

Brooks played a solid game .. (nothing special) .. all of his kicks were mid field bombs .. he was pretty lucky Shibasaki (from Newcastle) had a shocker all day .. !! Brooks major problem with his kicking has been his grubber kicks for the in goal area .. I still wanna see Brooks consistently be able to put a grubber kick into the in goal so we can trap them there for a repeated set of 6 .. !!

So do I, but let him get the confidence and timing in all other facets of his game before he attempts one again. Laurie, MBye, Talau, Doueihi can all do this instead for now. Just let Luke be Luke. His put his trick bag away but it will come out once he gets the confidence to do it again.
Can I ask the last time you saw Brooks pull off a short crash ball other than the one to Stephano. That pass was superb!

Seriously, did you watch the right game?

All of his kicks were *mid field* bombs? Im glad you noticed Shibasaki had a shocker....I guess we were really ***lucky***, that that happened? Just some stroke of ***luck*** that somehow, someway the footballs gods organised for spiralling kicks to land 10m in from touch, 10m in from the tryline for Shibasaki or Hoy to drop? Just a coincidence that these kicks came off Brooks boot?

And I guess the perfect kick for Doueihi's try was a mid field bomb that slipped off the side of Brooks boot? Got lucky there.

Brooks didnt kick one mid field bomb.

I understand that some people dont like Brooks or want him in the team and that he was poor Rds 1 and 2 but it also frustrates me that there is thread after thread, post after post that WE NEED A GAME MANAGER!!!! and then at the same time when Brooks continually bombs Shibasaki back to the stone age, perfectly in the corner, giving our chasers time to pressure the catcher (LL smashing Hoy) its written off as "mid field bomb".

Good post, could not agree more!

This forum, as in life is filled with good people, fools, idiots, knowledgeable people, wannabe's, ass clowns, you name it. Just learn the usual names and brush past them for the sensible ones. The forum reads much better when you can 'ignore' a couple of people - who mind you are entitled to an opinion - but I just choose to ignore it.

Yeah I pretty much just read the people I agree with. Everyone else has no idea ?

Get Hastings and Brooks off to the Cowboys. It would do Brooks the world of good being coached by Payten again.

Payten was a good player and also a good coach. He certainly has the football smarts to get the best from Brooks, just like IC could.

IC and Brooks with his daily m halfback of the year got us to 9th spot. The same spot madge got us.

True. We were missing one or two top line players who make the difference. We've found one with perhaps one more in ISP.

Im in Brooks' corner and desperately want him to come good,

In truth, the knights played him back into form. they were terrible.

I don’t think anyone is not in Brooks corner. The problem I have is that he’s had ample time to succeed and hasn’t. If he can back it up with another good game then he will shut people up. Whilst good in attack and kicking, his defence was terrible.

Brooksy had a good game the angle and shape on the try for Utoikamanu was first class. The kick to Douehi was spot on and his pass to Talau for the break which AJ butchered was brilliant. Kicking was good but he could have stopped two tries which he was left wanting defensively. Talau was the culprit on one of them but his cover was not there.

He’s going to cop it until he repeats a. Solid season backed up by another. 150 games it’s time to stand up. Good start I hope albeit I heard before the game and posted Cowboys May want him and take the salary if Morgan is retired.

No chance you keep him on 850 odd a season.

If someone could take Brooks of our books at full price for 2022, how many fans would be okay with that?

He also put Talau into a gap prior to Kepaoa kicking the ball out on tackle 3.

The numbers though sound made up. When he signed I thought it was 5-6 hundred per year. Now this post says it's 850. I reckon 5-6 hundred is overpaid but on yesterdays effort he is worth close to that.

I doubt we get another half for that price either.

It was pretty frustrating. You forget Brooks made that play because you remember who stuffed it.

We had like 15 on 2 ?

I'm laughing now but he had plenty of support and he decided a nice little kick into touch will do the job.

He played a typical halfbacks game yesterday - he just needs to back that up every week now.
