Just re-watched Brooks' debut video... Big difference in terms of confidence from when he had just first hit the scene to now... And he especially looks better when he was just playing off the cuff, where now he is supposed to be playing as the controlling halfback organiser which just isn't his role and all his creativity ***just ends up being used towards hopeless high bombs on the last tackle***
I see this all the time with respect to Luke Brooks. I also see "WE NEED A GAME MANAGER" and Brooks isnt one.
DO people not see what the high bombs are? They ARE game management. THe game changes all the time. The high bomb is the new kick to the corner. The kick to the corner doesnt work anymore because of the positioning of wingers. If you "kick to the corners" the winger gets the opportunity to run it 20-30m before the defence gets there. The high bomb gives the kick chase time to get through and tackle the winger/FB pretty much where and when they catch it, hopefully 10m out, pinning the opposition deep in their own line.
High bombs are effective when they are done right... You always see the premier halfbacks of the comp placing pinpoint bombs to accurately land right before the opposing tryline or beneath the 10m line. With Brooks, it's more likely to land just around the 15-25m mark with basically no kick chase from our team (not his fault, Brooks is usually the one always leading the kick chase). Not faulting Brooks for putting in the occasional high bomb, but it's come to the point where it has become so predictable and ineffective and there comes a time where you have to question where his kicking creativity went? You can clearly see he knows how to put in a decent kick off the left boot from his debut, and from pretty much all of the 2018 season where he lead the league in repeat sets and try assists off kicks but that has pretty much disappeared.
