Have a look at Brooks debut?
Do you notice anything different in his game of today?
This kid looks good we should sign him up. Short kicks and running game look great.
More so, watch the team, there are so many players in support. Oh and what a spine, teddy, farah, benji and brooks.
Well there's a couple of things about that game.
Firstly Tigers were on a 6-game losing streak in spite of the potential calibre of the 2013 roster - Tedesco, old Benji, Woods, younger Chris Lawrence, Farah, Simona, early Curtis Siro, Galloway etc.
That St George win was the only one in a 9-game run to almost collect the wooden spoon (15th), and there was another 7-game losing streak earlier in the season. 2012 was the year we were supposed to go better than 2010/11 with the roster we had, and 2014-2015 we were flat out avoiding the wooden spoon, coached by Potter and JT.
Brooks unfortunately joined a team severely on the decline and my chief suspicion was because the game was moving further and further away from expansive attacking football in favour of more defensive-oriented, high line-speed, low error teams. It became more of a power game and less of a finesse game. Tigers always had issues with big strong defensive swarming teams, but it was exacerbated by our inconsistency after 2011, being an attack-focused free-wheeling club for almost the entire Tim Sheens tenure.
Specifically to the game itself, St George simply got spooked and fell apart. They finished 14th that season and leading into the Tigers game had won 3, lost 12, and the loss to Tigers was part of a 6-match losing streak.
Brooks played great but St George let him play, they let him, run and kick and gave Tigers tonnes of space.
It's actually very interesting the similarities between Tigers and St George since 2010/2011, both teams arguably being the best sides of those seasons and both falling away badly from 2012, despite some good young talent coming through. St George have only made the finals twice since 2011 (8th in 2015 and 7th in 2018) and only won 1 finals game since (and including) 2011.
