Are teams trying to drop the kicks on the try line? Wouldn’t it be better to have it land in their 10 so they can’t just have a foot over the line, caught in goal for a 7 tackle set?

The ideal kick should be a meter or two inside the field of play. Not on the try line. However, a kick is only as good as the chasers coming through.

Yeah that’s what I mean, we out here whinging because the kicks are landing in the opposition 10? Not on the try line? Doesn’t make sense.

All this brooks bagging is a joke. If your going to bag Brooks you need to bag Benjis record as well. Apart from 2005 which we wouldn't of won the comp without Prince and Hodgson. Benji didn t much as well.

Hello, Benji's flick pass wasn't worth a bean without Richards.

This thread interests me only because I wonder if anyone legitimately believes Jock Madden is an alternative to Brooks. From what I've seen of Madden, the answer is no.

After Madden there is nobody else close to being NRL standard, not unless we run out some cobbled halves pairing like Moses and Doueihi.

I'm all for giving Madden a run and, hell, why not drop Brooks and see what happens with an alternative strategy? Madge can do it and I won't be upset - most fans would cop it.

Buy my head and heart both tell me that Brooks' replacement would just get mauled, worse than Brooks. Until we sign a legitimate replacement, or some kid from the juniors gets old enough and good enough, Brooks it is... kind of pointless banging on about it every week.

Out of curiosity, do you see Brooks as the halfback who can lead us to top 4 in the next 2 years? Or even top 8? What % would you give?

I know it's not all up to the halfback and yeh Madden might not be ready yet but I think we should tell Brooks he's free to look elsewhere so we can start planning without him. You're saying there isn't a succession plan which is fair but we can't make that plan without him. We can't speak to Reynolds with Brooks on the books.

You're going to pay him for the next three years to play for someone else?

Yea Moses didn’t do that once . It was Mahoney from memory, amd Gutho.
People say parra killed us , I have to disagree . Their first try , which really killed all the momentum we had , had a guy run behind 3 of his players , which is bull crap . It doesn’t matter if the defensive line was impeached , it’s a god damn shepherd . Like the type your grandpa showed you not to do as a kid .

You know what though, if our players pushed up more aggressively it would have compelled the ref to call a shepherd. Standing back passively and sticking your arms out does nothing. It's that same passive defence that allowed Parra to run in 5 tries from 5 repeat sets, to more or less win the game by the 60th minute.

Tigers staged a good comeback, but that was only assisted by Slimy Fart's bad goal kicking.

True, if only Tamou or liddle pushed one of the Parra players out of the way or into Moses, ironically though the same thing happened in the roosters game and it got called differently.
The gulf between us and the top teams is really only attitude. Watching last nights game, both teams were making every post a winner putting it all on the line from the kick off. We seem to be trying to keep our energy to stay in the game. If we played with a higher tempo we would put on more points and make the opposition tire out in the second half so I’m not really convinced our current strategy is the effective one at the moment. In saying that we are fighting to get an edge just not in the right areas.

Sorry really didn’t need to go in the Brooks thread

It did in way.

Last nights game - have a look at Townsends kicks on the 5th. All but two went to Tupou.

Great plan.....how good did that work out.

Take Brooks kicks myself.

Spot on Mate.

You want them catching the ball right on the try line (or just in front of it) so you can either push them in goal or if you catch it just fall over and score. There's no attacking threat when you kick the ball 10 metres out unless you catch it and pass which is difficult.

Cleary places almost every kick right on the perfect spot where defenders are forced to make a catch but get forced back, we drop them on the 10 and either catch it and nothing happens or they catch it and go to ground and it's a turnover

Brooks placed one perfect last week and we scored off it through Luc and Laurie. Did one the week before and Doueihi scored off it. It's easy to see how effective that chip/bomb to that spot is, just needs to do it more. Too many times we just handed the footy over on last tackle

Did he engage the line once today other then his useless hitups.

Meant to go to the line then pass out the back, or dummy and run.

His mind is made up when he recieves the ball whether he will be a shovel or a forward

Please go Brooks in the best interest for all parties

Have to agree. Certainly has shown to date little to no ability to think on his feet and make snap plays according to what is in front of him.

I have been a supporter of Brooks and hoped that things would improve with a better showing.

I am officially saying sorry to those i have had a shot at in the last few weeks, saying give him a go.

He has to be dropped, and i couldnt care less who wears the 7. But he is done in my eyes. A failure. If todays tribute couldnt motivate him, then nothing will. The forwards yet again supported him with nothing, but i never saw an inkling of anything remotely resembling having a go or managing anything. So get rid of him next week.

Until the final screw up I didn’t think he was bad today

If stinky boy can't excel against the understrength Cowgirls at LO on a Sunday afternoon then his remaining fanboys are going to have a very long wait. Time to retire the player rather than the jersey.

People who think he's ok need to watch other NRL teams.

I think the opposite. People who hate him so much need to watch the NRL and see how poor halves are today.

I can't see him ever being a great player though. He should be a cheap half that does the job while you try and get the next big star.

Though he was one of the better players for us today. Surprised on the comments here. Shocking short kick but at least he tried something, set up a couple of tries and line breaks, kicked fairly well and the defensive gaps were on his side they were Douehi, Jet,Nofa where teams are always running.

Yes I agree he should be a cheap player. If he was just a full in because the rest of the park was filled with talented players taking up the cap that would be ok. Reynolds, cherry Evans, Hughes, Williams... Just watch a few of their matches.
