Luke Brooks

He looks so lost and way out of form. A couple of decent kicks but in the opposition 20 he has no idea. I think I can count on one hand the amount of times he passed it to his centres.

AD was a bit of a hog as well but we looked much better with him on the ball.

3 repeat sets today kept the pressure on the Dragons...hope that continues..

Seriously what do we do with him. Defence is one of the best in the team. A couple of kicks today were spot on, some weren’t. His attacking options and performance is just very ordinary most of the time. He looks like he has lost speed, but that may just be the way he is playing. I would really like him to come good but what do you do.

I guess he has until the end of the year to turn it around and put in some good performances.

Hastings will be 7 and Brooks at 14. He can fill in at half (if we are desperate) and hooker.

Brooks would be a terrible 14.
Huge pass on that.

Either way I think Hastings will be playing at 7 unless something drastically changes with Brooks' game. I cant see any other spot than 14 for him

I’d give madden a shot first and put Hastings at 13
Brooks can go to seek.com if he don’t improve

There were times today when I thought "bugger it, chuck Madden in" but I have to say, without Brooks today, Im not sure if we lose but there is no way we hold Dragons to 8.

My recollections of his contribution: Starting with three perfect bombs on the try line, one bearing a try, another disallowed and Joey couldn't hold the third. Backed up the early Cini break in case he could offload.

A couple of repeat sets, maybe more and apart from his first 5th tackle kick under huge pressure where he still got 30 plus metres, pretty well nailed them in the corner when within range.

An early poor low pass on the right and after opening it up for Doueihi out the back he backed up and scores if Garner offloads.
Lacking time after waiting at dummy half for the next play before Simpkin arrived, Luke probably should have grubbered when the defence was up on his outside and nobody pushing up inside, plus he had a poor miss on Hunt.

Made some big tackles as well, especially on that big backrower, resulting in at least one turnover and got back to the ingoal to defuse a kick.

No doubt other stuff that I cannot recall, but he controlled that game pretty well.

If you think that , then you’re the one who’s lost . Our whole attack flowed because he engaged the line early , and AD didn’t drift ast much . Also I noticed Garner and Luci ran excellent lines all day , which meant the defence had to close in , as the threat of them busting the line , is extremely high . He called every play , just about , and moved the ball to exactly where it needed to be .
We execute 50% better and we put 30 on them . And that’s what the top teams do . There are no half chances with them . They get a sniff of blood and they ran that knife home .

a lot
I guess he has until the end of the year to turn it around and put in some good performances.

I was at the game , and he engaged the line early , and gave the ball to AD/ Laurie a lot . This in turn allowed early ball for the backs which lead to a lot of full chances / half chances . He pushed up around the ball , and must have ready for second chances at least half a dozen times .
He controlled the general play , tackled hard .
This is exactly what you want from your half . In fact by being the first option so many times , it forced the defence to jump out at him , which in turn created far more time for AD down the right.

Good summary IMO.

I have long been a Brooks defender, but I have to acknowledge there are times where our attack looks so clunky and rudderless and Brooks is at the heart of that. On the other side of the coin we fought out a hard gritty win on the back of sensible low frills footy and Brooks was also in the thick of that. His defense was unbelievable today.

There was a moment late in the game where Brooks physically grabbed the Captain, James Tamou, a bloke a foot bigger than him by the jersey and physically pushed him into position for the next play.

He is not performing in clutch moments but a lot of the things he should be doing he is actually doing. Its a worrying work in progress and Im not sure why its happening now so late in his journey.

I just want him to stretch the opp D inside their 20...he just has never done it. Ennis and even Voss, who rarely criticises, repeatedly pointed it out today.

Laurie linked and created overlaps...AD took the line on and looked dangerous...

Brooksy just never does and all the stats back up his lack of creativity in the opp 20. He actually looks way better from broken field stuff 40-60 meters out.

Because he’s first receiver . Unless you’re hitting the under ball , it’s about engaging the line to create shape for your outside men .

The strong team's first receivers create way, way more...that is not a legitimate reason IMO.

Good summary, also I was surprised how many poor passes he got from Simpkin today. Im a Simpkin convert but today wasnt his finest.

He still looks like little Bo-Peep most of the time in attack ..
Glad I’m not the coach ?

Wish I was the coach .....Luke ...this is Ben ..I think you will like him

Luke Brooks is a solid player but he’s not an organising halfback. I think we have all seen enough he can’t orchestrate an attack. Some good kicks, runs but overall organisation is poor. There is no plan to out sets.

He’s a running 5/8 clearly. I think we have to increase Douihei time at first receiver he’s the halfback in this team. Ima Brooks fan but Hastings is a better half back for us when he gets here.

Brooks may well replace Mbye as a 14 if he is moved on.

No , most teams play either side of the ruck . That’s not how we play .

Agree with that I'm a Simpkin fan but his passing was not good today

How would LB go in Knock On cup? I think he’d struggle, the change of being a plodder in FG would be too much for him ...

He was better today but I wouldn’t let him off the hook just yet.
Zini makes a break, can’t offload to Brooks because he got in front, instead of Brooks getting in dummy half and passing to an outside man he runs infield and gets ready for 4th 5th play.
Couldn’t believe it.
