Luke Laulilii #290

Fuller and Grey are both small (obviously) but they’re very quick - which gives them at least something ,
You just can’t be small and slow.

also both fullbacks,
which is chalk and cheese to the wing position
Brian Toa is 5 foot 3 but with his fat headgear he is 5 foot 5. 🍷 🍷🍷🤪🤪🤪

He’s not quite 5’3 - but I get your take.

I would say,
you have to go back 20 years to find another winger of his build that was successful. And both played in the best teams of that time…

There’s been 2 in 20 years that made something of it in a team full of stars.

In the hundreds of wingers since then to play more than, say, 50 games
- how many were short and slow?

Hiding one swallow in a stacked team don’t make it spring.

Luke Laulilii Signs With Perth Bears

The Perth Bears have capped off a monumental week for the club by securing the services of exciting outside back prospect Luke Laulilii.

Laulilii has signed for two seasons. He is now the 13th player to commit to the Perth Bears for their inaugural 2027 season.

The versatile outside back debuted for the Wests Tigers in 2024 and has scored four tries across nine First Grade games.

Laulilli captained the Tigers’ Harold Matthews Cup team in 2023.

At just 19, he is the Bears’ youngest recruit to date.

“The Perth Bears provide an opportunity for me to continue to develop my game and take it to the next level,” Laulilii said.

“I’m excited about the prospect of playing in front of the fans in Perth.

“I know how much they love their sport and it’s a privilege to be a part of a rugby league team that represents the people of Western Australia.”

Fresh from unveiling the club logo earlier this week to overwhelming fan support, today’s announcement continues the Bears’ strong recruitment drive in 2026.

Laulilli is the sixth player to be announced this year and will provide head coach Mal Meninga more versatility in the backline.

“Luke is a very talented and athletic outside back who will provide us plenty of options,” Meninga said.

“He is a fantastic finisher and strong defender. I’m sure he will continue to develop this season and look forward to welcoming him and his family over to WA.”

Perth Bears General Manager of Football David Sharpe said Laulilli was an exciting addition to the Bears roster for their debut season.

“Luke is an exciting prospect, and we are very happy to have secured him for the next two seasons,” he said.

“We remain very active in the recruitment space and I’m confident we will have some further announcements in the coming weeks.”

Shame, always really liked Luke and he looked very good in his few games in first grade. Obviously a bit of a depth crunch with Turuva, Skelton, Makasini all in front of him so makes sense from him to go somewhere else.

Hope he goes well (except when he plays against us), wish him all the best.
