Think this is worth a listen.
https://youtu.be/fwL3Pl3JjLs

Just listening to that. Agree completely.

Problem is I’m not confident he’s getting the say he should around player signings. Probably due to the mess Ivan created.

Yep, can't stand Kent but he's got this right. The irony is yesterday they were playing to celebrate the career of one of the toughest players you'd ever see and they showed none of the guts he showed week in and week out. In my opinion they are 5 imported players away from winning games on a regular basis and I can't see where they are going to come from.

Whilst I agree the players are not superstars, Madge can't attract the players we need, he has a really bad reputation, and that is a huge hurdle that we can't overcome, I still say sack him

That's just a garbage myth that gets recycled endlessly. He has a great reputation with players, and players who previously knew him from outside the Tigers have willingly re-joined him here. Adam D, Zane Musgrove are two off the top of my head, but there's more.

I am sorry but I could not disagree more, we have not been able to land one in demand player, or even one player with a couple of clubs chasing him since Madge arrived, it is no coincidence
Latrell, JAC, Burton, Arrow, Capewell, there are more, hell even DWZ

DWZ chose Dean Pay over Madge.

Chose $$ over Madge which was a terrible decision let’s remember the club 90 percent of the time have now refused to pay overs for players which should put us in good shape starting from next year one good thing the club are doing

Everyone said we'd be in good shape for this year. Now it's next year. Early next year we'll be talking about 2023.

It came down to money.

Latrell just recently bought his parents a home for 1.8mill - I think he has been looked after very well at South's.

Must be mortgaged to the hilt 😂

I’d say a back ended deal from Romper stomper

Yeh and a quote and unquote ability to be straight with players and tell them how it is. And also a good reputation with recruiting seeing that he maintained the same roster he inherited and continued to make the 8 with the sharks.
Oh and the defence. The players mustn’t have been putting in last year because the sharks were known for their woeful defence.

Sorry I can't seem to respond the usual way @clontarfkid.

I'm not excusing their performances at all but looking at it from another perspective - the constraints and challenges Madge and the team are (or have been) up against. The reasons why we haven't been able to effectively achieve certain objectives as a team etc.,
There's too much attention being given to player's measurables and not enough to their ability. So I'm simply redirecting some focus on our performances and speculating on why we're shooting ourselves in the foot.
I care more about the value of what someone can bring to the team and how we get it out of them, than their worth TBF.

No-one is saying they particularly care about a players "worth" until theres a significant disconnect between what theyre paid and what EFFORT their putting in...Packer and MYbe are the best examples of that..despite earning a fortune theyre just coasting at WTs which really irks me as they then set a standard, and "permission"for others to follow their example.
Tamou(disappointingly) is not far behind..about 3 play the balls behind usually!!But if he galvanised and motivated the team as a true
leader/quasi on field coach which we thought we purchased I wldnt care
NOfa post contract signing is another bludger asleep at the wheel ..and we all saw BJs efforts earlier in the year(tho is now making an effort)
Joffa coasting too..nothing like the SOO rep we thought we snared
Brooks not quite the smarts to know whether hes not trying or thats simply all hes got....Hastings cant come soon enuff
But my issue is more profound..there are TOO MANY WTs players who decide to put minimal effort in during large slabs of the game, quite often at the start..and dont really care about the consequences for their teamates, the coach, the fans and their own personal pride. We just dont stress over the results..its simply..wheres my cheque!
Madge can (and does)give em a wakeup call at half time, which maybe gets response for a while, but our senior players often continue to set a bad precedent(some of whom weve just re-signed)re care factor
Unless Madge identifies them and transforms their attitude and/or swap em out they'll take him down and soon.. hes well on his way coaching a team from 9th to 15th place
Hastings will help..dont like signing old forwards but maybe Funicane is worth 2 yrs because of his leadership?Gotta be others
Change this lazy culture
Wld love to give Nofa and a few otheres a wakeup call in CC but as weve seen from Cini...there aint much there
We possibly have 2 quality reserve grade sides...?
Simply need an 110% committment from all out on the field

It’s so frustrating that we don’t know what the issue is with our team.. is it because we have so many rookies in a team, is it madge? Are we being over trained weekly? Someone else mentioned the other day that they had never seen a team warm up for so long.

Maybe we can take a step before thinking about axing the coach. What about a football director? Someone or Phil Gould’s mould. If not I wouldn’t mind John Morris in some role between the coach and Madge.

My only issue with Madge is he seems very old school and doesn’t look like the guy who likes having help around, kinda wants to do everything by himself. Hence the nobody’s coaching and training our team behind the doors.

Just hope this shit is sorted soon. Because we should be looking for players before August and for next season. Plus retention

There is only one coach that can do the job outside of Maguire and that’s Shane Flanagan.
The roster needs to be culled. No one will go any good changing coaches is pointless.

The team is B grade

I don’t know about the squad look how many players Payten has turned around, coaching definitely a factor.

Payten can coach but being honest they have way more talent than us Holmes, Taumololo, Drinkwater, Feldt, Molo, Fidow, Hess etc.

Payten and Morris bring with them the gift of being very good communicators and player managers. The best coaches always had these qualities. I don't believe it a coincidence both were coached by WTs greatest coach, Tim Sheens. We need Morris and the playing group need him to pull it together and get the best from what I believe is a reasonable squad. Maguire cannot do it.

Morris took over at a very difficult time at the Sharks and did well.

I believe Kent and co were off base about the players not wanting to put the work in at WTs. Allegedly Sam Burgess and Adam Reynolds were two players who did not enjoy Maguire at Souths. Would anyone care to suggest these two players are shirkers not prepared to work? So what is it with Maguire that players do not like?

I don’t think your understanding much of what I’m saying. I’m not saying Morris isn’t a good coach. I’m saying it was reflective in his coaching that there was a bad attitude to defence, even with more senior players scattered throughout the squad last year and an entire 2nd tier side that was blooded together in first grade.

The current scenario is not unlike our own.
I’m prepared to say it’s not the coaches methods, it’s not the players efforts, it’s time for the young to get match fitness and for the group to gell that is needed.

We would be in the same position with Morris maybe the only advantage to having a younger coach would be that he has more chance of a longer term career. Though I’m pretty sure Madge isn’t even 50 yet. So there’s plenty of time ahead of him yet.

Why can't Morris just join as assistant coach, attacking coach, etc?

God knows we need some help....

Two final 8 appearances after picking up the remains of the Sharks' carcass. Anyway you look at it, his effort was impressive.

Morris inherited a squad instilled with toughness by a coach that few of our blokes would have lasted a minute. Our blokes "walk on eggshells" for fear of being dropped when they are losing!
