Madge Maguire - Mega Thread

The problems with the Wests Tigers has been around since 2000.

This predates Madge.

BE HONEST - The One Successful year in 2005 was an aberration.

Madge is breaking apart the culture of this club that has seen us recruit softies who fall apart.

If the younger players are indeed spelled this week then I believe he is taking away all the excuses of the senior players.

I am firmly in the Madge Maguire corner, I am sick of my club being the easy beats over the last 10 years

Wests Tigers rearrange spine

Wests Tigers coach Michael Maguire is set to shake up his side for Friday night’s match against Newcastle by shifting Adam Doueihi from five-eighth to centre and partnering Moses Mbye in the halves with Luke Brooks.

Mbye has played fullback, centre and as a bench utility so far this season but may now be set to wear the No.6 jersey on an ongoing basis after Maguire’s decision to move Doueihi from the five-eighth role.

The Lebanon international had not played five-eighth at NRL level before this season but Maguire believed he could be a long-term option in the role after recruiting fullback Daine Laurie from Penrith.

With Laurie and hooker Jake Simpkin having few NRL games under their belts and Wests Tigers struggling for wins as they form new combinations, it is believed Maguire wants to add more experience to the Tigers’ spine.

Hooker Jacob Liddle also returns this week and is expected to start ahead of Simpkin.

Have no idea why I can't respond directly @clontarfkid.
Sorry it’s not that I didn’t understand what you meant and I do respect your opinion. My remarks about not caring about the worth of contracts was said in connection to our performance problems. I totally get where you’re coming from but taking other facts in hand – that two mentioned players were Ivan’s signings, we’ve a different coach and recruitment officer since then - I basically didn’t wish to get side-tracked by something that makes no difference to it. But I concur we lack, and have often lacked, appropriate team leaders.

The basis of my original post was the fact we are a new playing group is more indicative to why we are unable to complete or achieve certain tasks as a team. Some require further experience and time to develop on such as team cohesion, combination plays or defensive techniques or structures.
Doueihi and Laurie have been exemplary in most regards.
In addition to recruited players, we have three players (including two playmakers) that have played less than 10 NRL games which is another considerable factor, seeing as they've limited game knowledge and awareness at this level.
So it wasn’t to make excuses but apply a more reasonable outlook on why the team are incapable of performing consistently at a high standard, given the surrounding talk about the team’s mental toughness.

I agree it's been a part of our culture, and for far too long at that..
And the club deserves to have the spotlight on it for not resolving this, but I can't agree that all our current playing group have earned the label of being called soft. We’ve got some great competitors in the team.
I especially care about the welfare of our younger players tbh and actually don't wish for this to harm their confidence or career(image) in any way.
The one thing this also potentially does, is continue to feed the narrative that we've still got issues between the coach and players. (Which I thought all claims have already been refuted)

Absolutely correct. The place needs re-engineering and that’s exactly what Madge is doing.

If Doueihi is moved from 5/8 to centre as reported, that is the final straw for madge with me.

Wait till the team takes to the field they will swap around. Also Doueihi and Laurie I'm nit sure if they in their best position Doueihi I see as a possible lock and Laurie as a 5/8 at FB he'll be always targeted under the high ball and in attack he need to be close to the ball like Laui at Pamfers

Stef has been dropped? I’d be dropping tamou before him!! Wonder if that means packer is playing or if it will be amone will get a crack ?

But but but Tamou was a great signing ??

I can't believe those suggested selections. It appears that the young blokes are forced to pay the price for the pathetic performances of the big names.

Respectfully Disagree...

Under Cleary, Taylor, Potter and for a large part under Sheens, Lamb and Pearce... This was the case also.

**This issue is systemic in all but a few years**.

This issue is with club and Madge is the Hard nosed leader that we Fans need.

The Tigers need to train hard and fight hard.

OP has been released from purgatory just in time to see AD moved to the centres and replaced with Mbye.

Could be up for another stint.

thought it was kinda funny that i got a spell, apart from publicly rubbishing the coach i didnt swear or carry on as was suggested

I’m a Madge fan but seriously Mbye and Brooks in the team is questionable where’s the accountability. Surely Madden comes in for Brooks and Talau in the centre’s.

I understand we are down outside backs so there is some merit but geez our halves are questionable. Hoping Madge is starting Madden with Mbye as 14 to only come on for injury.
