Each to their own opinion, but I could not disagree more strongly with this point, he has had more than enough time to at least get the team to show some form of improvement, he has failed.
Keeping on blaming Cleary 3 seasons later is a cop out, and Madge and his excuses are a cop out as well.
You want to give him a medal, I want to give a one way ticket out of here, that is the beauty of opinions
I'm not usually in the fence but I am in this one.
I can see both sides of the argument.
**Maguire has lost the dressing room** but should we sack the coach or sack the senior playing roster who are sooking.
Guys like Moses, Brooks, Nofo and others have been here longer than the coach so I'd allot a little more blame to them before sacking the coach.
But a new coach may want to feature those players in his rebuild.
It's a messy situation and all parties are to blame.
Who has said he has lost the dressing room? A couple of people on here.
Last week, they were saying Kevin Walters had lost the dressing room?
Haven't heard any players mention anything? No doubt, we are in a hole, but we are not a top 6 side yet? I don't think anyone thought we would compete in the last 4 games?
I believe we will get there and it is certainly taking longer than we all want, but imo, the club has to let him finish his rebuild. He has the experience we need, remembering we have been trying to do it for 10 years, it is not as easy as we all thought?
I'm saying it. He has lost the dressing room.
Players are not responding.
I'm no fan boy of the senior playing group. Most of them are imposters but right or wrong the coach has lost them.
Plain to see.
Sorry, but you’re guessing. But there are some players not playing to potential for sure.
What information do you have to support your claim that he is guessing?
None, but that’s the point, I know you have mentioned it, but no one else has, in fact they rallied in the second half of the Souths game, hardly an indication he has lost the shed. There is no proof of your assertions what so ever.
Take your blinkers off and you may see things, instead of being one eyed and negative.
We scored points in the second half because south’s clocked off. It is very obvious he’s lost the playing group.
How do you know this, you blokes just make things up to suit your story. If the team didn’t want to play, we wouldn’t have scored any points.
Not at all, I’m looking at it rationally. I actually think he lost he playing group midway through last season, and I think it’s gotten worse since then.
It’s a toxic environment with no harmony at all. Your issue is you have wanted him to succeed so badly from the beginning you simply cannot deal with the fact that he’s failed.
It’s the players that have failed, casting aspersions doesn’t make it true.
Who has said beside some of you, that Madge has lost the sheds? Not even the journo’s sprout that rubbish.
This was literally in tonight’s article by Chammas
“The news comes as multiple sources at the club told the Herald there was growing discontent among the players about Maguire, which has been exacerbated by the coach’s post-match comments following the loss to South Sydney.“
“Growing discontent” and “multiple sources” I wonder who they are? You are drawing a long bow to say “he’s lost the shed”, I said earlier, they said about Kevin Walters last week.
You talk about me wearing blinkers, you're sitting there with your eyes closed and fingers in your ears.
Well, attacking me, doesn't make you right, you have nothing to back up your claim, except a jouno saying there is "growing discontent", Made had just said he was wanting men in his team, that would certainly upset some of the non performers.
Nofo being a tool and throwing team mates under the bus doesn't help either.
BTW, Chammas co-authored the article, I understand he has a known dislike for Madge.
The comment Maguire made is not appropriate in the workplace.
I disagree. You've never been inside a dressing shed, have you?
The dressing shed is a workplace. That comment was made publicly.
Strange type of workplace, with cameras and media hanging around. Anyone film you at your workplace?
Last time Madge had a go at the players, in the "privacy" of the dressing shed workplace, they filmed it and put it on TV. Then talked about it for days and days.
Also, I think for Madge it's just an alternate strategy. He has resisted criticising the players all year. They've been rubbish all year, they deserve criticism. He didn't name anyone specifically.
They are professional footballers. If they cannot handle internal and external criticism then they are in the wrong business. NRL is not a standard workplace - most workplaces don't get filmed, don't ask employees to make public comments on a weekly basis. Most employees don't have their personal effects in the media. Most employees don't have external parties critiquing their performances.
So if the coach calls the team out, justifiably, and that's something you can't handle, then you need to reconsider a career as a professional footballer. Because the coach is going to be softer on you, more understanding, more collaborative and constructive than any other external party, of which there are very many.
Maguire needs to be a lot more careful about what he says and where he says it.
Why Paws ? because you want him gone to suit your personal agenda...funny how he can say nice things about his squad when they are learning and not doing well but cant critique them when they fail him ...
WT is a professional organisation. Our image impacts all areas of the business. It's not overly difficult to do.
Get what you're saying Paws and as a fan it's all too overwhelming and frustrating. Why draw any further attention to the team?
This is where the club's previous and **current lazy management** are culpable for how this all plays out. Yes certain members of the playing group are compromising the situation, but this is a club management issue.
It provides further evidence of their ineptitude as it seems the players are culturally conditioned of not taking ownership, so it's another sign of dysfunction and toxicity in which the club are unable to handle it.
So who is reinforcing our supposed organisational values?
Admit I'm not a fan of his coaching, but it appears only Madge is attempting to take control of the situation while the club sits back and watches.
Admit I felt uncomfortable with and thought it was a bit unprofessional when he walked out of the sheds at half time during the Melbourne game, I believe that he owed it to the younger players to be there in support. However, I feel he's entitled to critique the players in any way he sees fit, especially when his reputation is in question.
I think what's most depressing is that the club has been for a fair while - and continues to look like - a runaway train, on every level.
IMO there's a reason why players see it normal to palm off responsibility when our own management are unwilling to get involved and sort it out.
This needs to be addressed regardless of who the coach is, as otherwise it'll just keep happening.
What makes you think that the current management are lazy?
No I specifically said it appears this way, as we've been down this path before. I can see the results of a lot of work that's been done but was only speaking on a cultural level.
Not jumping specifically on you here Lauren but all this faux outrage that Madge said "he is looking for men" is ridiculous. Madge is 1000% correct and if the players are upset about it, or if people around the players are implying there is anything wrong with that, then that is the whole problem.
Lauren, you talk of the issues at the club at a "cultural level". This club is doomed if there is a culture of fear around the words that the coach uses, especially when he is speaking the truth.
NRL would be close to the most violent and tough professional sports in the world. At the elite level is requires incredible skill and toughness to execute difficult skills, implement complex tactical plans all the while during or at the threat of great pain. Defence in particular is a mental mindset to push against natural instincts and many of the current players are simply not up to it.
They HAVE done it in games this year, demonstrating that they are capable, but lately have not had the attitude. This is EXACTLY what Madge is talking about and I'd be amazed if this is the first time the players have heard it.
Thankyou @tiger5150 and I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of the team's overall attitude. You've also pinpointed why this year feels more depressing as a supporter, as it sucks to see only glimpses of a competitive side?
Yeah I don't wish to be controversial and understand the club has been doing a great job in the background - am personally excited about our junior pathways tbh - however I was simply stating that certain responsibilities lie with certain people and if anyone deserves blame for the decade long failures at the club or the poor organisational culture, it's the club.
It's ultimately up to them to maintain standards and drive our (desire for) success.
People may not like it or disagree with it but I don't see signs of an examplary club culture, which was the gist of my comments.
Just out of interest, what are exemplary club culture signs you would like to see? Serious question.
Nofa's 150 th game should never have happened ...well not taht week ...and you don't keep it quiet ......that is culture .....
